Sea World, September 2011

By Richard Wilson September 29, 2011

A few weeks ago Parkz headed out to Sea World to look at Nickelodeon's new home on the Gold Coast and to give the scene of the new Jet Stunt Extreme show a once-over.

A photo of the school of fish that congregates around a certain well known food dispenser means only only one thing...We're at Sea World!

But we'll head back to front gate...Somebody needs to figure out how to turn the menus off on the TVs.

"It is a condition of entry that you must stand in the path of traffic to read these terms and conditions". (Note: The sign was actually chained the the bollard in this location, so it was not moved there by accident)

What a rebel.

Jet Stunt Extreme

Jet Stunt Extreme was undergoing preparations for its school holidays launch.

More airtime than Superman Escape?

The best part is the cardboard cutout backdrops on the island are gone.

With Pirates Unleashed gone, the Endeavour has been shifted over to the reach of the lake near Sea Viper. We do wish it was back where it used to be, so guests could go onboard as they did in the past.

Upcharges

This is possibly the first time we've seen people out on the lake in the boats.

"I need a dollar, dollar, dollar is what I need, (hey hey)."

In another first, the games were open late in the afternoon.

Around half an hour later....You do notice how people seem to be driven from the area simply because it's lifeless when the games are shuttered.

General Works

Just how much maintenance could you possibly do on a simple little Heege tower?

Hopefully we'll see some work on this site soon.....If it were more of a construction site, guests would perhaps be less disappointed at a very visible attraction being there, but unridable.

Jet Rescue is due for maintenance soon. You can see just what that G-force turn causes the wheels to do the paintwork.

Main Gift Shop

In other news, the gift shop at the park exit has reopened from its makeover.

Like recent shop renovations at the park, they've themed it a bit.

Shark cage themed changerooms.

Bleeerrrrghhh!

At $119.95, is this the most expensive piece of merchandise on sale at any of the parks? If you can find something more expensive, post a pic!

And now we can escape to the outside world. The removal of the old rotary turnstile is truly an end of an era for the thousands of toddlers who visited the park, thinking it was one last ride.

The shop was an extension out towards the car park, but you'd never know it. The bricks and tiles used match perfectly with the existing building, so looks like it has been with the park since the beggining.

That wraps up this edition of the Parkz update. Theres plenty going on across the theme parks in South East Queensland, so be sure to stay tuned.

Nice little update. I havent visited SW since 2001 (havent really been persuaded with their lack of new rides) but since me and my brother got VRTP 1 year passes last month we'll probably go check it out and take our little cousin since she will enjoy it more than us.

If you haven't been on Jet Rescue that one is definitley worth a trip down for.

The Battle Boats are pretty fun too, but be warned, they get you ridiculously wet.

As for the more expensive merch, what about all the movie merch at movieworld. that can be upwards of $250 iirc
