  1. I have absolutely no idea why Theme Park Girl, whose contributions I and I'm sure many others value greatly, has been attacked in this thread, including seemingly by members of the Parkz crew. It's just bizarre. Please don't stop contributing TPG! I also find it strange that there is an attempt to bring down and fault the user that created that great mock-up video of the coaster. It certainly gave a sense of the scale, regardless of whether individual elements were 100% correct. Are people envious about this or something? Thanks to everyone who is updating the thread regularly with pics. It's nice that barely a day goes by without new photos. This is going to be one well covered coaster, as it should be! Movie World might not be interested in marketing it, but it's certainly getting plenty of attention on Parkz.

  2. Hey guys ! My Name is Gero, I`m from Germany, living very close to Europa Park and the Mack factory. Knowing the enormous quality of the Mack Megacoasters, especially those unparalleled trains...I have to admit I`m officially jealous now I would so love to have that coaster you`re getting a little closer to me I`m following the updates closely and enjoying it very much. Hope itยดs okay if I`m joining the conversation a littlebit. Greeds from Germany... Gero

  3. I was going to save this for an article, but I see an opportunity here to debunk the "why does everyone hate on MW" train that goes round so often here, so here goes: I actually went to the effort of sifting through the last decade's worth of major hyper roller-coaster announcements, comparing the time between the announcement and the open date. Want to know what I found? Since 2008, between announcement to open, there's typically a 9.4 month mean or 8 month median average, and that number has increased right up to 14-18 months (Mako & Karnan respectively) in two recent instances where social media has become important in creating hype and marketing for these kinds of attractions. That means, as we stand here right now, today, as each second passes, even if they announced the coaster right now, they would be going against every single global trend for successfully marketing a major project like this in the theme park industry for the last decade. If they open in September (and by all bets, they still will be) that'll mean that there's less than four months between announcement to open IF they announced today. That's an worryingly small amount of time to get the word out about a project this big. It's such a small amount of time, in terms of collecting the data above, it would be considered an anomaly and not counted in the overall dataset. Now, this is not me hating on Movie World, nor is this me hopping on the Movie World hate train. Most folks know I love the crapper out of the park, and there's some incredible folks working in there to whom I have much respect for. I also want to see Movie World get the amount of success it deserves for putting itself on the line and building such a behemoth of a project, and from a marketing perspective, this isn't a case of nitpicking personal taste in terms of art direction or style in a TVC, this is me identifying something that worries me in light of wanting the best for the park and its team, something that I hope they identify promptly. To simplify, no one hates Movie Worlds at all or thinks they're doing a bad job, it's just that we want to tell everyone about it, ideally, we should've known four months ago, the CEO wanted to tell us four months ago, and we still don't know, and as someone who's passionate about Movie World and wants to get the word out and support them, it's really frustrating.

  4. Here's some of the pics from before I went in. As usual, I've downsized them somewhat to 2000pixels wide (or high if portrait). They're normally 4288x2848/300dpi. Some of the supports. They're not all the same length and thickness. Most of the supports in the above pics are for the loop. Hey, part of the track nobody's seen before! /s The twisted airtime, complete into it's next element. Note the dive out of it doesn't go all the way to the ground, but when the track comes back to this area it's very low to the ground. See below. The reason the turnaround isn't finished? Parts 70 and 72 haven't arrived yet. A track to the left of me, track to the right. Here I am, looking at piece 98 in the helix. Yeah, I can't sing. The supports for section/track piece 32. Surely this is for an airtime hill? Most supports so far relating to the lift hill go as far as 15. This gives me the opinion that there's only one airtime hill from the drop. From my phone pic earlier in the day, look at the supports leading into the 'loop'. Is the airtime curved like the Stengel Dive? ...for the jigsaw players. Last pic from the series before I went in. There's a curved catwalk, but it's NOT the piece out the front with the stairs. There's also some straight track behind that.

  5. good to see that hibiscus growing fast on the fenceline. They are not only beautiful but eventually, they will provide a barrier between the outside world and Adventure Wolrd. Guests should not see the road and bus stop/passing traffic while inside a theme park, it should be completely screened to help them escape the daily grind. In about 5 years from now, you won't be able to see in or out.

