  1. Arrow loopers are like the coaster equivalent of an 80's corolla; they are known to be extremely reliable and run forever unless a park doesn't maintain it properly which Dreamworld has apparently done. A ride like Hot Wheels could easily run for 15 more years, but Dreamworld ends up shortening that by not maintaining it properly and letting the ride look like this: When they struggle to keep their rides looking anything other than appalling then we have problems here. This ride hasn't been repainted in 17 years. No other park I can think of has gone this long without repainting a ride. And if they struggle to maintain a type of coaster that every other park on the planet can do, then we're having problems here. Rides like 50 year old Arrow mine trains are being maintained by companies like Six Flags with barely any problems yet here we are with the second youngest Arrow looper being closed for over two months. Or, heaven forbid - keep a seven year old Maurer Skyloop closed down for nearly 6 months because of maintenance. And this crap doesn't happen just to Dreamworld. It also happened when they owned AMF Bowling back in the day, I work at an AMF centre as a technician, and I can tell you that Ardent cheaped out on maintenance there. When Timezone bought AMF earlier this year the safety standards hugely improved and checks became much more frequent. This company needs to be shut down or end up going the way of Dick Smith. What has come out of the inquest is telling of how appalling the safety standards of Ardent actually are, had TRRR's accident not woke them up the situation would probably be even more worse. And I still don't think they are getting it. I've said it a few times already, so apologies if I've repeated myself here, but I can't stand having this company run a Gold Coast icon like this into the ground like what Sunway did to Wonderland.

  6. If 1 standard modular hold 10 riders. If 1 stack of 3 modules holds 30 riders. If DW are aiming for 60 riders. Does this lean towards 2 theatres?

  9. To go off topic for a minute - a lot of people have a very fanciful version of what happened at Wonderland. Although internally, staff were moaning for a while (and rightly so) the external view to most was that the park was successful and profitable right up until a few months before the closure announcement. I linked recently to an old forum on another website (pre total thrills) that Richard had commented on, and even Richard's view (which is usually quite on point) was stated that the park was in no trouble, and not in any danger of closing anytime in a decade - when it actually closed less than 2 years later. People have it made up in their mind that Sunway's management plan was to operate it long enough to feed their other park and then sell the land when the time was right. That isn't entirely accurate. (if you want to continue the 'reasons why wonderland closed' discussion - don't do it here)

  10. There is a few different options, but not really one that draw entire families like Lego Movie in my opinion. I definitely see your point though Push! On another point, I think a digital puppetry show would be a fantastic addition to Kids WB. (See Monsters Inc Laugh Floor at Disney). It would be really unique and cost efficient - You could run the show with just 3 people. In saying that though, we are not going to be seeing any potential large family ride until potentially 2020-2021 so there may be more options available then.

  11. Village Roadshow Them Parks have requested to extend the currency period of all three aspects of the existing development approval by four years. The requested extension to the currency period is based on the following grounds. Since the development approval was issued by the Council, turbulence in the local and national theme park sector has resulted in the delivery of the Outback Lodge attraction being delayed. The four (4) year extension is considered necessary in order to provide the Applicant with sufficient time to monitor the theme park market recovery and reach substantial commencement of the works. The Applicant been delivering a range of new attractions at the Oxenford landholdings, including the HyperCoaster attraction at Movie World and the opening of Australia’s first Top Golf. As a result of these significant investments in the Applicant’s Oxenford landholding, it has been necessary for other capital works projects to be reviewed and delivery time frames realigned. The approved development remains consistent with the development outcomes envisaged on the site by the Gold Coast City Plan.

