  3. Okay, so you guys really don't leave much to cover; but here are my two weekly comparison shots. (Photo's taken around 11am this morning) Now that the final segment of the Inclined Dive Loop has been completed, only the higher peaks of the ride will make this shot different. (I mean, obviously, though, right.)

  5. Pics from late morning: Still waiting for that middle support piece. Despite appearances, there isn't an alignment issue with the airtime support. Not sure where that support on the right went later in the arvo. From Green Lantern queue. Note line-of-sight across swamp to the dive into the n-i loop. Arvo pics: Maybe that pole from the morning pics is the side pole on the big support here? Showing the progress of the track coming out of the helix. Best I could do of the new supports. If the main support pole is taking the weight, we're sure these supports are for the airtime hill leading into the non-inverting loop? Looks like a rocky area at the bottom of the non-inverting loop?

  6. Was definitely an awesome day at dreamworl. Defenley the busiest i'v seen the place in a long time, would of been perfect If they had the cannon-ball express running around the park. Big thanks to Disney for letting the 501st league continue to put this on.

  7. So the ride is now open and here's my thoughts... I think it looks like the worst idea Disney ever had for a ride redo since Rocket Rods. What a fail, sure the theming and pre show is top notch, but the ride theme in no way fits the ride system and at the expense of what was an amazing ride and theme (albeit not as well executed as it's siblings). The original theme, story, experience, was pure Disney. This incarnation belongs at Universal, I'm left wondering where the 3D glasses and water spray is going to happen. The ride experience lacks any coherent story, suspense or just real 'WTF just happened' factor. I think it's best summed up by the sign out front, that's something I would expect to see in a Six Flags park. I'm actually shocked that they are opening Pandora and this biscuit at the same time. To me holding off and re theming Star Tours to Guardians would have made much more sense given the film is pretty much centred around flying on a space ship and foreign worlds, and the entire pre show/que could also be themed that way. That and the fact Star Tours makes little sense being in Tomorrowland once the new land opens. About as much sense as a giant Guardians tower makes in an old world Hollywood part of DCA which would be much more suited to say, and Old abandoned Glamorous Hotel.... hey wait a minute.

  9. So FF's has announced a new ride for the next season. A second new ride. This is great news for Fun Fields and its goods to see more parks investing! From FF's facebook page.

  11. Well done to the 501st Legion and Dreamworld for another awesome annual event. Despite my family and I not being able to stay for long due to work commitments, we still had a great time today as always ☺️ The turnout today crowd wise was fabulous. Inside the park was clearly thriving and the carpark was nearly full when we left around 1pm. It was a great feeling to see it so busy, probably the busiest yet in my attendances since it reopened in Dec last year 😊 One thing, though... it seems Disney have come down hard on Dreamworld/501st Legion in regards to what they can and can't use for the event? Either that or they just didn't go bring in as many props this year 😕 There was definitely a lack of photobooths... last year they had the x2 speeder bikes, the trash compactor, the life-sized limited edition figurine box, as well as the four basic backdrops. Today however, there was just the latter and one x1 speeder bike. This was my only complaint, being a bit disappointed as I really loved the ones which had props to pose with. Otherwise we still had a great time, and I certainly can't diss anything that's run for such a good cause ❤️ Hopefully there will be more again next year ☺️ PS. Did anyone else happen to spot Chewbacca at all? I swear I didn't see him at all today, including during the parade. Dunno if I missed him, or if he just wasn't there 🤔

  12. I think people are going to be pretty divided on this one and sorry @djrappa but I am going to have to disagree with almost all of what you don't like about it. - the new preshow and internal queue is vastly more entertaining with tonnes to take in and one of the best AA figures ever done. - the ride system's capabilities are being maximised with a far greater variance in motion, it's fast paced from start to end and is randomized. - the show itself is randomized with 6 different offerings, making it highly repeatable. - the entire attraction is beautifully irreverent and with the music back ground it just feels so damn fun! Just like the movie! - the overall ride experience is longer and more thrilling from beginning to end. For those who want the original Twilight Zone experience, the original Florida tower always has been the better experience with the 5th dimension room. I agree that much of GOTG looks very Universal, tbh it's a theme that is meant to be cheesy and given how well it has been executed I believe the ride is going to be a huge hit for Disney. Personally I can't wait to ride it 😃

  13. Dreamworld was profitable. It was making Tens-of-Millions of dollars a year in profit. Those profits were not being re-invested back into the park. They were being used to build Main Event Bowling Alleys in the United States. It is exactly that lack of re-investment into maintenance, park safety, and staff training that Dreamworld now finds itself in a position with 3 major rides closed, another undergoing extensive maintenance and a damaged brand - at a time when their competitor is building the largest and most expensive single attraction at an Australian Theme Park. I'm not buying the 'poor Ardent - just trying to feed hungry mouths' nonsense for a second. If they had been re-investing in the park, instead of bowling alleys they wouldn't be having these problems at all. This is a self-made problem for Ardent and I suspect a lot of people on this forum believe Ardent haven't learned a thing from it.

  14. Might be making something out of nothing (but of course that's what we do best here) but could this be a clue towards the theme of the coaster? I.e. not DC themed, just generic, tall, twisty coaster? This and the fence toppers is making me lean towards this thought of late.

  15. If it's not about the coaster construction (and you talking about you following the coaster construction doesn't count) don't post it here. Not targeted at any one person, just been cleaning house in this thread AGAIN is all.

