  1. Firstly, You're talking to two different people here. And honestly, people are just having fun speculating about what COULD hypothetically be done to different areas of the park to utilise the WWF ride, as it currently exists, but with minor adjustments to the theming. This thread is about the degrading WWF theming. Also, The studios CAN be used for Fright Night - provided they aren't being used by a production like Pirates, or Thor. Just because they were booked by a production for 1 year during the halloween period, it doesn't mean they will continue to be booked during the same period in the future. If VR really wanted to, they could relocate the Cutting Edge editing facility from the current building to a new facility on the other side of Studio 8, and then take over that space- plus Studios 1 and 2 - for the theme park. Most big productions don't even use those studios for sets and filming - just for set/prop storage and wardrobe - because they are so close to two major roller coasters that you can hear them during takes. The only things that have actually filmed in Studio 1 in recent years is Mako Mermaids (which ended after Season 3) and The Fear of Darkness (which didn't even get a theatrical release). There is nothing stopping VR from expanding MW into the Studio area if they wanted to do. OR building a new Fright Night facility in the footprint of SE, or even within the footprint of the new coaster. They could even turn a Fright Fight shed into a permanent Laser-tag facility that can be transformed into a maze for Halloween - similar to what DW did with Kevil Hill. Honestly, there are hundreds of possible options or attractions that COULD be built at MW if they had the will and capacity to pay for them and there was a business case to justify the expansion. My posts have just been about having fun imagining what I would love to see happen - which is all these forums are actually useful for. So maybe you should calm down a bit, stop swearing at and abusing people, apologise, and stop pretending that any of this discussion actually matters or has any impact on VR's plans.

  4. I absolutely don't like this line of thinking. ParkChatLive was doing it last week. They have a segment that goes something like you have unlimited money and you can do whatever you want to an Australian park. The other week they turned Dreamworld into Disney. Last week the turned Sea World into California Adventure Park. I believe Movie World is there next episode and going by their track record Movie World will become Universal Studios. I, for one once would like somebody to come up with an idea that is not a copy. What’s going to make Australian parks great is if they are different from any other theme park around the world. Give somebody a reason to fly from another country to visit.