  7. Me too! 2LI makes some fantastic stuff, they set the bar super high, and i'd go as far as to say they're an asset to VRTP's campaigns. However, if you're basing your opinion off data inside a client brief that either VRL or OMD supplied to say 2LI, you're still ultimately going off information provided by folks who have yet to add a mobile portal or disability access to their core websites, a move that's definitely impacting their search rankings, and thus, their digital strategy as a whole. First of all, if you're not advertising because on an inability to pick the right contractors for the job to deliver a project on time that by and large the rest of the world is totally capable of pulling off (with a few notable exceptions), then yeah, you're right, you shouldn't advertise, because your company has bigger problems at hand it needs to worry about. This isn't the case with Movie World. They've got a great GM at the helm supported by great ops folks and the company has picked vendors and contractors to build this very carefully. IF this ride was what you're probably used to producing TVC's for i.e. Fright Nights, Arkham Asylum VR etc. etc. i'd totally, 100% agree with you, because if it was for a small to medium capex attraction or event, everything you say would checkout. But, to be clear, let me say this again, this is Australia's biggest spend on a single attraction so far. This isn't something you market like everything else, because if you market it like everything else, you're going to lose huge sums of money in the process. Major capex spends like this follow a trend the world over, a trend that isn't being followed.

  8. Whoa. Talk about opening a can of worms ๐Ÿ˜ฎ As one of the two people who essentially initiated this whole debate, I just felt the need to pipe up and attempt the defuse the situation a bit. Despite what has been said and done over the past 24 hours, I want to say that Parkz is a bloody awesome forum. Yes, sometimes things are said in the heat of the moment, and sometimes things are a lot more than that. Heck, I've needed to take time out in the past occasionally to have a 'breather' when things have annoyed or frustrated me on here too much, but I've always come back. Essentially @Richardand the Parkz team here are doing a fantastic job overall of running this place, and when stuff like this blows up its easy to forget that they are voluntarily taking time out of their own days to run this site free of charge for us all to benefit from. Its a bloody fine line to walk between over and under moderating a forum... you want to allow people free speech, but you also don't want to allow it to turn into a mud slinging match, either. I once ran on online discussion forum for parents myself for many years (you can imagine what that was like as well, given a large percentage of that member case was pregnant, hormonal women - all with an opinion or two to share ๐Ÿ˜ฎ) so yes, I know what it's like to be on their end as well as ours. Yes, there are members here that don't get along, heaven knows most of those grudges have since become public knowledge. Being someone who has participated on here for over 10 years, and since admittedly built up a bit of an online persona on social media, I've also managed to make a swell job out of building an audience of people who like and dislike me - and as demonstrated yesterday, some of the latter clearly don't like making a secret of it. Personally I choose not to correspond in any way with members I find less favourable or have had off-board issues with, and that generally keeps me out of trouble... at least when they choose to do the same, anyway. I wholeheartedly agree with what Richard has stated earlier at drawing the line at personal attacks. There's simply no need to swear at people, call them names or ridicule them for having a difference in opinion. If you find yourself having to edit your own post later to remove content that you've since realised is inappropriate for the forum, or your posts are regularly being deleted in response to complaints by fellow users, then you're definitely doing it wrong. I privately contacted Richard directly not long ago regarding this exact issue, and I really think it all comes down to showing respect toward one another. If we can stay respectful, then there really shouldn't be any real issues. Anyways, I really love this forum and I hate to see everyone bickering like this. Leading to this outcome certainly wasn't my intention with any of my posts yesterday and hopefully everyone can try and move on from it. It's been good to air some bottled up issues out into the open and obviously admin have taken them on board, so lets leave it at that and go back to being a normal, disfunctional theme park enthusiast family again, eh? โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ (and yes, sorry but I don't care what people think of my smilies. I'm continuing to use them the way I want to ๐Ÿ˜) PS. As a side note, I don't want to dive into any of the issues of yesterday as I do really want to move on from it, but I do want to address to all those who have spoken up in my behalf or defence: thank you. I was feeling really down yesterday, so the reminder that my content contributions to Parkz are appreciated really means a lot to me. Rest assured, I'm not going anywhere. Cheers ๐Ÿ‘

  10. You're totally, 100% wrong, and I use the word "wrong" sparingly in my life and what I post. You don't spend this country's biggest ever capex on a single ride for the locals only. They're not going to advertise to internationals, but if you spent just five minutes Googling (which wouldn't even be a tenth of the time I spent researching data the other day, let alone the time i've spent creating marketing materials for parks for globally) you'd find hat a fair chunk of the attendance is interstate, and that audience needs months & months of massaging if you want your first few months to meet budget for something this major. This is why everyone else in the world does exactly this when opening a ride. Oh sorry, let me take all my research & data and throw it in the bin. The objective of what I was aiming to find was the time between making an official announcement, and officially opening the ride.

