  2. They’d probably do a lot better closing at 8pm if there was a direct bus back to Broadbeach after close
  3. The cost of staffing the park and the operating costs of running rides (energy/cycles/etc.) is almost always going to be greater than the additional money visitors spend in the park in those final two hours. They already opened the restaurant on Saturday nights from 5-9pm. If the goal is to get people to eat dinner and spend money, then they just need to open the restaurant, not the entire park. Parks know when and where people are spending money. If it were profitable to extend operating hours, they would.
  4. I still have the trauma from the goo... it's everywhere haha
  5. Yesterday
  6. I feel like shutting at 6pm during holidays is missing out. Kinda like "thanks for enjoying the park, time to eat dinner but not here". Extending to 8pm is good.
  7. Dreamworld and WhiteWater World will extending its operating hours this Summer. - From December 27 to 30, Dreamworld will be open from 9:30am to 8pm and WhiteWater World will be open from 9:30am to 6:30pm. - December 31 both parks will be open 9:30am to 6pm. - January 1 both parks will be open 10am to 5pm. - From January 2 to 11, both parks will be open 9:30am to 6pm. - From January 12 both parks will be open 10am to 5pm. https://www.dreamworld.com.au/park-information/park-calendar/
  8. oK No new Cabins but PCEF will be constructing 21 new ECO tents. ECO tent 1 ECO tent 2
  9. Last week
  10. I see you've played scooby doo mystery goo before. 😂
  11. The first thing I was told during my High Zone training "Do NOT touch the handrails" and holy crap they were not wrong. Your hands would look blacker than a chimney sweep within moments. I'd even tell guests during evacuations to avoid holding them and let me guide you haha. It was even worse when the lights came on. Don't even get me started about the smells haha, and as for the purple goo... I blame the concoction of the blue and red frozen cokes and fairy floss for that one lol. As far as the smell goes... it wasn't just guests who might have vomited in that area haha. I know a few staff who were a bit hung over after a xmas party... or other staff party who didn't handle the heat too well haha. So many good memories of that warehouse, and some not so good lol.
  12. I see they have plush's again, but they did have a large park branded Pillowpet last time, and personally, i'd love some proper statues or dioramas.
  13. I like a good pin. MW sell some sets but nothing for SD. Coins are also very collectible. I know some people collect coffee cups but for me, they take up room.
  14. Ohh god yes they did. It's been a long time coming. Multiple instances, some even making the news, due to guest items dropping into working parts of the ride. Some even caused considerable damage. The other thing always was, scooby is filthy. Probably the worst ride in the park. It's a combination of being inside, and when you combine drive tyres wearing, brake material wearing AND GUESTS TIPPING/SPILLING DRINKS AND GOD KNOWS WHAT ELSE (pro tip, its usually vomit. haha), it really made it a nasty place to be. The amount of foul smelling, usually purple (for some reason) goo that would attach itself to you without you realising it was enough to want to scrub yourself clean everytime. Think of scooby like a big St Bernard dog. They brush past you and leave a trail of slobber without you even knowing it. Next minute, its on your clothes, its in your hair, you might even get some of it in your mouth! 😂 🤮