  5. Okay, so I just got back from my annual trip to the GC and I have to say, despite all the negative press and downturn in attendance, this was the best visit yet. So I've decided I'm going to do a write up on every park the family and I visited, things that stood out and things that could be improved. So lets start.... Warner Bros. Movie World This was the first park we visited and also the only one where we went back for a second visit. Things we liked: Fast Photo - this is a great option for those wanting ride photos. In years past, we were very selective about which photos we wanted simply because of the asking price (close to $20 for your 6 X 8 photo). With the fast photo option, we could go on all the rides and simply just save the photos to our VIP pass to access later and print out. Admittedly, I did purchase this option for only $39 instead of the regular $99 when MW offered it last year so my opinion of it might be a bit skewed, but I guess even at the higher price, its still a good option, especially when you can print the photos off at your local Harvey Norman store for a $1 each. Atmosphere - being the busiest of the parks, there was a buzz in the park. It just felt busy and happy and the kids loved it. Licensed characters - most people know the characters, Batman, Superman, the Looney Tunes Gang, Scooby and Shaggy. The kids knew who they were too and were happy to pose for photos. DW had licensed characters too but they're not as big a name as MW's offerings. Things that could be improved: Paid photo opportunities - there were sessions where you could get a photo package with the Justice League or the Looney Tunes gang but it was limited. We lined up for a chance to get the package but just as we got to the front, they said it was sold out. Times and locations for photo opportunities - on the first day we visited, photo opportunities were rare, but on the second day, there was at least double the chances compared to the first day. They should have a listing like they do at DW where times and locations for photos are listed. Makes planning much easier. Food options - Rick's Cafe needs a major shakeup of its offerings. Overpriced for what it offers. Gotham Burgers, with its family package was tolerable as far as theme park pricing goes, but the chips tasted like ass, and the chicken tenders in the kids meals were overcooked. Scooby Doo coaster - 40 minute wait for this ride - I only had to wait 10 minutes for SE and I rode that twice in the same time I would've waited for SD! But the kids wanted to ride it so we waited. The gutted out backdrop really does this ride no favours - there's no atmosphere, no cohesiveness, it just feels like a rollercoaster in pitch black darkness. I'm aware that its due to be fixed up but the ride simply wasn't worth waiting 40 mins for. Lets hope the fix restores this ride to its former glory or better yet, improves it. Overall thoughts - a great day had by us all but you just get the feeling that MW knows its the best at the moment with their offering and are just cruising at the moment. Dreamworld This was the second park we visited but for me, the biggest surprise. Things we liked: Staff interaction - Every staff member we spoke to had a genuine, warm feeling in their interaction with us. They asked us how our day was, where we were from and even made suggestions on how to save on merchandise without being overbearing. Then there was one point late in the day when the family and I were on the DW express doing a lap and then a DW staff member boarded at the next stop and sat behind us. He began talking to us and another family, asking us how our day was, what our favourite things in the park were and anything we could suggest to improve the park. The other family then asked him about the park and how it was doing since the accident last year and he said the park realised that there was a negative perception of theme parks in general at the moment and that they were trying to rebuild the public's trust and the only way they could do that was to talk to them directly. Food offering - The Billabong Buffet was great value for money with kids eating free and soft drinks included as well. For less than the price of the Family Deal at MW, the whole family was well fed, and even had dessert thrown in as well! And the range and quality of food far exceeded that of Rick's Cafe at MW. Photo opportunities - all the photo ops and times are listed on the park map making it easy to plan our day for photos. The Photo Pass USB band which costs $50 for unlimited photos (both ride and character) is fantastic value too. Tiger Island - the whole family loved this and the walk-through shop was great. The show itself was entertaining but it could do with some improvements...... The Lego Store: This one is a no-brainer for me as I am a massive Lego fan along with my kids, and we spent close to an hour here alone - me shopping for myself, and the kids playing with the various items around the store. This store is a godsend for DW - the amount of customers exiting the park through the store, all stopping to browse and for photos, the exclusive sets, I was like a kid in a candy store. If not for the wife, I would have maxed out my credit card shopping here!! The queues - we didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes for any ride which meant the kids were able to get multiple turns on their favourite rides Things that could be improved: Tiger Island - there isn't enough seating!! Hopefully this will be resolved in stage 2 of its development but it desperately needs more seating! Gold Rush Country - Buzzsaw was closed the entire day we were there, add to that the Log Flume being out of commission and TRR's closure, there's no incentive to visit that whole side of the park. And the view from Giant Drop makes the area look so depressing. Hot Wheels Sidewinder - my god, this thing is rough!! My daughter kept complaining afterwards her neck was sore and my head was throbbing after riding this. Overall thoughts - I felt that this park was the most family-orientated of all the parks we visited. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to help, serve and/or greet us. My wife commented that she thought DW was the best of the parks we visited, but the tragedy from last year was however, still in her thoughts. If the experience we had is anything to go by, this park deserves to be doing much better than it currently is. It also needs a major, family-friendly ride of some sort to fill out the park. The Gold Rush Country area needs a major overhaul - Buzzsaw was closed when we visited so there was no real incentive to venture on that side of the park at any time throughout the day. The family man in me loved this park but the thrill seeker in me preferred MW. Seaworld The 3rd park we visited but the weakest of the ride-based theme parks. Things we liked: The covered food/retail area - the whole area looks great with the covered seating and the monorail passing through. Fast Photo - same as with MW, our Fast Photo pass allowed us to save all our ride photos. The multi-park nature of the pass made it better value for money than buying individual photos. Things that need improving: Lack of things to do - Vikings Revenge is out of commission, Spongebob 3D was closed and the lines for Storm and Jet Rescue were long enough to make us think about lining up again Not enough character photo opportunities - the kids really wanted to meet Spongebob and his cast but we didn't see him at anytime - Dora made a visit but aside from that, we didn't see any other characters. Shows are becoming stale - The Dora Show, Affinity, Fish Detectives and Jet Stunt show are essentially unchanged from the last 2 years we've visited. For a park which seems to be using its shows as it drawcards for the time being, the shows are need to be refreshed. Overall thoughts: this park really needs to be next on VR's list of improvements. The whole park at the moment, seems to be a work-in-progress. Even the park maps seem to be an afterthought, merely a printed A4 sheet that you could print out on your home printer, and in low res too no less! There wasn't enough to keep the kids entertained, let alone the adults. There's nothing new to draw us back and even the things we loved in previous years were now closed. The park isn't terrible as such, but there's just not enough to fill a full day for the family as in previous years we've been. Paradise Country The last of the theme parks we visited but felt like a value-added attraction rather than a stand alone park. Things we liked: Animal feeding - the kids loved the interaction with the animals and the free feeding was a bonus. The kangaroos roaming around brought a smile to kid's faces and the variety of animals available for the kids to feed and pet was great. Live Shows: the live shows were great and entertaining and gave us some insights into farm life. Things that could be improved: Lack of Paradise Country themed merchandise - a lot of the stuff available for sale was generic - the stuffed toys were similar to what you could find at the tourist shops in Surfers, the trinkets were all just basic stuff you can find at your typical retail outlets. The only thing I could see that was marked with Paradise Country were some of the T-shirts and even they were just a koala or kangaroo on a shirt with the Paradise Country logo. I was looking for a key chain with the Paradise Country logo on it and all they had was a photo keychain with a photo of either a kangaroo or koala with the PC logo printed over the picture. Even AOS has their own keychains with a metal logo!! Overall thoughts: I'm not going to judge this park too heavily because the way I see it, its a little value-added extra which you get on the VIP passes which you would otherwise never have got. I don't see why anyone would visit this park before going to the other parks but as a freebie with the VIP passes, its certainly worth a visit if you can spare the time. Final thoughts: While there is all this talk about how theme parks are going through a rough patch at the moment, I certainly didn't feel it and I'm still optimistic at what's coming. Obviously the new coaster at MW will be a big draw card, but if DW can keep doing what they're currently doing and add another major ride in the future, the future looks bright. Even SW, with their new attraction for 2019 has a silver lining but they'll need to add either another ride or refresh their show offerings. Paradise Country will, for the foreseeable future be the value-added extra for those looking to purchase/renew their season passes. If I had to pick my favourite of the parks, MW would just edge out DW but not by much. SW sits in 3rd and PC in fourth. Now I just need to wait another 12 long months before I return......

