Evidently WhiteWater World aren't going to let Wet'n'Wild Water World take all the thunder of Australia's first looping water slide, with reports suggesting that they may indeed have their own plans for a competing attraction.
In addition to the now annual price hikes seen across Gold Coast theme parks, Ardent Leisure, owners of Dreamworld and WhiteWater World are set to introduced a new scheme that sees normal ticket prices vary based on the time of visit.
Dreamworld's results for the 2009 financial year report reduced attendance and profits. WhiteWater World reports increased attendance but reduced overall profits.
It seems every six months or so news surfaces of another attraction destined for Dreamworld that wouldn't find its way into any normal single-price theme park. The reason why is not difficult; by boosting per-capita spending -- the average amount each guests spends in the park -- they can increase profits without having to go to the more costly expense of attracting new clientele. But there's surely a better solution than that.
In a move that isn't without precedent, Macquarie Leisure Trust Group have once again appointed an theme park industry outsider to the Gold Coast theme parks' top position. Former operating officer of New Zealand KFC, Starbucks and Pizza Hut properties will take the position effective immediately, having spent a year with the diverse leisure company as their COO.
