  2. They've ruined the character of the place by adding non ghetto, quality, permanent install rides.

  4. So including the 9 new rides, LPS will once its all been built, have 19 rides and attractions to offer , including 4 coasters of varying levels for the entire family. The Intamin single rail will be a world first coaster type and the worlds first single rail double launched coaster. Its a custom layout which is brilliant. This will certainly make LPS a very attractive place to visit and with it being just across the harbour under the bridge is the gateway to Sydney and every foreign visitor that travels to Australia( when they eventually return) Also, apart from Luna Park Melbourne, this will be the only permanent place in Australia where you can ride at night. This will be awesome- cannot wait to take on this ride in both day and night rides. This is so much better than what were were hoping could be installed at the park-this is brilliant. Here is the official FAQ- it seems to have been pretty well thought out and appears to cover anything that may arise. What is important to note is that this is all being installed with the government's blessing and is protected by the legisaltion that covers the park.

  5. That makes seven coasters for my next Australia trip. When the world goes back to normal I'm expecting to have to travel to Sydney on business. I look forward to that :)

  7. Also. Australia has too many Gyro Swings. Please eliminate three. I am not a crackpot.

  8. Holy crap, good work LPS, very happy to see this! Overall a good layout, particularly towards the end, i would have liked to have seen them spice up the bit between the first and 2nd launch, eg slightly more aggressive hills, and a wavy launch track as seen on Pantheon. The 2nd largest coaster appears to be a Gerstlauer family shuttle coaster, and there also appears to be a clone of Klein Tsar / Veggie Tales Sideshow Spin: Good choices all around!

  9. Being an ex theme park ride operator for Village, I can confirm the training that we received is second to none when it comes to handling these situations. A good amount of training for each ride is actually spent going through the various disabilities and rider requirements to ensure things are done safely. This is on-top of regular training and refresher courses that they have provided. Please never be afraid or embarrassed to speak to Guest Services when arriving to discuss your needs and work out a game plan for how to enjoy your day the most. If your a regular as well they will often have your information on file so that when visiting you can just quickly pop in and grab a wristband that advises the ride operators what rides are suitable or not for your individual needs. The supervisors will do all the work so that the ride operators just have to have a quick look at the wristband to confirm things and just run through a few specific questions related to the individual ride instead of asking the many questions GS will ask. They are actually not meant to allow admission onto a ride without the wristband from Guest Services giving the all clear. And yes we are given the heads up most of the time so that we can make sure your day is as seamless as possible.

  10. Just in case its ever needed. Accessibility files for the parks. This seems like as good a place as any to put them. 11. Honestly i'm surprised nobody has in the 30-40 years of parks on the coast. The glitter strip is gaudy, meter maids in skimpy gold bikinis etc etc, and as you say - its a little tacky, but its a great fit. If you consider that the white water world theme is okker \ bogan aussie - thongs and aussie slang and so on, it isn't that big of a stretch for the Big Cyclinder.

  13. Okay. So I've had some time to take in all this news, and I think I'm ready to give my thoughts in a calm and civilised manner. Ahem..... OHMYGODTHISISTHEBESTTHINGEVERTHATSEVERHAPPENEDTOTHEPARKINWAYOVERADECADEANDALLMYDREAMSANDFANTASISESANDVISIONSABOUTTHEFUTUREOFTHEPARKARECOMINGTRUEITSTOOEXCITINGICANTSTANDITAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So naturally I'm very pleased with today's news. I was already very happy after the 2020 Transport Heritage Grants had been announced (the Sydney Tramway Museum, which I volunteer at, got two grants; one to finish off restoration on our 1898 D class tram, the other to digitise our archives), but this is just the icing on top! And just a side note that no one's mentioned yet, the concept art has the facade for the dodgems redone so that it fits the Arabian look of Big Dipper building. This just makes me even more thrilled as this is exactly what I wanted to see happen to the dodgems entrance for the last 3 years. Next year's gonna be great!

  14. OMG! Where do I begin. Since Wonderland closed, Sydney hasn't had a major coaster. I can't believe a park in Sydney is bringing the first Single Rail coaster to Australia. 2021 will be the best year for theme parks in Australia. This announcement secures a booming post - Covid tourism market for NSW. Ranger going was sad but this weighs out all of this. Lets look at these rides: 6 new kids rides: from the image it looks like a a family boomerang and a loop layout coaster A massive pendulem ride The holy grail, a new single rail coaster which is named the big dipper ( again )

  15. I'm excited, but I don't like the sound of "Luna Land". I'd rather they just keep it as Maloney's Corner.

  16. I've been on Gipfelsturmer back in 2018 https://www.parkz.com.au/parks/DE/Ruhpolding/Freizeitpark_Ruhpolding/ride/4157-Gipfelstrmer It's actually slightly wild for a family coaster, very forceful first turn and transitions. I thought it was better than a regular roller-skater of Roadrunners ilk.

