  1. Hi guys, long time follower, first time poster. Top section of track going in as we speak, by end of day both pieces should be up.

  2. Here's some pics I got as I was leaving the park today (4.15 pm): Won't be riding this until I return next year, gonna be a loooong year.....

  3. The ride is due open at Warner Bros. Movie World in September.....and due to be announced in December.

  4. And the top "A" shaped part to connect those two supports is now being lifted into place. It's nearly as fast as when I build rollercoasters with Knex!

  5. Additional supports are being installed in the centre of the current gap between the two sections of track.

  6. Unfortunately have had to leave literally *just* before the crowning moment of the last track piece, but here's a couple of pics I just took on site! @pushbutton is still there and will post the aftermath I am sure! (Nice to meet you by the way, Andy 😆👍)

  7. Lunch is over and the gap is getting smaller!

  8. I think what the uncouth uneducated moron above me is trying to say is since we've pretty well established that this isn't a launch coaster, the highest point would have to be the lift hill, as gravity needs to power the rest of the way... In other words - there are higher points than this to come.

  9. I really like that photo @Adrian86, not only does it capture the top section going in, but it also really gives you a good perspective of what the coaster is going to look like driving into the park. Can't wait for the rest to go in! Poor GL and Superman will be just a tiny speck on the horizon once this is finished.

  10. Blackpool, Liseberg & Disney have all announced their 2018/2019 projects, meanwhile, nothing from Movie World for the park's single biggest project ever opening in months. I literally can't think of a single major theme park project of this magnitude in recent history having no announcement or teaser this far into construction. Seriously, can anyone actually find a park that has? Because i'd love to eat my words here. I've done probably a quarter hour of research and haven't found anything. As it stands, either VRTP have the greatest launch strategy for this coaster in the history of theme parks, better than anything Disney, Universal, Merlin etc. etc. have ever done, or, they're way off the mark here, and that worries me. It worries me because I want nothing more than for this to be a runaway success for both the park and the company, and from a marketing and PR perspective, having your #1 unofficial source (Parkz) be your guest's primary portal for information is hysterically dangerous. And not because this site is bad, oh contraire, this site is more reliable than any other news source VRTP engages with in terms of getting facts right (7, 9, courier, GCB etc. etc.), the issue is you're not controlling the message, so people who are ZMOT-ing your product are looking at this and not something like this.

  11. In the last 2hrs a support had been installed in between, so I suspect track will be installed in the next couple of hours.

  12. Visited Sea World today for the first time in ages, so thought I'd do a post about it for those interested, since the park hasn't been discussed for a while. Although be warned in advance, there isn't a huge amount to really report. No real visual changes with the Vikings Flume ride as yet, the ride appears to have been sitting stagnant since its closure. Although worth mentioning that the sound of power tools could be heard coming from the roof of the castle earlier this morning, not sure if related or not but would make sense if it was lol: The park was fairly busy for the last day of interstate school holidays, Ray Reef was pulling in quite a modest sized crowd around its first presentation time: Still no real movement happening for the water park either, although some relatively new signage has gone up along the monorail fence: Today was World Penguin Day (well, officially it's Tuesday but the park was celebrating today to avoid Anzac Day conflict) so naturally they had some celebrations happening for the event, including a free prebooked arts & crafts workshop for kids: Plus discounted Penguin merch for today only: (Obligatory penguin photo for World Penguin Day lol): The Gold Coast's one and only Monorail is looking good, if not a bit bare now since all its in-park advertising was stripped off a while ago: The Our World of the Dolphin show is still taking place at the pool near the front of the park, although I decided not to wait around for an hour to see it (maybe next time lol: The Storm Coaster was slow to open this morning, witnessed what appeared to be numerous test cycles focused on the brake runs before it eventually opened to the public around 11am: All in all it was a nice day to visit the park weather wise this morning, despite not having any real signs of improvement work happening anywhere. Hopefully they will start soon, I suspect Sea World will be next in line once they finish dolling up WB Movie World 👍 So yeah, that's what's happening and not happening at Sea World of late lol ☺️

  13. Does anyone fear that by the fact of MW denying their is a roller caster and not announcing it this ride will just be a big bust. People won't come to ride it if they don't know about it. A lot of people I know have already booked Christmas holidays now. So every day the wait to push it is money wasted. At this stage Abyss had news stories on it and had PR stunts happening around Perth and this hyper coaster is a lot more expensive than Abyss.

