  1. I'm not the person to really complain about roller coasters being rough, it's part of the experience on some rides. However Ghostrider did something strange to my back two days before (mind you I love that ride but I rode it just before it closed for it's retrack) and Desperado did the same thing to me on the first drop. IMO it isn't worth the drive out there, only worth it if driving to Vegas or LA.

I did read after riding it though it is recommended to sit somewhere in the middle, front or back will destroy you... which I was in the front. I just assumed it would give a similar ride to Magnum 2000 at CP.

  2. OH NO! You didn't get to ride Desperado!? Lucky you.  I made the mistake when driving to Vegas from LA to stop in and give it a go. Absolutely horrible. Give me a SLC over that any day.

I'm a little shocked for you Gaz that this is your first trip to Vegas.

  3. I've been nearly every month of the year. August surprisingly wasn't that bad. There was one day where it was a little too much but that day doesn't compare to the park on New Years Eve (which I recommend doing... only once though).

Longest I had to wait for rides was probably an hour which was for Splash Mountain. Naturally stand by for Cars was 3 hours but that is where fast pass and single rider comes in for that particular ride. Most rides had an average stand by time of 30 minutes on the signs but took quicker to get through.

I enjoyed the atmosphere of the park in summer over the other months to be honest.

  4. Please stop focusing on the quote "injuries incompatible with life" this is an extremely common phrase used in the emergency services and simply means nothing could have been done to save the victims. Usually an instant death or unrepairable damage to vital organs.

Today is truly a sad day for everyone but more so for the families, staff and emergency services involved. I am a little disgusted and disappointed with some of the things some people have said here today.

  5. Sorry if I sound rude, but why did you spend so long at Cedar Point?

You could have done so much, visit Detroit, visit Cleveland, drive to Niagara Falls on your way to Toronto, spend some extra time in Toronto. Would of had heaps of time to drive or fly to Chicago as well. Without all the info you could have possibly done those things though.

Leviathan is amazing in my opinion, and not rough at all. Wonderland is great for a Canadian park, I mean just look at what they have. PNE Playland (exception of the woodie), it is very lack luster. My old local park, Calaway Park in Calgary is just a joke. Galaxyland in West Edmonton Mall definitely has a cool factor but it generally doesn't feel safe, especially riding Mindbender backwards! I can't comment on La Ronde as I never got the chance to visit. As for the other small parks, they are just small and child friendly parks (like Calaway). Wonderland IMO is a great park and considering Canada shares a similar population with us it is definitely a step above what our parks are currently offering.

However it is great to see more people on these forums having the ability to get out there and visit more parks!

they will run it on slow speeds for a while than gradually ramp it up. doesn't mean it's unbalanced. the motor and gears are all brand new they need to slowly wear them in.

Yeah my thoughts exactly Blade. Lots of moving parts on these, you would assume there would be a 'break in' procedure... surely? Even if it's just to ensure all the gears have seated properly.

  7. The original House of Horrors was still a top notch attraction IMO. Since it was a permanent walk through it definitely had better detail than their mazes for Halloween.

A nice welcomed changed though and I am all for refreshing it every few years instead of eliminating the attraction all together.

Lets just hope it doesn't have it's usual 3 hour wait like the Halloween Horror Nights version, ha.

Thanks Clayton! Just please credit the original source, share a link to a report, etc. Even give us your thoughts on the topic maybe, after all it is a forum.

  8. Managed to pop into Lake Dolores Waterpark on my last trip. As most people are aware there isn't much left of it, just holes in the ground and buildings degrading. No pictures though, felt sketchy enough being in there let alone spending time and snapping pics.

@Theme Park Girl My partner and I were lucky on our visit to Knotts and  bumped into Adam at the front gates waiting for it to open. He was nice enough to do a quick ride on Sierra Sidewinder with us.

Check out The Proper People on youtube as well. They've done Six Flags, but they explore a lot of abandoned places and the production level of their video's is pretty cool.

