Orphan Rocker
Open Date: unknown
Current Status: Under Construction
The ride begins with a station situated next to the Scenic Railway station. A plunge straight out of the station into a series of bends and dips hidden among a thick rainforest brings the riders to the most exciting point of the ride - a wide banked curve right at the edge of a 200m cliff.
Orphan Rocker is the first roller coaster to be designed and built in Australia. Consequently, it perhaps holds the record for the longest ongoing construction period, which has been underway for around 20 years.
Construction commenced in 1984.
To compensate for a difficulty to accurately calculate banking on curves during the design period, the trains were designed to tilt around the curves, where banking is set to a fixed 60º. This is the first "suspended sitdown" coaster in the world.
