  1. I would certainly support that being done at the GC parks, Universal Studios Singapore have been doing it for awhile now.

  2. Depends on how you look at it doesn’t it? They are our biggest parks for sure, but if you add up all the smaller parks in the other states (including Aussie World) then they are very much in the minority. Whilst the GC is the hub for amusement parks in Australia- our Orlando if you will- it’s important to note that the amusement park industry is not just GC centric. Our smaller parks are an important part of the amusement park landscape in Australia, let’s not forget the important part they play as well as the bigger players.

  3. Consider the amount of consistent rain we have had on the northern GC over the past 4 weeks and I am not surprised maintenance has been effected

  4. Not sure how it works at disney, but apparently VRTP staff wont get paid if they close any of their parks as there is something in their contracts that means they dont have to if they shutdown. So its probably a pretty big consideration if/when they close and how long for, the hardships it will cause staff. Youd just be listening to government advisers. They havent closed schools yet for example. 2 weeks, even a month isnt going to make you safe while its still spreading. People are going to keep getting sick even though cricket and footy are closed games. How long does it go on for? Is there a point where the risk is low enough to resume? Because you cant completely remove the threat.. Will it slow progress? I guess thats their point, but how do you stop multiple waves occurring? Do you close parks for 2 weeks anytime there is a positive test from a guest or staff member? This could drag on for months. That chief medical officer was saying it may be mid year before peak is reached .

  5. Dreamworld may be cost cutting by extending some of the rides maintenance schedule because of low crowds from Covid-19 BuzzSaw was meant to reopen on the 7th, then the 11th, then the 13th and now the 16th MDMC was meant to reopen on the 9th, then the 11th, then the 13th and now the 15th Play School Wheel was meant to reopen on the 13th and now the 20th The Rip is meant to reopen now in April

  6. Some people would say the parks are putting money before guests. Some people would say its the same thing DW did when they killed 4 people.

  12. It's not just the flu though. This doesn't have a vaccine, nor does it have treatments like Tamiflu. So the flu has things that mitigate its potential impacts. This doesn't have those backstops, so it has the potential to overwhelm the healthcare system if allowed to spread quickly, which causes indirect deaths because people with all your regular illnesses and injuries can't get access for proper treatment. It's one of those Y2K bug situations. If we take measures to slow its spread, and we avert a spike, then people will say those measures were over the top because it was a fizzer.

  15. Disagree. You only need the screen for the parade is just a terribly designed ‘parade’ that is mostly show at daily planet. We’ve seen at white Christmas how a properly designed parade has no ‘feature point’ and the screen wasn’t needed at all. Opening up the facade would make for a much more attractive street and I hope it is removed. As for comments about the other screen and old tech and difficulty about connecting to it. I think that’s saying more about the skills of the people working the recent and less about the screen. It takes a standard 1080p signal over DVI. You can patch any scaler into it to input whatever you like so whoever is saying it’s difficult is telling porkies

  16. The market on the whole has experienced huge losses in recent weeks so that's what we're seeing with Ardent to some extent. Few examples however have been as dramatic as Ardent. They've slashed about two-thirds of their market cap in the past month and they're one of the 'biggest losers' on the ASX in 2020. Inquest findings and growing coronavirus fears obviously play into it but inquest findings are not unforeseen and Ardent's share price losses outpace the rest of the market amid coronavirus uncertainty. Remember too that investors at the time of the accident completely wrote off Dreamworld in share price losses. Ardent also wrote down its book value of Dreamworld to the point where the land is presumably worth more than the entity. Dreamworld's value to investors is strictly in terms of potential, not performance. The half year results were not great. Main Event is floundering in a supposedly flourishing US economy. That business hit a wall several years ago and seems lifeless as ever of late. Dreamworld saw a 2.9% attendance growth off the back of Sky Voyager and a concerted effort at special events. That kind of negligible growth from historic lows following major investment and a more focused marketing strategy than we've seen in years is a big red flag and I wouldn't be so quick to say that the park is back on track because they've painted a few things and held some nice events. It looks like there are wider confidence issues surrounding Ardent Leisure. Three years ago a property developer and a corporate raider joined forces, bought up about 10% of Ardent and waged a public war to gain control of the Ardent board. Their pitch was that they knew how to fix Ardent with a three year plan to deliver $1 billion to investors. They got their board seats and now three years on about $700 million in market cap has disappeared. Their own investment in the company has lost them somewhere up near $70 million. On the plus side they've learnt a valuable lesson that just about anyone could have told them: you can't flip a theme park. Anyway that's the short version of the article I would have written in recent weeks if I had the time/inclination. Just throw in a bit more sarcasm and some big words.