  9. I haven't had any break downs or evacs in the Aussie parks, but a few in the states.

Breakdown and evac on California Screamin'. Stuck half way up the first hill, they apparently tried resetting a few times and eventually evacuated us after 15, 20 minutes. Given a pass to skip the line for any other ride in the park. Interestingly the ride never opened for the rest of the day and the train sat in the same spot.

Breakdown on Peter Pans Flight in the scene flying over the city. Stuck 15 minutes, completed ride with lights on. Were told to come back to the disabled entrance at a later time. Copped a lot of flak from other guests when we did it.

Breakdown on Space Mountain in second last brake run. Had to wait for staff to come and manually release the brakes and push us. Offered to ride again when we entered the station. Pictures of the incident are on the ride database.

Had a huge log jam on Splash Mountain once. Bigger than normal, not sure what happened.

Not a break down, but Mr Potato Head dropping his ear. Always a laugh when it happens as he just stands there staring into nothing.

As cool as a breakdown and lights on for Disney rides are, it can also be a bit disappointing to see somethings just aren't that 'magical'. All my breakdowns are obviously Disney.

Watching them add on another train onto the ride while operating the ride at the same time.

Yup it's the standard. That is when the ride is actually running. Don't know many times I've been stuck on that ride or just missed out boarding it. Positive is I got to experience a roll back once

Happy that CP have added this ride. It was much needed for them to hold onto their "Roller Coaster Capital of the World" title IMO. Maverick and Millennium Force is still where my heart is though. Now if only RMC can get their hands on Mean Streak.

  11. Flights currently on sale - Sydney to LA with Air Canada from $760 including tax. The sale is for dates between October 17 to November 24. Flight Centre is advertising the prices from $734, however in typical Flight Centre style the nearest I can get to that price is $820 excluding agents fees.

At these prices I feel a week trip is coming on. Hello Ghost rider and Joker.

  12. Unfortunately we will more than likely be cutting the trip a little shorter now due to time restraints with work and study. The partner has a workshop in D.C she wants to attend so we will end up spending a 2 weeks on the east cost and probably just do a trip to Hong Kong and Shanghai.

All the help and advice given was very appreciated. Anymore advice or news would be great if people posted it here so it could be a "go to" thread for anyone planning trips to Asia.

  13. Thanks for the heads up.

As stated we have both spent a lot of time in Singapore on different occasions, we are only really using Singapore as a lay over and to check out the new additions at USS.

I haven't really sat down and looked hard at it so I was unaware of the train from Tokyo to Osaka, so a huge thanks for that advice. Steel Dragon ^_^

I've heard Fuji-Q in the past has had poor park management, closing a lot of rides down in mist, closing INDOOR rides in rain, and when they are open, have very slow load and unload times. I'll be happy to be wrong! We will definitely be spending lots of time in Disneyland Japan. Both of us are Disney park freaks and spend at least 4 days at Anaheim every time we go, so it was natural for us to be spending a decent time there.

  14. Since having a break from travel this year, my partner and I are starting to plan our trip for next year.

After living in North America for the last two years we have decided not to go for another US trip but instead head over and do some parts of Asia.

    So a rough itinerary includes:

    • Singapore for a day to do Universal studios - been to Singapore before
    • Fly to Hong Kong, meet up with our friend and do Disney, Oceanpark and explore a bit of Hong Kong
    • Catch a train from Hong Kong to Shanghai and do Disneyland and Happy Valley Shanghai
    • Catch a train from Shanghai to Beijing and do Great Wall of China, Happy Valley Beijing, Beijing Shijingshan Amusement Park and check out Olympic Park
    • Flight to Tokyo to Disneyland, Disneysea, Fuji-Q, explore Tokyo
    • Drive to Osaka and Universal Studios
    • Fly back to Sydney

Our friend from Hong Kong has recommended to do Beijing Shijingshan Amusement Park just to see how dodgy the park is and c'mon fake Disneyland!

So not sure if anyone has visited any of these places, if so please give me some recommendations on time to spend at certain places, things I have missed and times of the year to avoid. I have been told these parts of the world never really have quiet times, and to avoid April all together. Throw that together with the rumored poor operations it will be an interesting trip.
