  1. I believe they will be building cages around the tee mats incase someone lets go of their golf club. It will look something like this..

  2. Not only are they considering how to make this attraction better, but they're also being transparent in the process and communicating that to their fan-base. Good on you, Dreamworld.

  4. Just never believed that it was truly doubling the price as some claimed or that it makes the pricing less confusing or that they won't be tempted into discounting on them... Average ticket price is up 30% in January....revenue up 24% in January...that puts sales down in total numbers. Not even close to great on onepass sales numbers to non-locals seems pretty obvious. Probably quite a few 2-day passes at $119 and onepass to locals at $139...the rest probably not a great performance in total numbers. Many tourists would have locked themselves into trips prior to November. And that is on the period that is mainly post the Dreamworld tragedy. So maybe not a great result. Actually, admissions revenue is up 4% from November 1 to January 31 from what the annual report actually says according to the annual report. So November and December were actually down for admissions revenue. http://villageroadshow.com.au/-/media/VRL-Corporate-Media-Library/Documents/ASX-Announcements/Latest-Announcements/VRL-Half-Year-Report.pdf So how about a theory of lots of locals waited to buy until January with the aim to be using it through to the end of December and then giving it a break for 12 months? Plausible. Oh and this gem on their new annual pass tickets in the presentation: "Entry to White Christmas & Carnivale are included in new annual pass - major value add for visitors" .... so knocking off some of the revenue into tickets rather than having this as a separate purchase. (Yeah I know they used to give one of them away regularly to VIP pass buyers but still, could also contribute to that average ticket price being up.) Attendance across the GC parks down 5.8% in the first half for FY18, drop was 3.6% last year for the first half of FY17 and 13.8% for the second half. Revenue down $5.1M for 1H18 vs revenue down $24M for 2H17....all the more reason to suspect admissions revenue in January wasn't an amazing result....if you took 20% off in January last year and then put 24% on this year you are in the same position. Still think discounting will happen when it comes time for them to renew a lot of the passes that run until the end of June....there'll be people nervous to sure up admission and revenue numbers.

  7. And then we could debate whether it's a water park or a fully fledged 'theme' park. Yeah, it's like they've got no clue. Maybe they should have built the park they were supposed to build in the first place? They really need to listen to their customer base about service and, of course, build something new every couple of years to get people coming back.

  8. So I can wear a camera on my head, but not a hat... stupidest thing I’ve ever heard... “Headwear is worn at the riders risk and will not be retrieved”. Simple.

  9. I'd have the finale over the fire machine or beat box show, assuming any suitable footage was taken.

  10. But not a fucking hat in the sun... Like, i totally get they probably have issues with hats flying off on the splashdown, and then have all sorts of issues having to retrieve it because people get insanely angry about something that's their own fault, but can't we just: put up a sign on the final lifthill advising riders to 'hold onto your hats as we cannot retrieve them if they fall into the water', or: just make everybody wear a perspex cover that is bolted to the floor - kind of like a cone of silence - to prevent their hat from coming off?

  11. Absolutely. I predict closer to open \ initial reviews will try to hold this ride to the standard of Soarin'... and while I think that will be a little unfair - simply because of budget, i'd like to see them make some effort, and hopefully they've got some money left in the budget to 'non essential' things like theming. As we know, it’s not identical to Soarin’ – but hopefully it is quality enough to stand on it’s own – it’d be a real boost for the park because it’s a legitimate blockbuster, but doesn’t touch on any raw nerves that might be stung by it being a thrill or water ride.. Even though there’s still mechanical elements, you don’t see GCB articles about dangerous cinema seats… I do hope though that Dreamworld does put a little thought into presentation. Whilst the main street facade of the cinema is a classic part of their heritage - I do hope that they tastefully reinvent the facade, and suitably theme the queueline and surrounds. Again - i don't want to suggest holding them to Disney's standard - but the area surrounding Soarin' in DCA is well themed in Aeronautical what-nots, and i'd like to see them do more than just some crappy quickshades with tyres thrown around... given "flight" will be a logical themed connection, i'd like to see them explore what they can do... If they haven't yet settled on an idea, here's mine: Of course, that as a concept is pretty much cookie cutter - so you can start it off with any number of other rides in place of tailspin (although tailspin would be the most fitting) - for example: Flying off the top of the hill on HydroCoaster Shooting out of the TOT tunnel, up the tower, and flying off the end into the sky *i do acknowledge that there may be a certain taboo about portraying a currently operating ride as malfunctioning in such a way that riders could be flung into the sky, so while it'd be an awesome way to do it it's probably something to be avoided - the rest of the story would work well though... The film could also interact with various Dreamworld rides in it's inevitable segment of flight over the park - including: flying through the middle of buzzsaw as the train rolls overhead flying through the HWSW loop flying through the green room funnel film segue through waves of our beaches - getting dumped by a flurry of whitewater and coming out the other side at flowrider \ cave of waves Alright, alright, this was meant to be a short agreement with @Roachie's post above, but it became something longer. Do we need a new thread for construction \ speculation of the ride? should this be moved? I'll leave it to the mods.