  11. Hello, new here. I am pretty sure the new coaster is themed after this delightful pink plastic Bunnings Watering can. You can see the color very closely matches!

  12. It's "Warner Bros. Movie World", not MOVIE WORLD, not MOVIEWORLD. VRTP's art department has better tools than MS Paint The type is poorly balanced The type is awful There's no DC trademark for the ident No. Just no goldcoastparkz. Can we all just chillout for one day? @joz pass the peace pipe round, mate.

  13. I think an interesting thing that people missed here is the fact that there is some electrical conduct inside one of the footings that is believed to be a non inverting loop. Now why would electrical conduct be in this area inside a footing? Judging from the other supports it obvious that it's not for a MCBR, unless there are electronic breaks or trims. I think we might have some LED lighting or sign at the top of the non inverting loop. Maybe not a sign but some lights. Which would be cool if this ride had an awesome lighting package. Which you can see along the main highway. Sort of like the green lantern logo. Or it could be a for a camera for onboard photos or maybe some sensors. Can anyone who goes to MW often confirm if they have seen a hallow support that a conduit can go through or is already going through?

  14. Well this post by @Fultre is about as ridiculous as they come. Nobody has BROUGHT DOWN the animation. All anyone has done is said it's great but not accurate to the finished coaster design. AND WHAT EXACTLY IS WRONG WITH THAT? There seems to be some strange thing here that nobody can say ANYTHING negative about anything/one without some group of crusaders coming out with pitch forks. Reality check, not everything in he big bad world is positive and 'you're wonderful' all the time. And not everything said negative is a personal attack. As as for this being the nastiest community around, I think you need to get out/read more.

  15. As we assumed, no work today due to the rain. Coulle of large supports have been installed Plenty of supports ready to be put in place A large support have been tied down until track is installed And there aren't many pieces of track left, so I imagine that quite a few will arrive next week, especially when GL goes down for maintenance in just over a week, so lift hill construction should start soon after

  16. At the risk of triggering off another round of debate, the only thing that interests me here is: people suggested wonderwoman people shot down wonderwoman as a suggestion because she has nothing to do with pink\purple\fuschia\magenta\whatever merchandise for the 75th anniversary of Wonder Woman goes on sale, which includes a tie-dye shirt with a fairly close match to the colour scheme of the coaster in it. If there is anything to the rumour that it was originally suicide squad, and they decided to change it, the colour wouldn't exactly fit, but tying merch in to it with similar colour schemes is a good way to validate it...

  20. So hang on we removed a post and you wanted to carry on the argument? If there was a silly post and it was removed, wouldn't that be a sign to drop it if your point is 'we all need to be more positive'? Not trying to pick a fight but you know? Meh bugger this I'm more than willing to put this whole thing behind us. Peace pipe dude? EDIT My god you lot respond fast!

  22. These pics are from later in the day, after TPG uploaded her pics. Careful fullsizing, the panoramas are big. 4000 pixels wide. Well picked, Rummy. 'Loop' is certainly left-in, right-out. This angle, and the next pic below, really helps show how the helix is "wobbling" with climbs and dives. Anyone want to Photoshop a non-inverting loop into this?

  23. @joz by all means, I'm happy to apologise and admit when I'm wrong. I've done it on here before (for a recent example, see the topic about the hole in Eureka Mountain) and I'll continue to do it in future. I also would have probably done so this time round too, had I realised I had worded my post in a way that implies I was avoiding doing anything of the sort. But that post was clearly more than just pointing out a mistake on my part. Why not simply state "I think you should admit to Richard that you were wrong and apologise" in a respectful manner and leave it at that? Why leave remarks implying that a off-forum personal grudge against me is a contributing factor as well? Why go on to lecture over alleged personal faults, and then be as petty as to mock me over what smilies I choose to use regularly in my posts? Exactly how does any of this relate to anything? Honestly, I'm questioning how can any of the above could NOT be clearly seen as a personal attack? I'm sorry but I am not going to take shit anymore, and I will defend myself when I feel the need to. @Richard of course I am sorry if I upset or offended you in any way with my post or response to it. Most people here would be well aware by now that I sometime word things backwards or in a funny way. But I never do it intentionally. That's just me. Anyway, I'm off to 'adult' at work. These posts will probably be well and truly gone by the time I log back in, so I might as well leave it there. I'm over it.

