  1. Has this been posted? No? Good. The rocky rapids type slide at the end looks excellent. Worlds steepest water slide? And this

  2. As someone who went on Mystic Manor a few weeks ago. I can confirm the ride is just an amazing example of a dark ride. The projection mapping and sets do work well.

  3. Kind of like Dreamworld then.

  4. The one major thing I hope DW do is the staff get special uniforms for this ride to really enhance the experience. If it’s just the standard uniform then that’s definitely a missed opportunity

  5. Have you seen videos of Mystic Manor, that’s a great example of what projection mapping can do when combined with physical props.

  6. In regards to what people have said about the choice of an airport theme, the airport theme could have worked if they put a bit more thought into it. Being in Main Street, Dreamworld, Queensland, I would've themed the 'terminal' by using the design of the 1940's-built (but 1930's-designed) administration building of Brisbane's Archerfield Airport, the main QLD airport in the 1930's, as inspiration. On the outside of the DW version though would be 1930's-styled advertisements (from a fictional airline called Dreamworld Airways) saying 'See Australia from the air!' etc with each advertisement having a different picture of an Australian landmark seen on the ride. The cylindrical part of the building would be on the corner of Main Street with the rest of the building 'being folded' so to head north and east respectively. Towering over the corner of Main Street would also be an air traffic control tower, inspired by the one which used to be on top of the Archerfield Airport administration building (1940's-built but 1930's-designed). It can also be seen in this photo, which gives an idea of how it would look in Main Street with people wandering around. You walk into the building, under the air traffic control tower, into a room which contains the queue line & access to a souvenir shop. The queue's theming would be inspired by the interior look of the Archerfield Airport administration building (again built in the 1940's but designed in the 1930's), which is rather plain. The staff members would have uniforms inspired by 1930's fashion. At the end of the queue, you are directed to your seat (which may require staircases to access). When you reach your seat, rather than seeing a blank screen, the first frame of the film is already shown - the runways and taxiways of an airport (The real 1940's-built/1930's-designed Archerfield Airport administration building literally is right next to the taxiway - and still is). The film opens with you lining up on a CGI runway and taking off. The flight then begins, with a change of locations occurring when you fly through clouds. The first set of clouds appearing a few seconds after take off transporting you to the Gold Coast skyline. After more Australian landmarks, the film concludes with the plane landing at Dreamworld (again, on a CGI runway) & parking outside the 'northern side' of the 'administration building' (though you can't see it when you actually hop off the ride as you are again facing the taxiways on the screen - it is the same thing you see when you hop on the ride). The 'adminstration building' briefly seen whilst taxiing after landing is CGI too. You then exit the ride (taking the staircases if needed. There are both entry & exit staircases to increase capacity) via the souvenir shop, which also contains tourist brochures for the landmarks featured in the ride.

  8. Interesting that they’ve engaged a supplier who has gone and violated their contractor induction policy right from the get go... Hardly feel that’s a back of house photo approved by VRTP marketing dept

  10. Fairly off-topic but related to this park, but I wasn't aware the old waterworks on Manly Cove was related to the Mt Druitt one (as alluded to in the commercial), that one still operates today more than 20 years after the Mt Druitt one shut its doors, renamed to "Manly Surf n Slide" and still has all the old slides, except one which got demolished after some kid broke their arm on it. That little park has always interested me, used to go there a lot when I was younger and it is interesting that they cram so much into a little space. (they are planning to demolish everything and build some proslide slides in a few years tho) Those quirky old water parks were built in a bygone era - in the late 70's-early 80's when health and safety regulations in theme parks weren't exactly a big thing and primitive, unique, yet fairly dodgy water slides that were built in-house were the only waterslides (you can see them on the water mountain slides at Adventure World), no Proslide or Whitewater West in those days. Yet those dodgy water slides have an odd charm to them that will likely never be matched by giant Tornados, Aqualoops or bowl slides. Strangely enough, for some reason, the Mt Druitt waterpark's cousin up north has survived Wonderland, Luna Park's 3 times it reopened and Wet N Wild, still making money today even though those waterslides are staring down the barrel of being almost 40 years old.

  11. Think calling it a 'Knock off Disneyland' is a bit overblown for a place that just contains a few Disney character statues.

  12. I think the website has been like this for a year or two. Saw this version of the advert for the first time over summer from memory. Seems to be a lot of good things happening up that way.

  13. As has been said, big top won't go anywhere. As both an event space, and a licensed venue, I daresay provided it receives regular usage, it would make more money in a night (for less cost) than a typical weekend of rides. I used to work for a company that had the in-house contract for AV in that space, and the value of JUST the AV component of the events they hosted there told me everything I need to know about how important that space is to the park.

  14. If I had a dollar every time someone on these forums complained about ToT’s extended downtime, I’d have enough money to knock the ride down and upgrade the giant drop.

  15. Relevant enough for Warner Bros. to build a whole new park overseas with those characters in it. Marvin the Martian Rocket Ride was in the top left of the satellite view @themagician posted. Kid's areas are Dreamworld's biggest strength and Movie World's biggest weakness - the park is aching for some more attractions the whole family can do, and not just tweens & adults. I've said it once and i'll say it again, Driving School needs to bugger off pronto and the entirity of that shed needs to be a giant air-conned space packed to the brim with kid's rides like Mermaid Lagoon at DisneySea or Warner Bros. World's Cartoon Junction & Bedrock lands. The facilities and storage that their tech department uses in the other half of the former Looney Tunes River Ride shed can be easily built/relocated whilst it'd be an order of magnitude harder to build something that competes with Dreamworld somewhere else in the park. As for the outside area - you could literally cmd+c & cmd+v a whole page off Zamperla's website and it wouldn't matter - so long as the space continues to feel well themed and has plenty of shade, food choices and things to see/do they'd have something that would rival Dreamworld.

  16. ^ yeah - instead of indicating your thoughts on an ipad, now, if you didn't like the show, you're required to chuck the whole stand into the tank. By having only one stand, this cuts down the amount of negative feedback they get.
