It seems every six months or so news surfaces of another attraction destined for Dreamworld that wouldn't find its way into any normal single-price theme park. The reason why is not difficult; by boosting per-capita spending -- the average amount each guests spends in the park -- they can increase profits without having to go to the more costly expense of attracting new clientele. But there's surely a better solution than that.
In a move that isn't without precedent, Macquarie Leisure Trust Group have once again appointed an theme park industry outsider to the Gold Coast theme parks' top position. Former operating officer of New Zealand KFC, Starbucks and Pizza Hut properties will take the position effective immediately, having spent a year with the diverse leisure company as their COO.
For the first quarter of the 2009 financial year, Dreamworld and WhiteWater World have both reported attendance increases against the same period last year. CEO of the past four years Stephen Gregg has decided to step down from December 2008.
With results in following WhiteWater World's first complete financial year operating since opening in December of 2006, the park has exceeded initial estimates for attendance despite wet weather and strong competition.
Despite South East Queensland's first truly wet summer in a number of years, Macquarie Leisure's theme parks have performed admirably against the same six month period a year ago.
