  1. Wasn’t sure if I should create a new thread or not so I’ll just put it here. But trident is on site. It’s great to finally see some progress. Seeing as though they haven’t started the foundation yet it might be a bit till it goes vertical. Thanks to themeparkqueen_au on Instagram.

  2. I'm just gonna keep it simple and say a flyer. The ride experience is unique enough to anything else in the country that it would be worth travelling to experience it. Putting aside the enthusiast element, the general public aren't going to recognise much of a difference in one sit-down ride to another, except if it goes upside down or not - but a flyer - you can tell straight away how different it is to anything else we already have.

  3. The main boxes I'd like to tick. -RMC (Enough said) -B&M Wing Rider or Dive Machine or Flyer (Their other models except for the Invert are too pedestrian, but these three are very unique, graceful and have wide guest appeal) Wing Rider because the train looks so unique and the inversions and near misses are cool. Dive machine for similar reasons, but it would need to be the 7 seat version like the one at SFFT Flyer, enough said. -S&S FreeSpin (A Full sized 4D is too expensive) Other things I wouldn't mind at some point. -Larger Spinning coaster from Mack or Gerstlauer (Not a Reverchon) -A Multi dimension family coaster with drop tracks, turntables, reverse sections etc. -One of the newer Vekoma loopers. Previously I would have said an RMC Raptor, but we're getting Big Dipper and I think that'll be a more polished ride.

  4. So let me understand what you're saying – you think it's okay to steal something you haven't because it's "likely" to be inferior? Wow. Just wow.

  5. Diet Steel Taipan. But yeah, Australia has had several launch coasters built in the past few years (And 2 new ones this year haha), and there's not a whole lot else they can do other than having a better layout (But i can tell you now everyone will love Steel Taipan) We need other stuff.

  6. I love everything about this idea except this. The costs of registration should be going to the charitable organisation. The fundraising should be an option, but it shouldn't be required. Operational costs should be met by the sponsors. If a family of 5 decides to join - they've all paid between $100-170 total to participate, and in turn they've got to find an additional $100 to squeeze out of friends and family? Are they not allowed to participate if they don't meet their fundraising goal? do they get their registration fee back? Sounds less like a fun run and more like a fund run.

  7. Covid safety information is fine. It's how you present it. The VRTP app is a requirement of entry but it isn't 'keeping queensland safe' - the QLD covid safety app is doing that and is also a requirement for entry so the VRTP app is no longer a 'safety' thing its a 'cost' thing. But that isn't my issue. The Sea World marquee - the entrance portal through which families can go on their magical escape into another world... isn't even used anymore (for most guests). Instead, passholders (the vast majority of visitors) are directed through a dingy little side entrance and funneled past a shitty greenscreen, all the while holding up the flow of guests trying to enter the park to make a buck, before finally greeting guests with a turnstile arrangement made up of mobile wheeled portable scanning devices. Dreamworld, Movie World, Wet N Wild, even White Water World - all of these parks take you in the front door. THIS is the type of memory I have of Sea World - almost every person I know who has visited Sea World at some point in it's life has this style of shot. Now this is what you get instead: It's busy, its messy, it's clearly not being used for its original purpose based on all the temporary barriers and cables and shit run everywhere. The front entrance plaza needs a solid redevelopment - and right now, it needs it more than it needs a skyflyer.

  14. I am going to throw my 2 bits in here. 100% agree that the Flyer would make probably the biggest impact. These are fairly rare credits overseas in any case and to have one here in Australia would be an absolute game changer. I think we are all thinking B&M here but what would people think if we had the new Vekoma Flyer? Not sure of the cost difference but this might be an easier way for our parks to gain a flyer? FLY at Phantasialand looks fantastic but part of that is the incredible theming which an installation here is not going to have. If it proves economically cheaper then perhaps that would prove the more feasible option. B&M Wing Coaster- again I think this would have a greater visual just like a flyer- its uniqueness would be a huge selling point. Dive Coaster- Not my personal favourite -I find them a bit of a one trick pony- but I get that the public would be enraptured by one and they provide such a strong visual aesthetic. Definitely would be a good option. Inverted Coaster- this provides the similar connundrum as to the flyer model- which to choose between a B&M or a new Vekoma Suspended Thrill model. Personally I would love to see a B&M invert here- Montu at Busch Gardens Tampa remains one of my favourite coasters of all time- however, once again if it came down to economics, then the new Vekoma models do look the goods. RMC-I think that a ground built new RMC should be on the cards as Dreamworld's next major coaster. One of our parks should get one in the coming years. Their installations have been almost universally praised and any park that recieved one would indelibly stamp their presence on the world stage. I think a large Spinning coaster from either Mack, Gerstlauer would be an excellent addition to any of our parks and would fill a need for a coaster that still has plenty of thrills but would also be a great family ride. I am not putting into this category the Mack extreme spinner- I feel that would be better served as a thrill offering than what the other spinners would do. One of them would definitely be an excellent addition though. Other than Scooby, we really do not have a decent indoor coaster and I think if the parks could fit one in, it would be met with positiveness from the public- think something like The Mummy or Escape from Gringotts from Universal. Absolutely the same for me. I dont wish to see an RMC Raptor now we are getting Big Dipper but my reasons are a little more selfish- I enjoy the excluvisity of LPS having the only single rail In Australia. Interesting that you think it will be a more polished ride than a Raptor- on what criteria do you think that this will be the case?

