  1. It wouldn’t be an enthusiast forum is we weren’t all debating the validity of a parks decisions with zero confirmation that they’ve actually made them 😛

  2. Do carnival ride operators just put random movie names on their rides and hope for the best? Reminds me of this:

  3. Here's the layout of the double boomerangs based on the ones at Wildpark Emmen. So you probably could snake a custom invert around the rest, and even have a station fly through. I don't think you'd be able to do the standard SFC layout threaded through, would need to be custom. The following is just speculative, there's of course heaps of land behind scooby if you wanted to do a really long layout.

  4. Probably one that was shown to the staff, but I wouldn’t necessarily trust it. I saw an original artist impression for the wet n Wild expansion/new tower and what we ended up with looked nothing like the original imagery that weren’t ever published online.

  5. Is that really a good reason? Just re-theme it, then it wont look old. Busch literally recycled the station for Big Bad Wolf into Verbolten and also an old Monorail station became the station for Cheetah Hunt. SFMM are reusing the Green Lantern station for their new RMC Raptor.

  6. Yes all hail the DW Schnitzel, its probably the best deal at any park but agree the coleslaw needs more dressing.

  7. well when you have 4 staff checking the restraints, trains leaving the station as the other one reaches the break run and 60 people being lined up to be loaded at one time, the lines are going to be significantly shorter. If they used Rivals Loading Procedure (slow dispatches, loading up the gates when the train arrives in station), the line would be over double the amount of time then it currently is. When it moved to one train the wait ended up being around 25mins which just proves the line only moves so fast due to their two train procedures

  8. Tom and Jerry theme would work for the dueling boomerang. Probably ends up two face themed.

  9. They need to demolish Speedys and replace it with a couple of new kids flats and maybe one central general family flat. They've gotten rid of Tazs bumper cars and put in that calming space, they've gotten rid of pounce and bounce, and of course the Marvin Maggot has been gone for years, so the kids zone is pretty threadbare imo. And it would be such a cheap bit of capital too!

  10. What artist impressions? I would love if MW was catfishing us. 🤣

  11. By the look of the artist impressions, the Suspended Family Coaster will be the 450 model, the same as Dragonflier at Dollywood.

  12. benefits? like i said - a lot of other things to consider nighttime at movie world can have parades, WNW has movies, Sea World has light shows in the lake - you could offer these on alternate days to encourage repeat visitation (I know we hopped between DLC and DCA on alternate days to catch the early opens \ late closes \ alternating nighttime entertainment) In our summer, many folks would prefer the cooler evening to visit rather than the heat of the day. it potentially captures people who wouldn't have otherwise visited. (I know we personally would visit the parks during summer if they had late opens - as a matter of fact the last time i visited between Xmas and Australia Day was for a WnW movie night) You can sell flashy crap because its dark. If you lose the second day visitor to the night time visit, then thats capacity for the park on other days, but you haven't 'lost' anything if they've done two in one day and bought meals at both. This isn't adding labour, work hours or anything else other than minor considerations for nighttime operations, its just moving the workday to a different slot. Doesn't have to be permanent, and every park can share the load and take turns on it. Doesn't even have to be every day - can just be 'select days'.. Finally because why not?

  13. 100% spot on. Did just build Rivals and Green Lantern? Rivals opened in late 2017- nearly 4 years ago and Green Lantern in 2011-approx 11 years ago. They have hardly just been built........ 100% spot on again. This is really disappointing.... Sorry but completely dumb decision...... Sorry I disagree entirely here- that is a load of poppycock. Just because AA has been SBNO for an extended period of time is ANYONE going to be thinking that. People still remember AA and what ride it was- an intense inverted and thrilling coaster. Its still in plain view for all to see. Once it is torn down and replaced with 3 "family" coasters then there will be angst , mark my words. It will be a general feeling of being underwhelmed thats for sure. However if Movieworld's plans included the STC Vekoma model then the GP would see a direct replacement for AA and 2 NEW family coasters- much better than what was there before. As it stands, the plans are extremely underwhelming and are a completely missed opportunity..... Absolutely hit the nail on the head here spot on yet again. Great comment and I 100% agree with everything you have stated here mate. Sums it up very well.... Yeah you got it. Like Gazza I thought it was the Vekoma STC model and this would very much be able to compete with ST as a response. Now....well Dreamworld can breathe a little easier as these plans do nothing to reach the same level of impact that Steel Taipan has had. Dreamworld would be smiling at this news i reckon- it gives them time to follow up ST with another attraction of the same impact.

  14. Sorry but how is it pretty clear from your first response that you were talking about the Gold Coast being disrupted by staff shortages? You would need an Allan key Brad to unlock that sentiment from that post or you might as well be in another timezone trying to communicate. Sarcastic replies like your first one , whilst sometimes funny do not convey anything other than that- sarcasm. Longer term members like me and @DaptoFunlandGuy realise you support extended Summer hours and we wholeheartedly agree but most of the time the sarcasm is lost on newer members. Sometimes its just not needed as well.

