  2. It's like Tower of Terror without the skull or the "Tower of Terror" down the side - it's part of the ride's DNA (although in saying that the spot where the skull is located these days is pretty awful compared to where it was when it opened.)

  3. I also witnessed the fountain on sat and was glad to see it return. Whilst I don’t mind too much if the surf boards come back, I do agree with ben, they are iconic and a part of the parks DNA just like Main Street is, and just like the Steam train was, and shouldn’t be destined for the trash heap. If they can’t make use of them in their traditional position, hopefully they can find a new home for them somewhere.

  4. The cynic in me still looks at this statement with skepticism. I mean - we know trolls and the theatre are confirmed in the works, but with Trolls being a 12 month thing, its not a long standing investment in the park, and as has been referred to elsewhere on parkz - we don't know exactly how much of the theatre is actually coming out of dreamworld's pocket? It sort of stinks of Sunway Leisure and Wonderland - minimal window dressing, as far as the trolls thing is concerned, and clearly the suggestions of brogent's contribution \ partnership, although not really something paralleled at Wonderland still has that 'outside contractor feel' to it. Are they really investing? Or is it just window dressing?

  5. Prior to the Dreamworld announcement, Brogent were the ones spending ~$30 million bringing the concept to Brisbane. Brogent have referred to Dreamworld as their 'operating partner'. Dreamworld have referred to Brogent as a 'core partner'. Brogent has leasing and profit share arrangements with some i-Ride operators around the world. This is almost certainly what they were planning for Brisbane when Dreamworld jumped in and ostensibly became the home for that project. It's unlikely Ardent are spending a whole lot of their own capital on this ride.

  6. Not exactly related to mi4 but hey I’ll put it in here and keep general AW chat in here like for Goliath’s thread. Today was a great day at the park with @Tim Dasco with a decent amount of crowds for what was a very hot day for the first half of the day and than which became very overcast. Great to see that the dragons kingdom characters are out and about every morning on weekends taking photos with people and that the photography team are always around the park taking photos of people around the park and especially on Goliath as it doesn’t have a photography system as it’s a pendulum ride. Staff were full of enthusiasm as always braving the heat throughout the day and also entertaining the crouds filling the park. Big shoutout to Boden and Pamela for always interacting with guests and being kind to everyone. The AW staff team will be loosing one of their kindest and most interactive team members today, Pam who will be leaving the team due to personal reasons. Also a big shoutout to Shannon in the fairy floss cart for serving tens of families when the park had closed all by herself trying to ensure everyone could leave the park by 5:30pm. Overall an AWesome day and couldn’t really be fucked reviewing my overall experience today because well, it’s the same thing I would write all the time anyways. (If you want my real reviews, hit up the AW 2017 - Goliath thread) (P.S. Hey AW staff team! :))

  7. I don't think a lot of things are really suited to the flying theatre ride system though. For things like a motion pod simulator or motion seats yes, but as I understand it for flying theatres its not about sudden movements like being dumped by a wave, nor is it convincing to squeeze a large theatre through a hole in the green room or the HWSW loop or strapped into a tailspin seat (Because fundamentally you'd have 60 people staring at the inside of a Tailspin OTSR that is like 10m high on screen. The technique is footage with the horizon fairly level. For me, its really back to basics to make this a success...Go over the 12 Apostles, over the Sydney harbour bridge, over Katherine gorge, over the Barossa vineyards, over the Nulabor ribbon of highway with trucks tooting. along the Gold Coast beaches, and yes conclude with a flight over DW. Anything else is tacky. It's fly over Australia, not pinball machine through the DW rides.

  9. I think it's a genuine question and I don't see anyone saying that theme park fans or pages are wrong for being interested in this. I do think it's an interesting topic because even other nearby VRTP offerings like Paradise Country, Australian Outback Spectacular, Wet'n'Wild Buggy don't get much mention in this community. Granted Topgolf certainly has more of an appeal to this audience than PC or AOS, but things like WnW Buggy seem like they'd be a fit too. Or the indoor go-kart joint just across the road that has a zipline coaster for that matter. For what it's worth, the driving range at Victoria Park in Brisbane is modern, licensed, two levels and features (albeit unsophisticated) targets. They don't have the private booths or the technology which are obviously at the core of the social experience of Topgolf but I'd argue the fundamental concept (drinks and whacking balls at things with mates) isn't as novel as it might seem. Topgolf just package it into a very schmick experience. And it's American. Ignoring theme park fans for a second I do feel like there's a cultural trend at play where Australians visit America once and then return to brag about the things they did and tried before their mates. In the same way that decidedly average US fast food chains like Taco Bell or Carls Jr are taking off here, I feel like Topgolf is riding the current wave of anything American to some extent. That isn't to say it's not a valid reason to be excited about it, but it's undoubtedly part of the bigger picture. I'm looking forward to it because of how it aligns a number of my personal interests. Quality American food (hopefully), good beers (hopefully) and golf. Despite the proximity and ownership I don't see any inherent theme park connection. That said it's been covered on Parkz a bit and I certainly plan to do more. If group events were our thing I'd probably be more keen for an afternoon/evening at Topgolf (18+, first round on us, no one's driving home are the rules) than say a day at a park.

  10. I dunno why this would be a major issue, the number of enthusiasts in a theme park would be a couple per day on average among thousands The number of them who are ticking off a ride on a kiddie coaster is an even smaller number of that. So don't try and tell me they are making lines longer lol.