  27. Side-note here, if Movie World's reading this and thinking i'm bitter, i'm genuinely not, for the love of god folks, all I want is to see you, your team and your park do its absolute best. When it comes time to hold a press day to announce this, invite @Richard & I along - our combined ability to reach a global digital audience through sheer size and quality of content alone would save you tens of thousands of dollars in marketing dollaridoos. I make no reservation in stating that when I was reporting on Dreamworld earlier in the year, I was netting tens of thousands of unique hits a day from written content alone, and without sharing Parkz data, being the #1 non-official site for your brand means the second people are done watching channel 9's news segment, they're coming here and reading the full scoop. Don't believe me? Here's some Google research to get you started.

  28. I am really pleases to say that I have absolutely no idea what all this is about!! Why give airtime to dramas on a place that we should come to for pleasure? Good on you @Theme Park Girl for having such thick-skin ๐Ÿ˜ƒ. We are such a small community, there really isn't room for shit-slinging before someone get's their nose out of joint!

  29. But what's stopping them teasing or posting ride construction pictures? Even if they don't announce it they could come out and say what was on that banner, "the best attraction in the Southern Hemisphere coming late 2017". Then they are not giving an exact date and they are building hype. They could post that on Facebook and give some teasers. Just look at what Abyss did for AW they advertised and teased the f*ck out of that and that exceeded projections by 200%. Thanks to teasers and marketing strategies. You build it and people will come, but they had to know about it in time to come. Like also mentioned people need time to book holidays and not everyone wants to go to all of the parks when they visit they might only choose one and MW needs to give them that reason. GL's announcement video had animated POVs in the video, so it's very possible to do that.

  30. I may have snipped my post so that first bit you said doesn't make sense, so, to re-clarify: if you've been at a park in the last year or watched a park video, you've probably heard my voice at least twice (sorry about that, btw). GIF not directed at you, directed at @wikiverse actually, but if I hurt anyone's feelings, here's one way to go about fixing that. Alternatively, here's another.
    1 point
  31. Sorry @wikiverse but I pretty much categorically disagree with everything you've said. I would outline how and why but @Slick has done a good job of saying what I would have (well a better job actually). All I will mention is I don't know many people who plan interstate holidays only 6 weeks out. Most in any type of semi-serious role would need to book annual leave further out than that, especially given its school holidays (most school holiday leave where I work is requested 9-12 months out).
    1 point
  32. @Fultre Just added the bit you decided not to quote. If pointing out that something is good but inaccurate is part of the problem with the community, then honestly I don't know what to say. FWIW I agree that this isn't the friendliest little corner of the Internet. But if someone pointing out the world isn't all wonderful and positive is a challenging concept I suggest never leaving the house TBH. I'm with you and don't like people down voting people they don't like or disagree with. I only very rarely use the downvote option, but as part of the 'Parkz Clean up team' if there is a low quality post or something that just descends into nonsense I can hide it. Fun piece of trivia, the MW coaster thread is actually 167 pages at the moment. Also @GoGoBoy ain't new, he's as much a piece of the furniture as I am. Everyone should listen to him though, people like him are why I stay around. Finally I don't follow who doesn't get along with who off the site or in private messages. I moderate based solely on what's posted here. If someone is bullying you on here and in your life in general feel free to private message us to let us know, but generally we don't have to worry about that because our audience is mostly adults who know not to take things said about them on the internet to heart.
    1 point
  33. Nope, I completely disagree. The less information they give, the less people will know about it. Unless they've driven past MW in the past month, they probably have no clue the thing exists. People have made their end of year holiday plans by now and if they had announced the coaster a few months ago they would've attracted the attention of those interstate or overseas, but since they haven't very few of them actually know it exists.