  14. All roller coasters are built based on accessibility for constuction workers and what's most convenient to manoeuvre around the site. I honestly doubt MW were like "hey build dis sectionzz 1st plz cause lyk we wanna put a huge banna up kbye"

  15. Love this shots angle, really show the height and angle down the coaster makes. Thanks for today's updates @pushbutton

  18. Movie World always has been a little hidden away, almost possible to drive past without noticing it's there (if you're not trying to look for it of course). Dreamworld is a lot more "in your face", especially with WWW right next to the highway. The new coaster will certainly make MW a lot more prominent.

  19. There have been a bunch of rumours floating around as to what it's going to be and pretty much all the suggestions have been awful. For a ride that would have so obviously been perfect to be themed to one of the top tier hero's they've managed to get themselves into a rather strange place creatively with a massive magenta coaster. It's almost at the point where they're better off too announce the coaster and have a competition to see if the public can figure out what to do. Maybe no one will scream sexism if a female member of the public calls it Wonder Woman. As for the logos, yeah the park logos are good, the parent company corporate logo can piss right off. I hate to break it to you Village Roadshow, but you're not a lifestyle brand, give up trying to put your logo on things. Movie World is a stronger brand, and that's what'll make people excited when they come to the park. No one cares about the logo of the parent company.

  21. I also got the park today and was impressed. I look at the top of Batwing and think this coaster will be the same height. Fence at Green Lantern isn't blocked of either so here are a couple of pics.

  22. I read somewhere a few months back that apartments could be bought from as low as $100k but the killer is the strata fees - $25k and up a year!! That's almost half my annual income!! So yeah, we just go up there every year instead. Gives us something to look forward to each year. Its a case of too much of a good thing....

  23. Sinestro was mentioned early on when the first track arrived. again though, its a minor villain not known to anyone outside of readers of the Lantern comics, those who watched that terrible movie. Hes not the basis for the best coaster ever built in a country. The colours have no resemblance to ANY Wonder Woman imagery. Some people here know what the theme is and are keeping lips sealed (rightly so), I am not one of them, but for me it's either a generic/non-individual character themed, or it's The Joker. That's it.

  24. So for the rumoured cost of 7 million (for DD and the area) they did not market that at all. (To what they should have done) Which makes it a waste of money if your not marketing a new attraction to bring attendants up. All they need to do is look at how much attendants went up for AW with Abyss and their marketing campaign. I was hoping this ride would do well and we will see more big attraction like this in the future. But if nobody knows about it attendants won't go up and it will be a loss for MW. MW really need to start building hype for this attraction. Which is harder to do now that construction has gone verticals and theirs less stuff to tease.

  25. Did they even market DD? All I saw was the it's good to be bad sign. Was there anything else?

  26. I really hope that when they do finally announce something they just go all out and we see and hear about it everywhere, and everyone starts talking about it, because right now, the majority of people are only hearing about it either through here, or through FB pages (and some haven't been reliable with the information they've been publishing). And if they don't go all out, I will be a bit disappointed. Even if the ride is absolutely amazing, it will be sad to think of what MW could and probably should've have done. That said, they haven't announced anything yet so I'm not going to judge until they do. The only acknowledgment so far by MW is this on FB: At present we haven't been released information about the new attraction. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page for updates about our exciting new ride. What did make me laugh is this posted on FB to MW: I think someone is illegally building a big pink thing out side your theme park. Just wanted to let you know. Plenty of people are posting to MW and asking to them, so there is plenty of interest, just still no announcement. They do know what they are doing, they have experts in the field and may have some grand plan for the marketing, I just wish they'd do something, even if it is just putting those signs back up, maybe on the construction fencing in the carpark.

  28. Redboost. Having felt the agony of leaving the Gold Coast at the end of my holidays, knowing I wouldn't be back for anything up to a year each time (until I finally moved here 2 years ago), I know the pain! Maybe you'll have to do what I did.