  17. Here's an existing model with a similar layout to the one seen in the picture It's very similar to a family boomerang though and for what it is its a good quality ride for the families.

  18. Wizard's fury isn't a single rail coaster as it is neither a coaster, nor is it single rail. The Bayern Kurve is classed as a flat ride, the train is constantly driven as it always has contact with at least one of the traction wheel devices (although i'm sure that would make an interesting debate!) Weren't we just discussing last week how they were all travellers plonked down ? err, no I didn't... Meanwhile - here's an Australian park going with a world first instead of cloning the status quo... who'da thought? I'm not familiar with the gerstlauer shuttle - i got very excited it could have been a vekoma family boomer. bugger.

  19. I JUMPED when I read the news... props to Luna Park for keeping it under wraps (unless I'm just completely oblivious lol). I'm so excited to see the changes!

  20. The world's first single launch roller coaster? Single Rail launched roller coaster! Also, Intamin, not Intermin. I want to go easy on them, and I know I'm being pedantic here, but this is a big claim to fame so the record details should be correct. I'm excited all the same.

  21. Hi @Ranger. I've been fairly lucky to have worked in a few theme parks. I understand how annoying it is for you and also embarrassing that you'd want to do what everyone else does without the fuss. Parks do not actually set out the rider guidelines. It is done by the manufacture. Having said that tho some operators (dry or water parks) may have had scenarios occur before that they either want to avoid or have had issue with before. As in your example about the tube floating and making it slightly difficult for you to enter. I understand you would know your ability a there knows exactly what is best for you. Operators are just concerned about slips and trips normally. It is not personal. The big companies that operate here in AUS all do sensitivity training for such instances. I can recommend you should always attend guest services at any park you attend. Double-check with them what you can and can't do. I know you might be worried about doing this but I am about to give you some inside advice. The second you do this the ride supervisor is informed of the guest. Normally once you leave guest services, They usually make an announcement via phone or Two-way informing all staff that the possibility of a guest with special needs is in the park. Its a heads up and ensures the workers are prepared and reminds them about the sensitivity training they would have undertaken. I hope this helps a little. We all want to enjoy the same recreational activities. Happy riding.

  23. I cannot believe this. LPS really is the little park that could. Finally, we get the same attention and treatment at the parks up north. This is going to be great. The expanded lineup is welcomed after years of having the same stuff pretty much. As a Sydney sider, I hold a special spot for LPS. Well done to the management team for securing these deals and making this all become a reality.

  24. Yep. Big Dipper is going to be one heck of a little coaster, it should easily be the best roller coaster in the country outside the Gold Coast, even then, better than most of what’s on offer up there, probably only behind Leviathan and DCR in terms of thrill. A truly elite offering out of nowhere I’d never have expected from management. Combined with heaps of new flats. Gyro swings are not everyone’s cup of tea but I don’t mind them. Kids area offers a lot for the family compared to how it used to be. Vekoma Family Boomerang is a great touch also. This is really indeed an excellent set of changes that has taken nearly 10 years to get through. These rides combined with Volare, Hair Raiser, Tango Train, Rotor, Wild Mouse being kept should be an awesome use of the plot.

  25. So somewhat on topic. Many years ago (Well before YouTube) I remember downloading a roller coaster video of various roller coasters in the USA, predominantly Florida parks and Cedar Point, that was a combination of on and off ride footage. The soundtrack to the video was Vertigo by U2. Normally I despise U2 but for the video the song seemed to work and certainly when I visited and rode the roller coasters in the video I had the song stuck in my head.

  26. I have looked at this, but as the old adage goes, what goes up, must come down. The incline in the other direction would be from billabong, via tiger island, back to central station. As I undersand it, the grade is gentler than the new proposed route, but steeper than that of the Blue Lagoon loop. I'm no train buff, so i'm not sure whether it would work or not. I'm really hoping that they have actually brought in some rail professionals to advise them on the re-routing, that they've done the math on the grades involved so that they can continue to run the train. It'd be a significant loss to the park's kinetic energy if they go to all this trouble and find the train can't make it up. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

  27. Have a loading point like on Supertubes at WWW or the Breakers at RWS. A short belt that pushes rafts in. Many manufacturers offer this as an option. IMO if i had a park i'd make it the standard on anything involving a raft.

  28. Thanks for these photos. Im surprised at the size of the new Atlantis area. I didn't realise how much reclaimed land they took for this new area. I remember back years ago they wanted to make that a "Wild life" area with lots of non ocean animals. Hard to think the corkscrew was in the tiny pocket to the right of the jet rescue and the pirate ship
