  1. There's a fun fact I used to enjoy back at the day at SW. For those that don't know/remember, Corkscrew and Pirate ship were a good 200 meter walk from the next closest thing. When Pirate Ship was closed, Corkscrew was busier as people would reride it more. When Corkscrew was closed, Pirate Ship was dead. I think about that a lot with ride popularity. Imagine what Doomsday's ridership would be if it was build within Superman's heilex? Vortex ridership numbers equally suck, but it'll be very interesting to see what happens when there's a critical mass of rides nearby; will ridership as a percentage of park guests go up or stay the same? Smart money would suggest it'll go up. I have no doubt that Buzzsaw would have seen an uptick in popularity when ST opened. I doubt it would have ever been hugely popular, but people do tend to go to an area of a park and hit all the rides in that area together. If there's no draw to go to an area and stop there, people won't ride the filler. It's pretty much as simple as that. That'll do for today's episode of guest ride popularity phsycology. In next week's episode I'll discuss why I think GD's ridership is quite low aside from its location, and why lower ridership on GD specifically is not actually a problem that needs fixing, and explain why Motocoaster being the most popular ride in the park does not make it good.

  2. BuzzSaw obviously had its issue while at DW, but part of its removal was the lack in popularity. This lack began shortly after river rapids because there was nothing else in what became a very small pocket within the park. If they had kept it; with steel taipan now open, do people think it would’ve been more popular? Maybe they could have spent some money properly fixing it and giving it a refurb to match the new aesthetic ST has. And maybe then it might have been more popular again. In saying all that, it didn’t happen and I think it’s a fantastic addition for Gumbuya.

  3. Ok I’ll double down and say FOREIGN TRADE AND MATERIAL SHORTAGE and Shipping Delays of the crap the above things make. Exactly what theming type equipment is made in Australia? Hint, the answer is zero and just because my zero will get pedantically contradicted… the answer is more like 0.05% of it.

  4. GL is what you go on when the queue for Superman or Rivals is too long. With GD it's got to do with what @New display name said, it's poop your pants scary. It's an event during the day. There is always someone in the group who is too scared to ride it, or someone who got talked onto going on it who didn't want to. The group will go on it once, and that'll be it for the day, once is satisfying with that ride. because once for most people is enough. Ride wise it's the closest thing to Bungy jumping, and few people want to do another bungry jump straight after doing one. What it does though is it creates fun memories and stories 'Mark was too scared to go on it, but Rachel went on it anyway' or 'I got dragged on it and OMFG soooo scary!' That sort of thing is huge when people judge what the ride collection of a park is like. When someone asks what park has the scariest rides, GD helps DWs word of mouth. It doesn't matter that it's not got a huge ridership, a lot of people are just never going to ride it, the fact it's there (and visible af) is enough. Yes I think having other stuff around it makes a lot of sense, and it would see an increase in riders if you did, but it would be foolish to say something like 'GD has low ridership, should we think about selling it to Gumbuya?'

  5. @themagicianI don't know if this happened with Buzzsaw. River rapids was a family ride & Buzzsaw is far from a family ride. Families who rode the River rapids are unlikely to jump on Buzzsaw. Because it makes people poop their pants. GD has to be one of the most intimidating ride to get on. The real questions on everybody’s lips, if I ride the Skyloop coaster at Gumbuya World and I have previous ridden it at DW is it a new credit?

  7. For what its worth I totally get why someone says Rivals/Superman is better (The powerful launch and airtime on Superman might be preferable to inversions) But I wouldn’t think that preferring those things makes Steel Taipan a bad ride. I did think it was odd to bring up the glasses rule in a topic about a new coaster.

  8. Mate - being honest, i don't think you've offended anyone. I personally find use of 'credit' a bit cringe, but horses for courses. I think the main controversy is that you've expressed an opinion that doesn't ring true to most folks here and they've taken you to task on it. You note the sunglasses rule while talking about how poor you felt Taipan was, without noting it applies to pretty much every park in the country. You note the operations - but most folks here have been pretty vocal about Rivals being run pretty thin (and superman too) and i've timed all three running at above 5 minute cycles even with 4 operators. Just curious - when did you visit Dreamworld? It sounds like an off peak timeslot where even with two ops you can still fit everything in in a day... (and given you ended up at Movie World to observe the Rivals operations, it sounds like you did) Further - what was closed at Movie World when you visited? In addition to Superman, it sounds like West would have been down - was anything else down? (maybe Green Lantern - it seems to be down every other day...) With Superman and West down, it sounds like staffing Rivals efficiently was the least that they could do. How many other coasters were down at Dreamworld?

  9. @joz i think it was because I was stood in there. A wife said what’s down there, the husband said, it’s a garden. The wife said, oh that looks nicely done. Then they moved on. And someone else walked past, saw me and heard them also said to their partner, that’s a nice garden. So I’d say it was purely because I was in there, otherwise they probably wouldn’t have noticed.
