  3. I'm not going to weigh in on the debate about if the parks should close or not, but I was at MW today and they most certainly DID have hand sanitizer spread throughout the park, and at the exit of each ride. I did see them regularly cleaning the rides every 30 mins as well. - I''ve seen the comments on their FB page about no santizer... Those people need to get their eye sight checked because it was literally everywhere. The park was extraordinarily quiet today too, the worst I have ever seen. Every ride ( that was open) was walk on and they were regularly needing to send empty trains around so there weren't "stacking issues" on scooby. There would of been lucky to even be 500 people there today to be honest.

  4. We are all very quick to bash one part of the argument however not once has anyone considered the position that closing puts on a workforce of over 3000 employees across all the parks on the Gold Coast? Not to mention the businesses the parks engage to provide contracted or supplemental services. Might be a good reason why these businesses are considering the information, applying logistical and operational measures before simply just closing their doors. I'm sure its easy for some of us to jump on here and provide our thoughts but it might not necessarily impact all of us financially.

  8. I say bravo, what an improvement to the streetscape. There is certainly attention being put back into the aesthetics of Main Street. The flags have returned, Daily Planet has returned (Seems as though its getting a new colour scheme also) plus i noticed on my last visit some of the windows have received new curtains and dressings.

  9. Ban on gatherings of 500 people applies to outdoor events. Indoor events are now banned over 100 people. ScoMo mentioned this even applied to churches etc... Essential services are not subject to the ban, and include public transport stations, airports, hospitals etc. Total travel ban level 4 (do not travel) has now been applied worldwide - first time this has happened. Other restrictions apply to aged care facilities. I now look forward to hearing from our gold coast parks how even these measures do not apply to them. I'm also looking forward to hearing from several parkz members about how this is just more media beatup and overkill. (its more fun to quote them a few days later when they're proven wrong).

  10. why should they close just yet, no cases have been linked to the park, people are canceling flights yet airlines still continue to operate no one is screaming at the airlines/airports to close, public transport still running how do you social distance here, how often will these seats and handrails be cleaned? Local pub probably has the same amount of people there in confined spaces on a Friday night as a daytime show at an Aussie theme park, the government have said its still fine to go the cinema? again maybe smaller numbers but very confined space, lets also not forget so far its only raging waters that has closed and it was due to close for the season in a few weeks anyways, so its not just Goldcoast parks still open, If your worried or don't want to go don't go, no one forces anyone to go if there open, maybe you live 8 hours away and been planning this holiday for years, some are grateful their open just like other tourist attractions on the Goldcoast,

  12. I hardly think North Korea would report a COVID-19 case even if they had one (all jokes aside) For those who have been to the DMZ before, I assume it is closed right now because when you go in that room, all it would take is a cough of someone infected & BOOM! North Korea wiped out by the "Booma Remova"

  14. @Brendo88 The comments about no sanitize products was made days ago. People where saying the couldn't find any and MW said they were trying to source some. MW press release stated there was already sanitize products in the park which there wasn't. It's good MW has now fixed the issue.

  15. Do you have examples of this in Australia at present, complete shutdown of a larger scale employer and relief is being provided? Always so cynical... can't just accept that proactive measures have been put in place and those who have visited the parks have stated this to be correct?

  16. What about Singapore they're being heralded as handling it the best and Universal Studios has managed to stay open?

  17. No doubt that'll be the spin. The PM also announced that in addition to the 100 person ban, all state governments were working on legislation to cover these bans, as well as legislation covering smaller gatherings. I think though, if they specify that an airport is exempt, then they are considering that such a large place would be otherwise subject to the ban, even though it isn't a sit-down two hour affair - so the previous VRTP excuse doesn't wash this time.

  18. Was talking to some staff this morning and they can’t believe the parks are open either. Half the parks are shut, over half of shifts have been cancelled too

  19. Why should they close, when no cases have been linked to the park? Answer: Because they can prevent any cases being linked to the park. No-one is screaming at the airlines to close Answer: Airlines are a necessary service for transporting people and cargo - including essential supplies, medicines, and even doctors who need to be moved to where they are needed most. The advice is restrict unnecessary travel. (And the same applies to public transport). Local pub has the same numbers, and the government said its ok to go to the cinema? Answer: I get it. It's tough when your mouth shoots faster than your brain. Isolate yourself. If everyone just stayed the fuck home for a couple of weeks we'd have a handle on this. It's those who don't give a shit who have caused this to expand exponentially to a point where governments are now requiring businesses to restrict or cease their operations. TL:DR - If assholes like you weren't so fucking selfish, we potentially wouldn't be in this mess that you're now complaining about. We are a global society. Humanity means to care for those of our society who cannot care for themselves. Because everyone deserves to live the best life than they can. Because 20% of those who get this will be hospitalised, but if the 80% don't give a shit, and infect our doctors, and nurses, and medical professionals, there will be nobody to care for the 20%, and instead of a 3% mortality rate we'll be looking at higher than 20%. Go back and look at what happens to society when 20% of the population disappears. A lack of social norm leads to increase in crime - because people can't get toilet paper and food so they break into houses and steal it, and get so desperate that if you try to stop them breaking into your house they hit you over the head with a shovel. You'll give a shit then - when there is no ambulance to pick you up. You'll give a shit then when the life slowly ebbs from your worthless body, and your sphincter relaxes for the final time, and 99% of the contents of the sack of shit that is Hiisi will escape through your colon. Then, you will have given a shit.

