The proposed tourist attraction is described on the NT Government website as a world class tourist attraction and a key employment and liveability opportunity for Darwin.

Government is offering a parcel of land at the Stokes Hill Wharf area as a site for the water park development, which they expect to be in excess of $50 million.

The Darwin water park is just the latest in a long list of proposed major water parks around Australia that in recent years has included locations such as Cairns, Hervey Bay and the Sunshine Coast.

Expressions of interest will be accepted until 22 August 2018 with a preferred developer selected in early 2019.

Construction on the Darwin water park is expected to commence in late 2019 or 2020.