  8. There isn't a snow flakes chance in hell that WWF will get a Pirates of the Caribbean makeover. I'm actually stunned that you think Village 'own' that movie and the rights to it just because Disney filmed bits of it at the studios. Even if they did, why spend millions to retheme an entire ride rather than spending a few hours of labour to fix what is really a bunch of small things? Haven't been on the ride for a while, what's broken?

  9. Thanks @AlexB 👍 Although I would have appreciated the slightly less sarcastic response. This is the first time I've had this issue happen.

  10. The two disused structures posted above are a food outlet and an eating area that is also used for group bookings. You make it hard not to insult you when you keep posting such ridiculous stuff.

  11. Amazingly distribution and theme park rights aren't the same thing. I hope that's something new CEO might be able to sort out, getting better access to the Village movie library, particularly ones that it is partnered with Warner Brothers on.

  12. I'm not a movie expert either, and I know that stuff. I mean Pirates of the Caribbean is one of Disney's most famous dark rides and is what the whole series is based off, at what point did you think Village now own it? It's a breathtakingly stupid thing to say, I did you a massive favour by skipping over it fairly quickly and changing the subject. It's like saying they should replace Bugs Bunny with Mickey Mouse and then saying 'Oh well I'm no animation expert!' If you live on Earth you'd just know this stuff. Do you live on Earth?

  14. I don't want Movie World to remove the theme, there's no reason to do such a thing. For me it was the first major-ish ride I went on as a kid. It doesn't really matter how old the theme of the ride is, it still does the trick and families alike love it. As they say 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' and I think that's a good line in regards to suggestions of retheming.