  20. While our major Parks remain open right now, I'd expect that will all change within a week. Most likely they are desperate to keep going business as usual, for as long as possible until the Govt can throw them a lifeline.

  22. Its sad that you enjoying seeing a major tourism sector employer going down like this. Right now over 85000 people have been put out of work in creative industry, Tourism is yet to get thier final figure, but that will be in the half a million range in the coming weeks. I don't care that you hate Dreamworld, but I do care that your enjoying the fact the a lot of people will be out of work that feeds their family. Grow up!

  23. I'm planning on heading that way myself later in the year. The current itinerary that i'm working on is as follows: Charlotte, NC - Carowinds (My first visit) - Highlights - Fury 325, Copperhead Strike, Intimidator Pigeon Forge, TN - Dollywood (My first visit) - Highlights - Lightning Rod, Wild Eagle, Thunderhead Orlando, FL - Disney MK, AK, Epcot, HS - Highlights - Expedition Everest (Amazing!) a bit disappointed i'll miss GotG Orlando, FL - Universal IoA, Studios - Highlights - Hulk (Awesome!), Hagrid's, The Mummy (We got stuck on this last time for a few hours) Orlando, FL - Seaworld (My first visit) - Highlights - Kracken, Manta, Mako Tampa, FL - Busch Gardens - Highlights - IRON GWAZI (This will be my entire trip highlight!), Cheetah Hunt, Montu Winter Haven, FL - Legoland (My first visit) Highlight - Lego Atlanta, GE - Six Flags Over Georgia (My first visit) - Highlights - Blue Hawk (Apparently is really good now after the refurb), Superman, Twisted Cyclone I don't drive when in the USA, for personal reasons, so I generally make my way around with Amtrak (Trains) and Greyhound (Buses). It's cheap (Amtrak tickets are as low as $6 one way), but not always at convenient times. For example when I caught the train to Cedar Point it leaves Cleveland at 2am and gets into Sandusky at 4.30am, but only cost me $6. The 2 tricky parks to get to on my trip using Amtrak/Greyhound are Dollywood and Legoland as neither are really serviced well by public transport (It also looks like the shuttle bus between Legoland and Orlando has been ceased as I can no longer find it on their website). Knoxville is closest to Dollywood and it only looks like a $40 Uber (According to the app) so that may be the way to go there. All up (assuming there are not closures) I'll visit 12 parks with a total of 73 coasters. Having already been to some of the parks though my coaster count will only go up by about 50. I'll be over there for about 4 weeks and it is actually not costing as much as I thought, at the moment i'm looking at about $7,500 for the lot. My biggest tip would be to check the parks opening days and times first. I'm planning on a later trip (Sept-Oct) so many of the parks are beginning to wind down for the winter, Six Flags will only be open on weekends, Legoland is closed on Wednesdays, Dollywood closes on Tuesday and Thursdays etc. etc. I would also recommend checking to see which parks are owned by the same company as @colonelbmx said as it is sometimes cheaper to buy a season pass to parks rather than individual tickets, when I did my first USA trip we bought Six Flags ($69.99 for SP vs. $38.00 - $73.00 for a day ticket depending on how you book) and Cedar Fair ($129.00 vs. $49.99 for a day ticket). As we visited a number of parks across both chains and visited for a number of days each we got so much more value buying the season passes. My biggest Disney tip as a former cast member is: When you first enter head to the RIGHT and go past Tomorrowland then start making your way around the park in an anticlockwise direction finishing up in Tomorrowland. You tend to find when people first enter Disneyland (Any of them) they tend to head to the left and move around the park clockwise OR head straight to Space Mountain. The best time to hit the biggest attractions (Space Mountain, BTRR, PotC, Splash Mountain) is during parades/fireworks/lightshows.

  24. Agreed, for all intents and purposes, "delays at ports" and "increased inspections" are really just two sides of the same coin. I dunno why you would split hairs over the difference. It's a weird hill to die on. Even if the coaster track isn't undergoing increased inspections and gets waved through, its still stuck in line behind the stuff that is?

  25. Well done MW! Now please give that facade some love - after decades covered, I can still see the brick slot just above the Planet where Lasers projected for those once epic parade's/light shows. All the same, this is such a great improvement.. Please keep it up!