  15. Asking as a question, not being a smart ass. What kind of merchandise would you like to see/suggest?
  16. In this day and age, regardless of how the control system works, there is NO chance of being able to get away with the ride operator leaving the control panel. Just the notion of there not being a person there to respond in the event of an emergency, even if they can't actually do anything other than hit an estop that makes no difference until the train reaches a brake run opens you up to being crucified if another accident happened, especially if it made it to an inquest because of a death. It really brings question to how you operate everything, people start making judgements on if something would have been different if you were at the panel and could respond quicker, even if that's just you being able to generate an e-stop and immediately radio through a code for attendance. The old adage, seconds matter, can actually ring true, plus it also brings in a level of confusion when something actually happens. I've seen people walk right past responders in the event of an incident because they were overwhelmed, so trying to locate someone that by nature is a fluid position (ie, they are moving), it's just another one of those things that can make matters worse. Basically, it's just a slippery slope that nobody wants to die on (argue against) when being put before investigators, so the person in control of the ride is going to stay at the panel. The laws introduced say nothing at all about operations and or how you run a ride. Rightly, they leave that up to the ride manufacturer and trust that the operator (the park) is following their guidelines and knows what they are doing. The accident was just the catalyst to go a bit over the top. Previously, operational procedures basically came from the ride manufacturer and that was largely how things were run. Then, during the mid to late teens, people within management culture thought they knew better, despite none of them actually having any qualifications to support this and started implementing their own controls above the ones specified by the manufacturer. Then it completely snowballs to the point where additional control measures are required above existing devices, and new procedures are invented despite everything being monitored to within tenths of a mm, in addition to which everything has double or triple redundancy. Now its to the point where evacuations are pretty much mandatory any time a safety fault occurs, no matter if its just a protection fault and can be reset fine. Some of the newer procedures put the members of the public at greater risk than trusting the ride control system to be reporting correctly and utilising the judgement of multiple trained/skilled people to make an assessment on the situation and return the train or cars back to the station with people still firmly within their seats. Climbing out of seating or vehicles, walking along catwalks, climbing down ladders, all these things open people up to greater risk of injury than if the ride was still under control. But it is what it is. When you get down to it, there is a lot of contradictory statements/opinions floating around in procedure documents, what's right in one situation is no longer good enough or completely overlooked in another. Ultimately its entirely down to risk avoidance though. If you keep that in mind any time you question why, you start to see it making more sense. Well, maybe sense is a strong word, how about you start to gain some understanding of why things are done the way they are. It's been a progression over the last 10 years. It actually frustrates ride manufacturers because there have been instances where control systems had to be modified or reprogrammed because additions wouldn't function correctly. But it's the village way and nothing is going to change that now.
  17. The park has released (what I think is really good) new merchandise for the ride. https://shop.themeparks.com.au/search?q=scooby+doo&_pos=1&_psq=scooby&_ss=e&_v=1.0
  18. This is Village remember. Wouldn't surprise me if there's a direct order to make things go slowly.
  19. I witnessed someone trying to bring a rollaboard suitcase on the ride once. Ambitious, for sure.
  20. As an ex loader... I've seen people trying to cram all sorts of things into those cars and it's caused delays including the "must send" light going off. I'm all for loose item boxes if it's done properly. One way I could maybe see it working is before going up that little ramp to the load station they might have an area to store loose items in the main room. If they re-route the exit path it could end up going into the second half of the main room maybe. We still have no idea on the final layout of the main queue building and it could easily have been implemented. Only time will tell, but I'm curious about it.
  21. Yes, but all usually dip out by around 2pm, and I did say 'in earnest' I've seen load held up because someone was trying to shove the worlds biggest backpack in front of their feet. We know they have new trains, there may not be the space for baggage that there used to be. As long as the grouper has people lined up at the gates when they open, I think this will actually improve load times. Unload will similarly improve if the loose item boxes are behind a gate - unload can dispatch the cleared train while people are getting their stuff, instead of waiting for the guy with the big backpack to extricate himself from the far seat.
  22. Did they really need to incorporate a loose item system? We didn’t have it before, hoping this doesn’t stuff up operation loading times as this ride is a people eater, this will just slow it down.
  23. My assumption was that a hole in the wall between load and unload would be where the storage box would be slotted into where belongings would stored by people loading and be able to be picked up by people unloading, kind of similar to how JR loose storage works. Fairly unrealistic idea all things considered taking into account how many people could be in load and unload at the same time leading to congestion on both sides of the boxes but nothing else really makes sense.
  24. So how exactly would that work with a separate unload/load station assuming the ride operationally remains the same?
  25. Taken from TPO newest video, looks like new operational procedures are to be in place for SDSC with the mention of Assigned Colours. I haven’t ridden the ride in the past but I take it that storage boxes are a new addition to the station/unload for bags and the like to be placed in?