  15. If you think there’s an interesting story about this being delayed amid a global pandemic that has delayed virtually every other attraction on the planet then I’m all ears. I personally don’t think the narrative is anywhere near as compelling as Sky Voyager’s delays amid years of mismanagement and a botched recovery plan, but each to their own. I genuinely encourage any of you to write such a piece and send it through if you think it’s of interest — I’d be more than happy to publish a well written piece on the subject. Given that @TimmyG and @Tinter were both previously banned from this site I’m not too surprised that they are back with the same tired ‘Parkz is biased’ stuff. One created fake accounts to cause trouble, lied about it repeatedly when asked and ultimately got themselves banned only to create a whole fake persona to rejoin and lie to me yet again about who they were. The other just seems to enjoy disrupting this community for fun. They’re also both behind the Golden Years Facebook page but that’s neither here nor there in their banning, though it does provide context and likely motives for their undermining behaviour. Neither have reached out to apologise, clarify or justify their past actions. At some point it’s just plain harassment though and I’ll reiterate that it’s not something we are entertaining anymore.

  18. Yeah you are correct here- the Xmas Lights Spectactular always sees huge crowds and is what gave me the impetus for the idea in the first place. Its probably never going to be a fully fledged theme park in reality, however, the region itself is diversifying and offering attractions and events that are quite popular. The winerys are looking for other attractions and events to keep the tourism dollar pumping into the region and concerts and events have been steadily growing in patronage and scope over the last 10- 15 years. Last August, a new $107 million dollar new out door concert ampitheatre with 22,000 capacity has been announced and is currently being built. The scope also includes a 100 bed hotel and specialist food and beverage dinining options. This is extremely close to the HVG site and will join the Mecure Hotel situated next door to the HVG and also the Crown Plaza resort in the area that is nice and close- adding in amusement park attractions to enhance an already popular attraction such as the HVG seems like a feasible thing to do. As for screams and noise, the site is well enough contained on its own entirety to remove that as an issue for mine. Here is the details for the new investment- sitting very close to the HVG site which can only help the broader appeal and visitiation of the surrounding attractions. https://themusicnetwork.com/cedar-mill-hunter-valley-venue/ The HVG is already a gated cost structure. They also have acquired over the last 3 years a permanent Ferris Wheel, a Wave Swinger, a Giant slide and several other smaller kiddie rides that are located in the back area. These are extra cost to the gated admission but if they were to go down the route and offer several more rides and attractions, then I feel that a wristband option would not be an unreasonable way of looking at pricing. As the park grows organically and the amusement section becomes just as big a drawcard as the Gardens itself, it could perhaps change to an all inclusive gated pricing structure. Wow. Well I did want to generate some discussion. Thanks at least for posting. As @DaptoFunlandGuy has already answered above quite eloquently, Wonderland's closure and sale were not for reasons of "failure"- there were a myriad of events that led to its demise and none of them could really be linked or overlaid on the success or failure of a new venture such as this. As for your other mind boggling statement regarding the rides choices chosen- well of course they are my picks and my opinions on what I think would work. However , to not call them brand names or rides that any sane person opening a theme park would buy, is one of the more preposterous statements I have ever seen on Parkz, if I am honest. Which of these ride manufacturers have you not heard of? Zamperla? Zierer? KMG? Fabbri? Technical Park? All of these manufacturers are VERY well known within the amusement industry and all of the examples of the rides chosen have multiple units located within amusement parks across the globe- with the exception of the Zamperla Gryphon- which as a new concept has not had an install yet. Remember I also put in very large type the word "Hypothetical" but I feel for added realism that any new regional park couldnt offer Intamin or B&M or any other top tier manufacturer immediately. However , I feel the rides chosen would make for a compelling offer for any park to open with. Yeah you are quite right here mate- I think that the natural evolution of the place is ripe for this sort of organic expansion. To add all this in one go is not something that will likely occur but the fact that the HVG already have sourced and installed a small collection of permanent rides such as the aforementioned WaveSwinger, Ferris Wheel and Giant Slide means they are looking at diversifying and enhancing their existing attractions. In 10 years they could quite reasonably have a decent collection and could become an nice , well themed regional park. For a brand new theme park this is absolutely the way to go and I think is the best case and site for NSW to receive a fully fledged , ground up and purpose built theme park. 100% agree here mate- I too have long thought that this site is very conducive for a future theme park. Its right on the M1 an hour in between NSW's 2 biggest cities with the Central Coast at its doorstep- in terms of population reach you cannot get any better. The Australian Reptile Park next door has shown that an attraction like this can survive at this location and if a theme park was located next door , then the 2 attractions definitely offer a compelling reason to visit for NSW residents. It has a lot going for it.