  16. You're right about one thing - Time Warner does OWN the theme park rights. I misspoke. But unfortunately, here is where you're wrong - Time Warner have granted those rights to and Universal holds the EXCLUSIVE LICENSE for theme parks and all related attractions. Although WBMW did have a HP experience attraction for a couple of years (2001-2003), this was before the license agreement with Universal was made, which was announced publicly in 2007. Source: https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1262449/000119312507178559/dex1041.htm \To wit: So... pretty much ANYTHING inside a theme park, et al: The current license term runs until July 2019, with two five year options, provided the park doesn't default - which they're unlikely to do for the same reason Orlando will retain its license to use the Marvel characters exclusively on the east coast. So Time Warner can't just decide to allow another park to use the HP license. Universal and Time Warner agreed to exclusive use by Universal, and the only way they'll release the exclusivity is if they choose not to renew the option (which would suggest the theme is losing its popularity anyway), or if their standards drop below the expectations outlined in the contract (and if Dreamworld can maintain the Dreamworks standards, the chances of Universal defaulting on HP is highly unlikely). Given Hollywood was announced in 2011, with Japan announced in 2012, the HP juggernaut at Universal is unlikely to end anytime soon.

  17. It's been explained before. open an internet browser click in the address bar type "www.google.com.au" reading the article title words in the media link - type those into the search box. In this case "ardent-leisure-ceo-deborah-thomas-to-be-replaced-by-simon-kelly" (without the hyphens) Click 'search' Scroll through the results until you find the media outlet originally posted (in this case the Autralian), or - you know - feel free to read the same article from many other news outlets that don't have a paywall. Now you know how to do it, the first one has been done for you: http://bfy.tw/BR7T

  18. Even a Harry Potter ride at MW is far more likely than Pirates... How to fix Movie World: let them go at the current rate they're going because they're doing fantastically at the moment (perhaps consider replacing the marketing team though 😉)

  19. Flat rides take up almost no space. Look at where they squeezed BatWing SpaceShot, or where DW shoved Shockwave. Fright Night sheds could be re-purposed for permanent WestWorld attractions (robotics or western), and additional Fright Night expansions could move into Studio 3 or 4 on the Film Lot. Or they could build new areas into the footprint of SE or the new coaster. If they really wanted more space they could expand right up to the edge of the PC car park. I'm just throwing around ideas. I know they won't implement them. It's just nice to think about what MW could do with their existing assets that isn't another DC attraction.
    1 point
  20. Disney own Pirates of the Caribbean. The movies are actually based on one of the rides in their park. BUT TimeWarner does own the rights to WestWorld on HBO. I know it's not a movie, but It would be awesome to see that entire section of the park expanded into a WestWorld style experience - especially since the whole concept of Westworld is a futuristic theme park. They could expand the western themeing, put some flat rides at the back of the park that have a small foot-print, and introduce an entire science fiction/robotics area. They wouldn't need to do much to WWF, but they could leverage that into a WB franchise that isn't DC comics.

  21. They weren't looking at toppers. They only had the one. From that time, they have added the Village one. They also had a neon light that they were playing with which they haven't added. This might be the finial layout but they have been playing around with it over the last month. Question, what part will light up? I'm looking for the light everywhere. STOLEN photo alert. TPSN credit.

  22. No, but I doubt they would install these two and decide whether they like them or not. They spend a long time deciding on these things, before getting them manufactured. Happy to be wrong, just my thoughts. I do like them though, especially the MW one.

  24. @themagician You should have stuck this photo up too. This photo is by @themagician Considering they have stopped installing any more @Santa07 I am still going with my idea of they are still deciding which way to go or they wanted to see them side by side before they gave them the go ahead.