  12. Tonight’s review (May be some spoilers) Now this year hasn’t definitely improved in some areas, but then dissatpointed in others. Beginning: Unlike previous years, there is no beggining show. Actors are let out, and they run around and then escape to their positions. This was a real disappointment because I’ve found previous characters like the gate keeper really add to the opening of the event. And unlike previous years, where they’ve just dropped the rope and you run, this time, they slowly move the rope until you get to the maze area. Which made things actually more difficult. This may be because the actors need to get into position, but there is a delay there because they drop the rope, just as the characters run out onto Main Street. So really it’s just bad timing. Precincts: I really thought they did a good job with having all new precincts. Main Streets was definitely the best, with the awesome lighting effects really adding to it all, and some great and unique characters. The live entertainment at the fountain was also good, and they did actually play songs that most people would know. There were also some characters around here. The Bloodwood precinct just wasn’t big enough and a bad position. It should’ve been towards the back of the park, and should’ve been spread out. Around DD there were also clowns, which had some of the best and most entertaining scare actors. But for the Safe Zones, there was too many of them. Around the rides I think is fine to have them, but in areas which would’ve been perfect for scares (AA courtyard and walkways to mazes), they really should have some there. Back when the the mazes were in the Sound Studios, and they had the Zombie alley alongside AA, it always had the best scares. Mazes: House of Kain: This is the first maze we did, so was one of the first to go through. And within 20 minutes the queue area was overflowing. This was definitely a really good maze, and I hope MW do more non IP in the future. Really interesting sets, characters and effects, especially the room that began to close in on you. But I felt like it was too dark. They had a lot of lightning effects, but you couldn’t appreciate the sets or actually see some of the scare actors, you could hear them, but it wasn’t as scary as it could’ve been in some parts. 7/10 Leatherface: We had an hour wait for this one, and the queue was overflowing. As said, it is similar to the way Halloween is, being based around the one character with multiple scenes from the franchise. There were some really good scenes, such as when entering the caravan and how tight it was walking through it. But definitely some missed opportunities with the scares. There were a number of Forrest scenes, but no scares, and moments when you though there was going to be a scare, there wasn’t. But the water and air effects were great. 6/10 Jigsaw: This was only a 20 minute wait and was the maze I got the most jump scares out of. It might have been because of my positioning in the group, but there were some really good ones I didn’t see coming, despite doing the maze last hear. It’s a shame that some hallways were just splatted pain empty corridors, as I find those to have some of the best scares when done right. 7/10 Halloween: This queue was basically empty all night, because of its entrance being at the back of the park. Only had a 5 minute wait here, and the groups being sent through were half the size than all the other mazes, so there were definitely some good scares. Especially when scare actors work together and jump out at once. But it still felt undercooked and had missed opportunities, much like Leatherface did. 6/10 Overall the event was good, but still didn’t fully reach my expectations. They are on the right track with the mazes and precincts, but the event as a whole wasn’t as good unfortunately. I definitly thought it had improved on the last couple years, but still isn’t right there to what it was not too long ago. It just feels like they are investing money right for the event, to take it even further. Maybe it needs more mazes, scare actors, shows. I don’t know, but just needs more I feel. But not more in the way they did in 2016. Overall I definitely had an enjoyable night was some great scares, just didn’t quite reach the mark. FN 2018: 7/10

Wow it really is impressive how much they've gutted that structure... makes me think Movie World really have missed the mark all these years with redoing the old Maverick space with this kind of attraction. In other comments, that teaser is just awful.   16. If you could get Lego to sign on to it, sure - but are the characters fitting for what is generally a comedy act? I know we've recently covered the stupidity of a second scooby attraction in the park, but I think Scooby is probably the most fitting - with Scooby, and Shaggy telling jokes... Otherwise - what else have we got available... I could see an original done with Taz Devil - of course assisted by an interpreter - given this discussion is for WB Kids - the Toons aren't that far of a stretch - i reckon you could have Taz, Bugs or Daffy, and Foghorn - they'd absolutely laugh it up. (and this would replace a gaping hole in their current character line-up too) Any other (reasonable and realistic) suggestions?

  17. If anyone has planned a holiday around an expected opening date, fully expecting that the ride will definitely open by the time they arrive, then they're either very naive, or very stupid. I know people here who have gone overseas, and planned to visit a park based on a 'might' be opening, that have at the last minute found out it wouldn't be open - but they went knowing that risk, and while not entirely pleased with the situation, they accepted that these things happen. If they're left very disappointed, it will be their own 'too high' unrealistic expectations that have put them there. I'll just sit here in my caravan outside Sea World. I hear Sea World Wild is coming late 2013.

  18. Well, you probably will get to be one of the first to experience the new Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster, and of course DC Rivals is still fairly new and there are other great experiences to be had that are not as new but still great!

  19. The other day people were askin for refunds becsuse of the ammount of rides closed. If Ardent would of just maintained these rides in the past we wouldnt be having this much downtime and maintenance as they currently are.

  21. As expected! No problem, but they really should have been more careful estimating the opening in the first place. What if some people have booked a holiday late this year based on the expectation of being one of the first on the ride? Obviously they'll be left very disappointed!

  22. That’s what I’m wondering. How much money did they actually save by retaining a few bits of the original building? It looks like they might have even put in new roof slats? And if they did demolish so much of the building, why not re-build it entirely so that the capacity issue is no longer an issue?

  24. Does this answer your question? Review of Fright Night 2018 (and Terror Tour Platinum) here. I have to agree that the "vip tour/scare experience" was the worst yet, I did it in a group of three. Would be interested in hearing other peoples opinion that have done it previous years.

  25. The external facade won't take that long. Most parts and pieces will be fabbed off site, and will simply attach to the existing structure. at worst some paint and panel work which COULD be done overnight if necessary. I'm not confident they'll hit their date either, but let's not exaggerate the amount of time some simple window dressing will take.

  26. I've tossed up making one of those panels myself. Maybe I'll do it over the summer. On another note, here's a coaster i made a while ago. But I've gone so deep into sketchup modelling and even a bit of NL2 scripting that it's going to be a while until I finish it. Especially as the uni semester is coming to a close I'm finding I have less and less spare time. Hopefully I can get something decent finished by the end of the year.

  31. I think they'd regain some public confidence from actually deciding to get rid of Wipeout, ToT and HWSW. The rides have had a good lifespan and put them out to pasture. I don't even think they need to build anything right away to replace them although they do need another attraction by late 2019/early 2020 after iRide. I think they could even get away with a basic wild mouse. Family friendly with safe attractions. It is their strength and Village's kind of weakness at the moment.