  15. They also said DW had a full carpark and 2-3 hour waits. They only said 1 train on taipan when it was quiet. Perhaps MW is jammed because they only have one train all day due to maintenance problems and seats locked out, and so they can't clear the queue to get a quiet afternoon because they don't have spare capacity whereas Dreamworld does have spare capacity? We can spitball all we want. It ISN'T as busy as a usual summer. Covid AND weather are playing that part.

  16. honestly its not a horrible plan around the holiday periods. All the Disney parks vary their hours by the day, and usually the sister parks alternate - Disneyland and California Adventure for example each take turns. We've long discussed how the coast parks lack a full day experience so why not open say - Sea World at 9 and run until 4, open Movie World at 12 and run until say 8? Run some shuttle buses between the parks, or do something similar with MW and WnW - open MW early, close early and party on at WnW during the hot summer period, with dive in movies and all slides operating into the night? Does THAT sound like a well thought out plan?

  17. I dont think the maintenance bay has electrical contacts no.

  18. The other half of JDS is used as maintenance storage, and since LTRR was removed the park has aquired a load of new assets that don't like the weather so much. I don't see them losing that space to attractions unless a big shed gets built elsewhere on the property.... and why bother? You don't think they can reduce operations requirements to run on less staff during the quiet times? Rollercoasters designed for 3-5 operators can technically function on 1-3 with the right doubling of duties and bypasses of enabling consoles. Any park the world over who has had unexpected maintenance issues right before or in the middle of their peak trade sometimes has no other option. We've seen the trains in maintenance bays in pieces for months. We saw rivals cobbled together before christmas with numerous rows out of service. Somethings up in maintenance land and I get the impression they've tried to service as many seats as they can, but it wasn't enough. Don't the capacitors get charged every time they enter the station though? And wouldn't the maintenance bay have similar charging facilities?

  19. The reset mechanism motor uses supercapacitors that need charging.

  22. MDMC’s second train is currently in the storage area and pretty sure the original train got replaced as well as it looks bright and brand new Also, vintage cars is back to 5-6 cars instead of 3 and are utilising all 3 stop lights (2 in station before the load / unload area and 1 in the usual spot before the station) don’t know how long it has been like this but just thought i’d update

  25. It’s a family duelling boomerang and a family suspended. No inversions. Really you are replacing nothing with family attractions. AA has been SBNO for long enough that the GP are not thinking “they are replacing this with that” but that you are adding 3 new rides

  26. It’s not being covidsafe, it’s the fact that there are a heap of staff in isolation waiting on results or having Covid

  27. It's a sad day when the ginger factory family ride is better than MW family ride offerings.
    1 point
  28. I mean they did just build rivals and green lantern as thrill coasters that didn’t replace existing rides. So they could still remove AA to replace with family rides.

  29. Movie World need to add more family friendly attractions. Unless they propose to do so. In which case they suck and they should have got a bigger thrill coaster.

  30. Serious? Sorry mate I consider that a fairly ill informed comment. There are loads of examples of just how good the new generation of Vekoma coasters actually are. Think Lech coaster , think Abyssus , think the new STC at Tripsdrill , think the numerous new Vekomas opened or opening in China. They are producing some great rides and they are definitely cheaper than B&M’s. Realistically this I great bang for buck and is a great move for the park. Other thank LPS, name another Australian park which has opened 3 coasters all at once? And these will be full sized coasters…… B&M’s are great rides but they have been discussed on these forums ad nauseum on why an Australian park will likely never get one… I would take 3 new coasters like these over one B&M for a park like Movieworld…this is a great move. Also who says that the coaster will not be inverting? Surely this will be the duelling family boomerang model and the STC model similar to the setup at Tripsdrill?

  31. Well could also be (now this is purely speculation mind you) that you have a trained supervisor go down with covid scare, and you don’t have anyone else trained in that role available to fill the shift.

  35. Went and checked out the new area this morning. The area is a great addition to the park and has really made this area of the park much more popular. It’s great that the kids get to play in the splash area while the adults/older kids get to go on the rides. The area seems to no longer be referred to as Extreme H2O Zone, as all references to it have been removed. They have also updated the directional signage. The whole area has been really nicely done. The facilities are good and there is plenty of good seat/grassed areas. It amazes me that they didn’t make Kaboom and Double Barrel have their own queues from the beginning. I can’t believe they thought having both rides share the one queue was going to work and now they’ve had to do a temporary solution. The Fast Track queue is now in a seperate location, closer to the splashdowns. Kaboom was at least a 30 minute wait while Double Barrel had no queue. Double Barrel are alright. They are good for parents with their kids, but I’ve done them once and probably wont do them again. Super Ripper was the surprise for me. A lot more fun than I expected and it really picks up some speed. Would happily ride them over and over. Kaboom was also really good. Has a good variety of elements, gets good speed and has decent thrill. The loading was interesting (as someone has already mentioned). The staff are fully harnessed up, but there isn’t a gate for guests. And because of that they are really anal about how you board into tube and they have this panicked look the entries time. The first drop is good, but it’s a shame you loose so much speed at the very top. The clear slide pieces are a real nice touch. And they allow the tube to pick up some good speed again, but is lost as soon as you get to the top of the uphills. Overall great additions for the park and makes it feel more complete.