  34. Here's a panorama I took yesterday, it should give everyone an idea of the amount of coaster development space still left between where they are currently up to (just to the right of the Stengel Dive) and the corner opposite Green Lantern where the lift hill is expected to be going. If you take that other image into account that @Inverted posted of the two green lantern coasters stacked up, you can also get an idea of how tall the lift hill is expected to be (yes, higher than the Stengel Dive hill, and taller than the Batwing!) when this thing is finished ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Needless to say that whilst fast progress is currently being made, there is a lot of track building still to come over the next 4 months ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘

  36. So, it turns out the endless debate over this pink/purple/magenta/fuschia etc. colour isn't just limited to rollercoasters. Shared this pic on my blog today for a bit of a laugh, saying I should have hit up the driver for the name of his car colour to help settle the argument some more: Anyway, someone posted in response that she owns a car the same colour, and it's called "Mulberry". I decided to google that car colour to see if there was anything official for it, and whats the first thing I come across? http://mirageforum.com/forum/showthread.php/1386-Quick-question-colour-names-(plasma-purple-or-pink-or-mulberry-) Yep, another forum where people also can't decide exactly what colour it's supposed to be ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Anyway, for those who can't be bothered clicking the link above, their conclusion was the following: to Americans, that car colour is commonly referred to as "Plasma Purple" and explained as "an interesting colour that changes appearance in different lighting". So there ya go. I really think the jury is out on this one, given it seems to be a chameleon colour of some sort which appears differently to the eye based on its environment.
    1 point
  37. Nope, TPSN's logic is always wrong, you'll learn that eventually. @Reanimated35 has a point, where have you been living the past year to not know there's a Wonder Woman movie coming out in 2 weeks?
    1 point
  38. Based off that logic, they're re-doing the batman shop too, so it could be themed to him. What if everyone is wrong and it's themed to Ben and Jerry's? I mean that track colour just screams "ice cream", right?

  39. I've been thinking a little bit on the height of the loop. With the second twisted piece being number 43 and the Stengel starting with piece 49 there's 5 pieces left in between for a half-loop. Assuming 10m a piece that's 50m total - if I calculate a circle with 100m circumference (50m per half circle) I get a diameter of 31.8m. Obviously real loops aren't circular but my mathematical skills aren't proficient enough to calculate a Euler spiral. All the same, I don't imagine the height would go above 40m. As long as they don't trim the heck out of the first hill / unknown element I reckon the train will take the twisted part at the top of the non-inverted loop with quite a bit of speed, might even get airtime! This thing could be absolutely bananas

  40. OK time out here: Thing is when you say something is practically spot on and it's not you will get called out on it. It's really good what he made, but it's not right, and doubling down on how right it is right before a massive 'it's not right' moment is a bit silly. I mean of the 4 things that have been built 2 are right, one is off the mark and one is totally wrong, another is about to be wrong. Don't take it as a personal attack when someone points that out. Finally, and this is for both of you; you're among the adults on the boards, don't make it personal and childish.

  41. If its anything like the double helix on Goliath at MM i would be more then pleased. As i can remember that thing packed a huge amount of g's for something that looked like a family ride element, and is the reason i now never underestimate a rollercoasters power ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ You sure you're on the right website mate? ๐Ÿ˜‚

  42. I think the thing everyone is tapping into isn't nostalgia - it's the 'movie magic' theme that used to be a part of every ride at Movieworld. Every ride (Batman, Gremlins, Police Academy, Lethal Weapon) had a clear story element to it, or at least a connection back to the movie. It wasn't a loose 'if you pay attention you'll get it' thing like with Arkham Asylum, they genuinely made an effort to make each ride a journey from start-to-finish. The rides were immersive and had unexpected elements that would surprise you along the way - like the usher running into a theatre screaming on the gremlins ride. The staff played roles. They were an integral part of that story and experience. Whereas now, the only thing you're likely to hear from a staff member is 'make sure you have everything out of your pockets'. The guests at the park were mostly treated as active participants in the story of the ride - not just passive observers/riders. It is much cheaper for MW to license the DC cinematic universe than individual films and the characters will last much longer without dating, but hopefully they can expand their digital interactive offerings in the future to bring back some of that participation in a way that doesn't require lots of expensive performance staff. Movieworld is still a great theme park and they have a lot of opportunities to introduce a new kind of 'magic' in the future.
