  1. Have just got back from Dreamworld after a pleasant morning wandering around the park. Such a different environment without the sound of coasters or Tower running in the background... more like Currumbin. The thing that made a huge impression on us was the incredibly welcoming attitude of everyone working today... genuinely pleased to be open again... the staff were great. I think opening the park this morning without the rides was actually a good idea. The park had the right balance of laughter, solemnity and fun needed to avoid any more bad press and in this, Craig Davidson, Deborah Thomas and the team made a good call (we were able to tell them this as they spent most of the day around the fountain and they were more than pleased to chat with everyone). Dreamworld will recover... the crowds will come back and people will move on.

  3. POP, you do realise an alt is not helping you at all and you're probably better off just giving up? Pretty obvious that it's you now.

  4. Thats great to know that they have got plans to replace it with something, even if it is a couple of years away. I just hope the park installs something new next year, otherwise a couple of years with the storm, jet rescue and kids rides, I personally don't think is a smart idea.

  5. Whether or not you are POP, maybe this isn't the right place for you to be. Parkz is meant to be a positive place to talk about theme parks, not disrespect them like you are. If you are so anti-Dreamworld go join the angry people from the GP who would agree with you and stop wasting our time by reading about every problem you have with the Dreamworld incident.

  7. So Dreamworld have added big fences around TRR to block the view of the ride, they've also popped up here:

  8. In the advent of the news that Vikings revenge is now permanently shut, this then makes the call for Surfrider to be relocated to Seaworld that much more relevant and urgent. This would be a pretty cost effective way of introducing a new ride into a Park that sorely needs it. Lets face it, it certainly has not been a great success at Wet and Wild and it would make far more sense with a new theme and home at Seaworld. I understand that it has had reliability issues but surely these could be worked out for the move to Seaworld? Anyone else think this would be a good move for Seaworld?

  9. Remember everyone, you can click the link below and add whichever Tom, Dick or Harry you want to it: http://www.parkz.com.au/forums/ignore/ As it stands, there are no active members with the names Dick and Harry. Back on topic, thanks for the report @axltk421. I know the staff have all had training on responding to a wide range of guests comments and interaction, but it's good to hear they're so enthused and professional.

  11. I've been to the park many of times, between school holidays starting and Christmas, and every time the park is reasonably quite. It usually isn't until after Boxing Day that the crowds really kick in. That'll be the real test.

  12. Go home your drunk. Why wouldn't Wonder women fit a hyper coaster. She is a pretty powerful superhero

  13. Logically you also wouldn't build a DC themed ride sandwiched between Scooby-Doo and the wild west... at the opposite end of the park to all the other DC rides.

  14. My wife and I visited Dreamworld today and we thought the park looked as good as always. To answer some of the comments that have been made lately. 1. The train was not operating today but is expected to be operational tomorrow. 2. I did not observe any merchandise with the river rapids on it. 3. I thought the crowds were better then expected. Now that the park is open, the tour operators will place this back on their packages. Crowds from overseas will increase. 4. A one day pass is WWW and Dreamworld combined. They will only be checking that young kids entering WWW is accompanied with an adult. 5. Most kids rids were available so Madagascar was there to ride if you need your fix. 6. I noticed that the log ride was fenced off but nothing physically has been altered. In fact the fountain in the middle of the lake is still on even though it is hard to observe. I am hoping the ride is fenced off for now while water rides is a sentive issue, but reopened in the future. If there is no fault with the ride I hope they can develop some sort of restraint to satisfy safety requirements. Overall I still think this is one of the best parks on the Gold Coast and will definitely fill a day once the big rides come on board.

  19. What sort of ride can you buy for the couple million they saved? Anything that you know will be as big a hit as the flume ride? Certainly nothing as big as the flume, probably nothing as family friendly, and certainly not something that's seen as a tradition or right of passage ride at the park. I think they've officially lost the plot out there now. What is their ride collection now? Two coasters that manage to be intimidating enough that they don't work as family rides, but aren't thrilling enough to keep thrill seekers entertained, and a small collection of kiddie rides. The monorail is the only genuine family ride in the park, and that runs slower, and at reduced capacity compared to what it used to. This is very sad for a park that for a long part of it's life ran 4 transport rides, 3 thrill rides, 2 water rides (one of which was also probably the country's best dark rides), a couple kiddie rides and a free water park with 4 totally different types of slides and 2 pools. I'm not against change, seriously I'm not, but whatever changes they're making should make the park better, not worse, and it's clear as crystal that the park is a shadow of it's former self. Just run a white flag up the flagpole out the front of the park and be done with it, although there probably isn't the budget for flags, that flagpole has had nothing on it for a few years now.