  25. Having been on this with a group of people in full tuxedo, wedding dress, gowns etc at the end of April, I can assure you people do find it too hot inside the monorail, and climate control is sorely needed. I'm sure putting a unit on the roof would be the easiest - but also prohibitive because of clearances around the park - but i'm sure that isn't the ONLY option available to retrofit air conditioning units to the trains. If they are near end of life (Remember, although older, Sea World's trains get far less use than those in Broadbeach and Sydney) perhaps they do plan to upgrade them with models that have A/C Viewers of 'Shark Tank' a year or two ago would have seen @Lynton V Harris promoting \ paid advertisement \ whatever it was for launching Sharknado walkthrough. I think it was discussed on Parkz, and at the time, i think it was fairly easily assumed we would see it arrive at Dreamworld at the end of the Kevil Hill run (not to mention Sharknado would fit in much better with the Ocean Parade theme...) Ok, so I know this is going to be hard, because its very hard to make you see reason. So try this one - you have a 1978 Chrysler Sigma stationwagon. It's been your daily drive for decades, and its great. You love it. You've spent hours cutting and sewing shag pile floormats and dashmats. You've got the little beaded seat cover for the driver's seat, and the lambswool steering wheel cover. You spend every weekend lovingly polishing all the paint and chrome. You spend an hour every thursday applying armor-all to all the internal plastics and vinyls. (mechanics amongst us - settle down. none of this is meant to be technically accurate - just meant to describe a total and catastrophic failure for which there is no return) You've just taken it in for a service as it doesn't seem to 'feel' normal. Your mechanic let you know that you've got a few problems... the engine is going to need a complete rebuild. the gearbox needs to be replaced. There's rust deep in the chassis, and both of your axles are bent. Now, you're a reasonable guy - and you look at the fact that a 1978 Chrysler Sigma wagon is only worth about $1400 at the top end of the market, and with your current problems - most likely a lot less. But you love your car. You've had it for years. Many of your friends have had rides in it, and they love it too... But you're reasonable, like i said - and the cost of rebuilding the engine, replacing the gearbox, repairing the chassis, and replacing both of your axles is just far too much for a vehicle that will likely experience another costly issue not too far into the future... so you can throw a few thousand at it and get it to remain on life support for a few more years if you're lucky, or you can bite the bullet, retire the old girl for scrap, and utilise the large amount of space that the car occupies in your garage for something much better. I mean think about how much land the monorail utilises - prime land within the park - both front and mid stations are right on the main drag - Plus mid-station is somewhat reliant on the castle, if I remember correctly - and if we see the castle go, well... time to clear out the old garage! I for one would prefer if they would invest in NEW trains, but there are a whole lot of requirements for those trains - they'll have to fit in the same space, the track will have to be capable of powering them with all their modern gizmos (can anyone say Sydney Waratah?), and they'll have to be cheap enough that the park can justify the replacement and ongoing operation of something that, with the current park layout, really is obsolete. Only guests can use the resort station, so having just two other stations - front and mid station - its a really arse about long way to get from mid station to the front of the park (which takes ages), or a really long way to go from front to mid, when the time taken to climb to the station, wait for the train, wait for the single operator to unload, load, open and close gates and doors, and then travel at an ALMOST walking pace to Mid station - you could pretty well have walked there. So if they do replace the trains, they'll need to build at least one more station near the old Corkscrew site, and while they're at it they should also build an 'exit only' station over the carpark. Just a platform and a set of stairs that it only stops at in the last hour or so of the day to help empty the park a bit quicker. /rant

  27. Batman will not be happy with that. Maybe it's MW plan for us to advertise it for them. The more we talk about it increases the chances papers like the bulletin will run an article on it and it doesn’t cost MW a cent.

  28. Yeah, but even the poll in the theme thread has SS leading over joker, so surely it would have made more sense to go with that. But yeah, good on them for writing an article that didn't mention TRR.

  29. I'd say you could look back through most of the thread and people would have just replaced "I think the theme could be X" with "I think the theme should have been X". When the announcement is made, plenty of people will find some crap to waffle on about for another hundred pages.

This is WHY they built the sheds out near west. Muppet. Muppet. Muppet. Below is the west burgers building. You aren't worth my time with measurements and such, so i've included intencity for scale - as you can see, almost the entire building (if you exclude the skill games area at the top) will fit within the dodgem cars arena. Hardly 'quite large'. Seriously - just shut the fuck up.