  29. My daughter thought of something unexpected - could this possibly be a sinestro coaster to combat the green lantern coaster? Unlikely, but I thought she was clever to come up with the idea. The coaster could represent sinestro's skin, the cars themselves could be yellow. Just a thought....

  30. I've probably said it before but I'll say it again - the news articles and editorials on Parkz are so insightful and well written. The bosses of our parks would do well to heed the not-so-subtle advice contained in them. I could not agree more with this article. What happened to VRTP's formerly excellent marketing department/s? And by formerly, I'm talking many years ago. There was a time when virtually everybody in the country knew about it when a new attraction opened. Everything from the printed collateral, to outdoor, to their TVCs brilliantly drummed home the message that there was something new and exciting going on. That's how the GC parks became such a success story. Now, unless you're a diehard park fan, or maybe a local, you're unlikely to have the faintest idea about some of the recent additions, and would certainly know nothing about anything planned. At a time when parks internationally are thriving, led by new attractions and openings and the serious hyping of them, and even smaller regional parks here at home are doing the same, VRL parks have become shrinking violets. Maybe it's time for the big guys on the GC to start taking advice from some of the smaller operators around the country who seem to be getting a leg up? These parks have clued in to the importance of ramping up new-attraction-based marketing and are profiting as a result. As an example, just take a look at this case study from Funfields in Victoria - http://www.theinstituteofwow.com/case-studies/funfields/

  31. Can someone who's been to the site since it's been topped off confirm if it's an overbank or not? (i.e. it banks more than 90˚)

  32. @Ryande16 Just checked with a contact, the blue knuckle boom onsite is a 135ft unit (41m) unit, so based on how extended that is in the photos, will revise to what Ryande16 said, about 30m sounds spot on.

  35. i echo @Slick's sentiments... it's just the panel of pool fencing in front of it that detracts from it - it does look like its meant to be permanent (i hope not) - but surely a few bollards would have been less obtrusive?

  36. I've seen the VRTP adds a bit lately on TV and there's one thing that really bugs me with them. It's like they don't want people to go to Paradise Country. "visit Movie World, Sea World, Wet N Wild, ...... "and more"". While displaying the Paradise Country logo on screen. "and more". They're advertising the 4th of their 4 theme parks as "and more". Not as Paradise Country, just as "and more". So in their eyes, much like Ol' Pinky, it doesn't seem worth mentioning.

  37. That's actually a really good idea. Hanging a banner of some sort, or fix a board from the rides supports during construction. That would really stand out and especially facing towards the highway.

  38. I've heard a few guys say building started in this spot because Mack told them to, but, I'm willing to put money on this section turning into a giant billboard for the new coaster once it's done... Especially after seeing the view from @Adrian86 's photo

  41. ^ Exactly!!! 👏 I know it's an unpopular theory, but I'm actually becoming even more open (and excited!) to this concept now. And let's not forget that whilst the coaster is in DC corner, it's also located right next to the movie studios as well 😆😆😆

  42. This area was an entry for the back-of-house and studios, so the fence top logo was an 'entry gate' decoration. I believe this part of the fence will be removed, and the new fence will just join with the Green Lantern fence. The fence top logo for the new coaster could be a bunch of these, but seeing as though GL has a ride specific fence topper, I suggest we'll see a themed top for this ride. (Urg, a day or two of no construction and we again talk about fences! )

  43. I used my NoLimits "park" to recreat the exact track and footings that are already in place so i can give you differently angled views on what we have so far. I also added a the parts of the layout that are now obvious from track and footings. In my opinion the dive turn around is set as the following element. As the previous element still a vertical loop would fit perfectly with the foundations (not in the screenshots yet).

  44. In the interests of everyone's sanity, let's try and keep these guidelines in mind when sharing photos from parks. 1. Don't ask for photos Rest assured if someone is in a position to get photos of something interesting, they will. 2. Don't ask what to take photos of By the same token, don't ask in advance if anyone wants photos of something in particular. If you see something cool, snap a photo and share it. 3. Don't tell us you're going to be taking photos We don't need to be told hours or days in advance of your impending visit. No one cares. Share the photos you do get, but you don't need to announce it in advance. 4. Check it's new before posting Try and keep up to date on the discussion and minimise duplicates.