  12. Forgot to mention in my RHLR review the other day.. strange occurance.. guy in the group in front of me was wearing a baseball cap, and a go pro with the head strap over the cap. Now I thought “oh for sure they’ll tell him to remove the go pro”. But nope, the ride attendant tells him, once he is already in the boat, “sorry mate, no hats allowed” so he off comes his hat and the go-pro, and then the ride op says “oh you can keep the go pro on your head mate, just not the hat” hmm...

  13. I dunno why this would be a major issue, the number of enthusiasts in a theme park would be a couple per day on average among thousands The number of them who are ticking off a ride on a kiddie coaster is an even smaller number of that. So don't try and tell me they are making lines longer lol.

  14. I think they mean the actual Elmo and Abby puppets (Or, I guess as the press release puts it, muppets ) will be coming to the park, not the character suits they already have. PS, Suhan, don't make multiple accounts, use your existing one thanks.

  15. Settle down boys and girls for a history lesson Lets go back to a sea side town called Elston. Built on sand dunes in the middle of nowhere. With little more then a hotel, a pub, and sandy road, it was a minor blip on the map between Sydney and Brisbane. It was always somewhere for a weekend away, but was struggling. In desperation, the local council looked upon reinventing the town, and renamed it Surfers Paradise (after the hotel which by a huge coincidence, was called the Surfers Paradise). The name change, and the advent of surf life savers - which made bathing safer - injected a new energy, and the area became a popular tourist destination. With the influx of visitors, many half day attractions had opened by 1958. These include the Jack Even's Porpose Pool, Marine Land (On the current day site of Marina Mirage on Seaworld drive), Magic Mountain, Pleasure Island and the speedway. However, easily the most influential half day attractions was Keith William's Surfers Paradise Ski Gardens. The show proved hugely popular, and by 1970 had really out grown its site (and was also staged on a public river which made the logistics of the show somewhat difficult). At the same time approx 60 acres of crown land was made available. Keith Williams was the only person who showed any interest in the site, and teamed with John Menzies, created Ski Land in 1971. At the same time Keith founded the Gold Coast Tourism Bureau, which he headed for 3 years which was instrumental in promoting the Gold Coast as a tourism destination. Keith added marine animals to Ski Land, and renamed it Seaworld (Interestingly the name was 'borrowed' from the US Seaworld before the copyright laws kicked in). Within a few years he had bought Jack Even's Porpose Pool and Marine Land and moved the animal stock to Seaworld. He turned Marine Land into a bird sanctuary and then sold the land a few years later. Around the time all this was happening, Peter Longhurst (the lawn mower man) was compelled to build his own park. After finding no suitable land in Sydney looked elsewhere to build his park. The success of Magic Mountain and Seaworld on the Gold Coast inspired him to build Dreamworld (Which at the time was a mixture between the Aussie bush and Disneyland). Then 2 very important things happened. Firstly Seaworld was placed on the Australian stock exchange. This injected $20million of capital into the park, and gave birth to the Seaworld property trust. Around the same time, Cade's County Water Park (Now Wet 'n' Wild) opened. Seeing the potential of a water park on the Gold Coast, SWPT took over Cade's County and renamed it Wet 'n' Wild. In 1989, SWPT began steps to open its third park, which would be like nothing seen on the Gold Coast before. By this time the Gold Coast already had 2 well established theme parks, and Movieworld, squeezed its way into the market. Hence why we have the parks we do. It all boils down to 2 men, Keith Williams and John Menzies who opened Seaworld, which was the first of the parks, and really paved the way for bigger attractions in the years to come. Keith Williams was also instrumental in promoting the Gold Coast as a destination, hence we have a theme park industry.

  16. Now the only reason for that Brady, is because QLD has a government that supports everyone. If a park want's to close because of Finnancial Difficulty, the government will help them out. All th other states and territories go: If you want to build a tourist attraction, you will have to do everything yourself. We won't help you at all. That's why Canberra's Downunderland is in such dispair. And if N.S.W was governed by the people that govern Qld, it wouldn't have closed because the government would have supported and said: No don't close. We'll help you.