  19. Did you have stoke? You've no idea the particular set of circumstances that lead to Wonderland's demise. First of all, recall that the park operated for close to 20 years. Hardly a failure - at least for the first 15. Furthermore, with that attitude, why should anyone ever think about building a park anywhere? Someone get in the time machine and tell Uncle Walt not to bother - he's got zero chance. The only park that has zero chance is the one that isn't built. What is wrong with the manufacturers mentioned? they are quite well known names in the industry. They're not top-tier, but a regional park trying to grow can't pick top tier manufacturers or they'll go broke before they've seen a return on investment. Personally, I think a single expansion, going from current state to all of that mentioned above is ambitious and fraught with very high risk - however an organic expansion, adding a new ride every season or two based on available funds, increase visitation and marketing would be a way to go and in 10 years or so maybe you've built something worthy of a destination, or at the very least a detour. As for being realistic @pazzap - you're the one that wants to keep a maintenance nightmare, and remove a just-refurbished coaster, or spend more money reprofiling it simply because it isn't to your taste. If you're going to insist that people's proposals be realistic - perhaps you could start with your own.

  20. This says they've been working with Dreamworld and VRTP for the last two years - i'm not seeing why (if these guys are hot shit) leviathan would be delayed for these reasons? this seems to be a perfect explanation as to why engineering safety signoffs aren't the issue.

  21. Yall hating on the path but I think its great, atleast they did something other than a plain path, and give that a few months of wear and grit and i think it'll actually look good with a bit of fade. The area is shaping up to look really good in my opinion especially for DW standards.

  25. It's funny because every year my wife and I go to HVG for the Christmas Lights I always say they should put a coaster in. It would go gang busters even if they brought in a travelling model like a spinning wild mouse for the Christmas period. That being said, I don't think they're in the right location to be a fully fledged theme park. The area is known for it's winerys and quiet getaways in a tranquil area. Putting a bunch of screaming people in the middle of it all is not what I'd personally see being received well by the local businesses. The place is miles away from major public transport. Newcastle (Williamtown) is the closest major airport and it's limited in where you can fly from here. Locally, Cessnock isn't exactly known for its citizens being awash with money. However, the Christmas Light Spectacular draws in major crowds every year with tour busses from Sydney etc so it stands to reason if they get it right it might work. It's pretty easy to get to from Sydney if you wanted to make the trip up (M1 then Hunter Expressway). We've been to HVG during the day outside of the Christmas period and the place is a ghost town, maybe a few thrill rides will keep attendance chugging along. I've often thought that Old Sydney Town would be a great location for a theme park. It has the reptile park next door, is situated almost halfway between Sydney and Newcastle and is straight off the M1 and close to the train line (Gosford). Disappointingly it appears as though it's going to be housing.

  28. I actually see it as much worse than watching a rip-off copy of a Hollywood blockbuster. I can't imagine he's going to sell more than a few hundred copies at best; a RMC documentary is of niche interest after all. Personally I'd like to see him making a reasonable profit that he can then invest back into producing other material of interest to theme park enthusiasts.

  29. Someone needs to buy all the land near Western Sydney airport and stop all the land going into housing developments, for the theme parks that will go in will have to be a Disneyland with Galaxy's Edge, Avengers Campus, Pandora of Avatar, make similar lands to what is in Disneyland and Disneyworld already, make the park be Californian themed, classic Disney themed and put some Australian theming in. Also include a Disneyland resort. The second theme park that would have to come in would have to be a Universal Studios with Harry Potter world with Hogwarts and Diagon Alley, Jurassic World themed area, King Kong themed area, the mummy themed area, transformers themed area and so on. The alternative should be a six flags park with lots of thrill rollercoasters like the parks in the US. If a park wants to survive it needs decent roller coasters, decent thrill rides, no putt putt golf, no overly sized kids areas with crappy rides like many theme parks in Australia do.
