  1. Here is an interesting post that Warwick Doughty, Director of Luna Park Sydney , posted in response to a question about the Big Dipper trains and their generic look. As most of us suspected, the choice of trains was limited to financial constraints by the park to design custom trains. Since this is a first install of this ride type, I get that this must have been part of the deal with Intamin and overall I can live with it. Its good to see that there will be theming and decals to be added to the trains in the coming months that will at least give some local park flavour and uniqueness to the trains and the ride itself.

  2. Ridiculous that WWF is down until mid December. If it needed the best part of 6 months downtime for the new restraints they should have planned it to be down May - October

  6. The mock up has people under the coaster but the backstage area is still gated off. The stairs from Glen St to Maloney's Corner were meant to reopen around the middle of this year according to the sign on them which would suggest the walking under the coaster part is true (Though the stair reopening won't happen while the park is hard gated like it more than likely will be upon reopening). While it would be good to make the park more open and connected, I doubt they would want to lose some of the little backstage area they have.

  7. New art courtesy of ExperienceOz, appears to be the real train with superimposed background. A new TVC is out too featuring pass options and ST/Spring Event and the spinning car. Very well done.

  8. Same Arrow chassis underneath with an updated fibreglass shell, speakers (lol) and new restraints that are modern spec. It's also probably the nostalgia talking but the OG Cyclone trains were kickass, especially when the red lighting ran. Speaking of trains, back on-topic, can't wait to see these trains with the zero-car attached to the front. The paint scheme on this Helix-style Mack trains is looking super badass in the light of day.

  9. Thanks for replying Jobe and thanks for all the information. I enjoyed reading your response and it was helpful. Yeah it is a shame it never ran its always going to be one of those weird moments where they built it but nothing really happened. It is a shame, oh well maybe one day we will see some sort of mountain coaster attraction or Apline coaster which would be cool.

  10. Chinese tourists would love an alpine coaster, have you seen the one at the Great Wall? But that would actually be perfect, but I would like if was like the one in Germany with airtime hills. Twin track model would be great, and to be honest that is probably a better fit for the vibe of the park. Or keep it as a single track but charge more.

  11. I can't see an alpine coaster having the capacity that a ride at Scenic World would need. That place gets seriously busy.

  12. I have no doubt that this is the case, but it's really disappointing. It devalues the overall product and getting frustrating when you combine this penny pinching with increased costs to visit the parks.

  13. I'm going to speculate here. The reason we're not seeing 3d signage any more is because of the difficulty and effort in adhering to the guidelines of double-fixing. I remember when I was reading through the coroner report for the RTRR and in it, engineers were pointing out fixings in the ride with single fixing points and that they should be addressed. You can see such an example in the new sign in the image above, there's the chain holding the sign as originally but also there's now an additional wire as backup. The incident DaptoFunlandGuy described at Wonderland is why. Something actually occurred, it was risk-assessed and now probably every insurance company for theme parks in Aus is going to require double-fixings or they'll have to pay additional premiums. When you've got a 3d manufactured sign, how do you guarantee double wired fixings for each element stuck on the front without making it look like trash? Sure, you can glue/screw/bolt but a bean counter in insurance land somewhere will probably say not good enough. There comes a point where a standard printed sign does the job well enough and is not worth the effort in fighting the bureaucrats.
