Ok, Heading to San Francisco later in the year. Can anyone that's been there give me some info on good places to stay that are kind of right in the city and close to stuff?

Thanks

We stayed at the Handlery, Union Square. http://www.handlery.com/sf/ It was a nice place with very helpful staff. Rooms were on the small side but still clean and adequate. Not far from anything. I hope you have more than 3 days in San Fran. Its the one place I wish we could have spent more time.

Thanks for that info, I will be there for 6 nights i think so far.

The Grand Hyatt San Francisco is nice...I last stayed there in February 2006 and had a great view from the balcony. If you want something a little cheaper and newer, try the Hyatt at Fisherman's Wharf - it was completley overhauled in 2007.

I know where NOT to stay. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway and it was really bad so don't stay there.

Holiday Inn at Fisherman's Wharf is meant to be very good, if you can get a booking!

Although, anything in the Union Square or Fisherman's Wharf area is going to be more expensive then anywhere else. If price isn't an issue, a hotel in these areas would be ideal.

If you thinking of heading over to Six Flags Vallejo I wouldn't bother. We did the 45min - 1 hour trek there and it so wasn't worth it. Mostly because a lot of the rides weren't of interest. I think I spent about 2 hours there in total - Rode Raw, Medusa and V1 a couple of times and that was it. But if you want to experience a Six Flags while your there and your not getting the chance to do anything else theme park wise during your vacation then I guess it would be a pretty good idea to go.

Have fun! San Fran is one of my favorite cities to visit!!

Yeah I stayed at the Fisherman's Wharf Holiday Inn on my first visit and it was quite nice. I find Fisherman's Wharf gets a bit tacky after a while so I think whether you want to stay in the area or not depends on how touristy you want to make your stay. Last time I was there I stayed at the Marriott in Downtown which was more a business hotel given its proximity to the convention centre but this was our reason for being in town so worked quite well, and was still only a few blocks from the middle of town.

Next time I'd definitely go for something in the Union Square area. San Francisco is quite a small city that is quite easy to get around on foot and has very good public transport.

Yeah i have been looking at hotels in Union Square, They seem to be ok for price. Not interested in Six flags or any other park while over there this time.

Thanks for all the info.

But DW is 45 mins to an hour from Brisbane. If DW were to build a Medusa sized floorless, would DW not be worth visiting?

Sorry, but I think you're crazy to pass up the opportunity. tongue.gif At the end of the day, it's the chance to get a quick thrill fix for around the same money as a DW admission (less if you can get a promotional deal).

You should definitely go to Alcatraz though, awesome place. And the Chinatown is one of the best I've been to in the US.

Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair and don't leave your heart there.

Like I said if they don't have the chance to do any other theme parks while they're there then go to Vallejo. But if you have done some theme parks, all I was saying was there is plenty more to do and see in San Fran itself then go out to Vallejo.