  20. @joz remember years ago there was a Holiday event called Carnival or something similar? They brought in a bunch of travelling Carni rides and the whole thing was set up where Shark Bay is today. Still for 10 million they could get 2 decent flats and a mouse to breathe some much needed life? You're not alone on your second point - WnW could definitely benefit with broadening the base theme to add in other attractions that compliment the slides as well as to give the Park more year round appeal

  21. 2019? 3 years away? That's taking the piss. How much damage are you happy to do to your name in the next 3 years? It's desperate enough that they need to hire a couple of traveling rides and set them up for a couple years in the field next to Jet Rescue. Also FWIW I don't think Surfrider is really worth the effort to move, I think it's a good fit at WnW, and rather than move it, I might be alone in this, but I'd like to see that water park line be blurred a little be more to set WnW apart from all the other new water parks popping up.

  23. Don't forget the last time SW announced an attraction 2+ years away...
    1 point
  24. 2019? Is that the earliest ever announcement for a future attraction? The last time SW announced something 2 years in advance we all went Wild for what is, 4 years later, still a vacant plot of reclaimed land...

  26. It's like nixing an upcoming park proposal - a lot of people can see these posts. I know the chance of a new park being developed is remote, but if you keep posting that the funding has fallen through, someone might take you seriously. Same too if you say Dreamworld is going bust. Someone Googles that and finds your thread and believes you know something. A bit like that time @POP said he knew the name of the new coaster. Be careful what you post and be careful what you wish for.

  28. Very pleased to hear SW moving forward to announce plans for a major new attraction, however a 2019 opening is a tad outrageous given how long the Park has had to wait already. I desperately hope there are plans for at least two new flats in the mean time and I'm totally in favour of @Jobe suggestion to bring over WnW's Surf rider at the absolute least. The Wild Wave Galaxy Mouse ride was always a huge hit back in the day.. 1 thrill & 1 family ride are needed as a bare minimum over the next 2 years and can be done inexpensively.

  29. I have always wished that the Surfrider went to SW instead of WnW. Would've been such a smarter decision and is the type of ride SW need, and not just now because they've gotten ride of another ride, but ever since they removed the Pirate Ship.

  31. @SunshineTom interesting how you've picked the logo of the Sea Shepherd as your profile pic. I'm curious, what is your stance is on marine animal based theme parks? Are you a fan of our local one?

  32. THIS IS A JOKE What if Sea World removed theirs and put it on top of Mammoth falls and they dueled? Then we'd get Wet n Wilds new ride, and there would be even more room for Sea World to do nothing with!!!!

  36. May be reading into it too much. It is an old railway line, even when in present operation. Has been there since the park opened, so yes, it's considered old lol. They are vines afterall, so it's possible that they may just have been put up along the track fence somewhere ?

  37. No, the water sources have no linkage whatsoever. I don't see accessibility to RHLR to be an issue even with the connection to Gold Rush closed, if you can access GD you can just as easily access RHLR. Has to be more to it that that I would think
    1 point
  38. Although if you open up a path behind Scooby to Arkham (maybe with a new Villan ride) you could have a proper themed land. Just saying ?

  39. RHLR listed as CLOSED on the Dreamworld website With Vikings and now the Log Ride gone, that leaves WWF as the only true flume left on the Gold Coast, and it and Storm the only water rides. To me, this is a serious problem. Not only has the TRR incident deeply affected the theme park and flume target markets, who knows how long it will be before the public trust the parks enough for a new one to be constructed. This knee-jerk reaction has killed a few quality rides, and I can see it crippling SW (with only two family/thrills left) and possibly DW too. It leaves a big hole in the parks. These were quality family experiences, and they'll be sorely missed.

  40. Same difference. I was going to say precinct but left it as ride given that's what we're talking about here. There's no logical way of justifying DC Super-Villains' location thematically. Makes sense from a rejuvenation and crowd management perspective of course but it hardly sets the standard for strict adherence to themed areas. Nonetheless... the likelihood of a non-DC ride in the main DC area of the park in 2017? Slim-to-none.

  44. Think its about time that they seriously think about relocating Surfrider to Seaworld, as per the original plan. Its compact, and its a great fit for the park as a spiritual succesor to the Pirate Ship.It is also a quick fix to Seaworld's temporary reduction in thrill rides. Make it happen i say!!

  45. It's been a while guys, schoolies got the better of me. About the theming of the coaster, i highly doubt they would name/theme the new coaster towards wonder woman. Im not sexiest or anything (maybe a little ?), but it would just seem a little weird IMO if the biggest and fastest ride at the park is themed towards a female superhero. I mean i wouldn't have an issue if it was themed towards her, but i just dont see it happening. She would suit a family coaster but not Australia's first hyper.
