  1. Lots happening on the Station and new track earthworks today. I noticed the old cariages on the track on the other side of steal taipan near old stage area.

  2. I have unfortunately had to leave my job due to not being vaccinated. No I didn’t work at Dreamworld and no I don’t blame them since it’s a government decision but yes a lot of people have lost their livelihood due to the tyrannical government mandating potential poison.

  3. Village, Dreamworld and Luna Park are all doing a huge amount of hiring at the moment. I'd imagine it's got nothing to do with non-vax lay-offs, but that their accountants have given the greenlight to allocate more funds to resources now that there is more confidence in the tourism sector with international travel reopening, vaccine rates rising and national borders being relaxed.

  4. The choice seemed to be either listening to unsourced misinformation and eventually earn yourself a Herman Cain Award or simply get vaccinated and most folks picked the latter. Let’s keep it on topic now. Covid chat can go in the Covid thread.

  6. Ground has broken on the new additions to the Big Banana’s waterpark expansion. It also appears that work has started on the Plantation Coaster - Australia’s first ever Alpine coaster installation. This is great news and it would not be unreasonable to see a late January opening for the new slide complex and kids play area at the water park. The Alpine Coaster is due sometime next year.

  7. Some bits of the blue train are still sitting under the coaster and is not on the track yet, unlikely we see a return to testing until next week potentially at this point in time

  8. I mean even if it's only 10% of staff, that would blow a huge hole in their rosters. I'm sure they would have been hiring anyway, but you have to bury your head in the sand pretty deep to imply that it isn't a huge factor in their hiring right now.

  9. Yeah, even Magic Eye at Erding is over double the length. Mammoth at Holiday World is over 500m But the worlds longest is 1,111m long!

  10. Source? Statistically speaking, since we just recently reached 80% single dose as a state, the chances are less than 20% of their workforce will be impacted - and industries where vax is mandated tend to have a higher rate of vax take-up. So I find this doubtful, and given the majority of the positions are listed as max term casual, I find it more likely the recruitment drive is predominantly a christmas peak season push. Nice try though.

  12. Should definitely open before our borders fully open in 17th dec, so I guess Saturday 4 December so steel taipan can get 2 weeks of use so to iron out any problems that turn up before crowds start getting bigger.

  13. I'm not saying it isn't 'A' factor, just not 'THE' factor, and certainly not a 'huge' one. Everyone is hiring for the season. Confidence has improved with things opening up and dates firming up. Everyone 80%+ is getting ready to try doing more normal things again. Few people volunteer to leave a job right before christmas, so the timing is going to be an impact, but the hiring of xmas staff (who do meet the requirements) means they just hire a few more in the mix, and can choose from a wide selection to replace those they lost. They were about to do bulk recruitment and bulk training anyway, what's a few more people in the room? I think 10% is being extraordinarily generous. The uptick in vax rates post-announcement suggests the current states include a lot of 'hesitaters' rather than outright objectors. For those who weren't early adopters, there was no real reason to go out and get it - until 9 November. Now there is a reason. The park (and many other employers) will lose a few strong objectors, but most people who have jobs will choose a paycheck, and if the park loses more than 2-3% i'll be very surprised. Circling back to the crux of this line of discussion, I disagree that the park is 'about to stand down a lot of people' or 'have a heap of roles to fill' because of the vax restrictions. I suppose it depends on what you consider 'a lot' or 'a heap'.

  14. The only one I’m looking forward to is Kaboom. The other too are just a faster River Rapids and a new Speed Coaster (without the uphill). It’s great they’ve added new attractions like these to fill the void, but I wish they were taller/longer

  15. I've seen that before. What a horrible bloody slide though. Absolutely boring. This is a place so preoccupied with whether or not they could they didn't stop to consider whether they should. And they shouldn't.

  16. The slides they're building aren't even long. That's one of my biggest disappointments with them

  19. Unless you can find a way to shoehorn a Disney animated character into it, from a ride perspective it won’t happen.

  21. The Wild Mouse is indeed having some are-tracking work taking place. It's also having some pretty serious work conducted to its support structure. It's all standard work tho.

  22. It's down to a handful of track segments now. The train has been winched out of the station and is up in the maintenance position. Really cool how much the reverse spiral on steel taipan stands out now

  23. It’s very interesting. I think there is more interest in WHERE this ride will go than the actual ride itself! At the end of the day , we can only trust the info we have received. I have now heard it from 2 sources but until it’s announced officially, there is always going to be that sliver of doubt. Even though the ride is a massive one trick pony, I am glad that it appears to be staying in Australia and the positive implications this has for the industry as a whole. This means that some regional park will be gaining a quantum leap in ride offering. Be it Gumbuya, Funfields, Adventure Park or even LPM, this is a pretty savvy purchase and it’s mere presence at any of these parks will generate positive public perception.

  25. Agree with this. If it were discriminatory - something someone couldn't help about themselves, but not getting vaxxed is a choice, and those choices come with consequences. You can't have your cake and eat it too. No doubt - i feel more safe knowing unvaccinated folks will be excluded from the theme parks, and I for one will be more inclined to visit regularly knowing those restrictions are in force.

  26. I'm not interested in the covid vaccine debate in terms of choice - but it's a choice. As a vaccinated person you are just as likely to get covid from a vaccinated person than from a non-vaccinated. You are mingling with unvaxxed people every day now, and will be until the 17th. In my opinion its a giant crock of shit. You are all entitled to your opinions, i respect them, but i personally disagree with segregating society and moving backwards as a state.