  18. Hopefully a few more airtime moments back to back just before that. There's something awesome about seeing the supports for such a massive coaster as this emerging over the tops of such unmistakably Australian flora.

  19. I prefer my pancakes at 1 am. Why isn't Dreamworld fulfilling my pancake needs? But for real, I wonder why they'd only have a menu for two hours. Seems a little strange to me. Looks like I'm going to have to be at the park early to get my fix

  20. It's a bit hard to tell, but looking at the photos, it seats around 128 people? Given that the park will have what, 3500 people on a normal day? That's 3.66% of guests that can be seated at any one time in that area, and a whole lot of empty space. Seems like they just want people to buy takeaway food and leave.

  21. Here's a question for you MickeyD from both yours and Santa's comments... How do you think this ride sits for anyone who HASN'T seen the films? I take your point about how the pre-show needs to set it up. But I think it won't have anywhere near the impact for someone who hasn't seen the film franchise as it will for those of us that has. Having said that, I don't think you needed to have seen one single episode of Twilight Zone for Tower of Terror to work because it really was a self contained/explained story. That's another point of difference I think Disney USUALLY has over Universal. Here I think you kinda need to have seen the film to appreciate the ride. Much like Harry Potter. In comparison I haven't seen Cars, and I don't think I'm missing anything from that ride experience as a result, and I mean who needs to have seen Song of the South in order to enjoy Splash Mountain, same with Indiana Jones. I think this is maybe the biggest reason this is falling flat for me... that and the fact I don't think it will be timeless like was mentioned above. Having said that the vast majority of people will probably LOVE it, so what does my opinion matter

  22. I thought this was a terrible idea when I first read about it, but after seeing it in action I actually take that back and don't agree with those who still sit in that boat. Sure, it doesn't have the nostalgia ToT did, or the same atmosphere that ride gave, but Disney certainly hasn't dropped the ball with theming, in fact I would dare say that they have upped their game with this ride. Okay, the Twilight Zone was popular, but it's getting quite old now and the youth of today are definitely going to jump for a GotG-themed ride over a Twilight Zone-themed ride. As @MickeyD said, it feels fun, and I think that's what Disneyland is all about. I do think I would've preferred to ride it as ToT, but I see absolutely nothing wrong with this ride, except for the whole "don't fix what's not broken" thing - but Disney has done it now, so I see no reason to complain because it still looks like a great ride.

  25. Yeah... no. Maintenance and possibly a computer upgrade similar to what SFMM did with Superman at the absolute most. There would be no point upgrading the LSM's / Track at all.. it wouldn't be a financially wise decision in the slightest.

  26. How does it sound in there? Looking at it the extensive use of only hard surfaces make it seem like it's going to sound like a horrid cafeteria. Would have liked to have seen a lot more warmth in the space. What the Aussie parks currently have with this fascination with 'ultra modern corporate' design style really leaves me baffled.

  27. Correct! They really are strict on this. IF fantasmic is back (im not exactly sure on dates) make that your priority. It's much better than World of Color or the Fireworks (plus you can stay in that area and see fireworks anyway) because of the sheer spectacle that literally appears from nothing. If you have a spare few bucks I can highly reccomend doing one of the show dining packages. Even if it's just desert. That will ensure you a great spot to watch the show without having to camp out and stake a claim.

  28. Bear in mind, Disney are stricter on fastpass return times. Previously, if it said say 10am-11am you could get away with using anytime after, even 7pm! But now you cant, so the strategy of building a deck of fastpasses and using then up at your leisure later in the day doesn't work anymore. You have to use them in the designated hour

  35. I think people will observe Giant Drop is taller when they're calling it an 'attraction' rather than a 'Roller Coaster' It's pretty generic and weak as far as teasers go, but my god something at last! EDIT: Is anyone else bothered by the fact it looks like it's a top down view of the track despite trying to simulate a hill?
    1 point
  36. I imagine the idea for this teaser was just to get these major titles about the coaster out there. Saying its the greatest ever attraction, the longest, tallest and fastest. You can tell by the track imagery its going to be a coaster. I don't think people are going to say when its finished, "Hold on, they said this is going to be the tallest. Giant Drop is taller. I ain't riding it"
    1 point
  37. It's about time... I'm really happy they're finally giving us a proper teaser, but I'm still disappointed that it's taken this long just to give one to us, it should've come months ago. Also - tallest & fastest? I mean, I've heard worse before, but have they not had a look up the road and wondered what that big tower was? Even adding "full circuit" would've been nice, I know it's pretty minor but I don't like it when official things like this get facts wrong because the GP immediately believe it.

  38. The pole is temporarily connected to a pole from the helix. Lots more thick poles (already connected together) on the ground both inside the fence and on the road. If they're not working tomorrow then Monday will be "non-inverting loop support day". The helix exit looks like a smaller version of the twisty airtime leading into the helix. So it exits the helix by making a right handed dive turn.

  39. Wow brilliant news!!! So many good things to look forward to in the theme park industry in Australia at the moment- and the majority of the parks are stepping up their game!! This is the cream on the cake and has really flown under the radar!! Given the developments on the Gold Coast, the new plans and attractions for Aussie World, the $20 million dollar investment in LPS, the continuing expansion of Jamberoo, the new attractions at Funfields and Adventure Park, MI3 at Adventure World, plus now this its a great time to be an amusement park lover! Looking forward to hearing more news and info as it comes to light!

  40. Are we SURE we're getting a non inverting loop? The supports so far look similar to flashes traditional loop compared to flying aces support structure on its non inverted loop.
