    Disney contemplating smaller regional parks...

    Dilluting the brand... again. Great.
  2. It's great to know there are others out there that share the same amount of Disney geekdom as me.
  3. That doco has it all pretty wrong I'm afraid - none of that is true, according to the numerous books I have read anyway. Bigglesworth is right. The frozen Walt story is an urban myth.

    Jim's trip to Queensland

Nice reports, thanks. The negatives haven't really made me want to rush up there anytime soon but that will probably change once new rides open...
  5. They want to build another park in Shanghai as well? Diluting the Disney name, way to go Eisner!
  6. Thanks for letting us know.

    Impressions of Tokyo Disney Resort

Nope I haven't been to DLP, would love to get there one day but I want to get back to Florida Disney first. I think I will probably head to Europe in a few years.
  8. Firstly let me say Japan is an amazing country, the culture, the people, the sights, all of it. Every day offered up varied and great experiences, I highly recommend a visit if you haven't yet been. Anyway, onto why we're all here Rather than write a detailed TR for each day I spent at the Disney parks in Tokyo I thought I'd instead write an overall summary of my experiences... I recently travelled for 3 months around Asia & was lucky enough to spend 3 days at the Tokyo Disney parks, April 11-13. Unfortunately each day was rainy (a couple days the rain was off & on so it wasn't too bad) which was great for the crowds (absolutely zero lines) but it did affect the shows & general atmosphere of the whole place, it was quite lonely at times. I still had an excellent time, but at times it was a little difficult to get into the spirit of things when you're wet/cold. I spent 2 days at Disneyland & 1 day at DisneySea. I was going to parkhop on my last day, but it's a bit of a hike between parks & they make you pay for use of the monorail which is a bit lame, so instead I spent my final day at Disneyland doing things I hadn't done previously on account of the rain. (I'd also totally conquered DisneySea in 1 day so there wasn't really much reason to go back). You have to specify which park you will go to on your first 2 days, you are only allowed to parkhop on your final day which suited me fine but seemed a little odd. Disneyland is a great park, pretty much what you'd expect, nothing all that different to other magic kingdoms, yet still a great park. Their version of Winnie the Pooh is absolutely amazing, so much better than the Anaheim version. My first ride I was blown away (& subsequent re-rides as well). Unfortunately Space Mountain was closed for refurbs when I was there so I was unable to get that credit, but everything else was open. Despite the crowds, Disney still went to great efforts, with parades & fireworks when it wasn't raining - overall an exceptional park! DisneySea is a weird yet awesome park, incredibly themed but a little lacking in content (that will change once TOT & Raging Spirits open). Its hard to believe the detail that's gone into theming the park, at times you really feel you're in another world. If the weather was fine I could've spent alot of time just wandering around enjoying the themeing/atmosphere but since it was raining I had to generally rush from ride to ride which was a bit of a shame. For me the best ride was Journey To The Centre of the Earth - a mixture of dark & thrill ride with a cool amount of air-time in the high speed section. I spent a full 12 hours at the park, with many re-rides & exploration when the weather held off. Overall I had a thoroughly enjoyable 3 days at the Tokyo Disney parks, I would definitely plan a future visit once the 2 new rides at DisneySea open. If you have any questions feel free... I also have hundreds of photos so I will probably post a few up sometime soon if people want to see any?
  9. I don't, I reckon it's one of the weaker Disney parks...

    Favourite Park

Disneyland, Anaheim will always hold first place for me. It was the first park I ever went to as a 3 year old, & I continue to go back every few years .
  11. Here's one taken by me on April 12 (last week)... ps, TR's to come sometime soon when I have the energy.

    "Disney standard" theming

That's the beauty of the Berm at Disneyland, it hides all the ugly show buildings just outside the parks perimetre. The first drop near the start of POTC is to get you down underneath the Disney railway line, taking you into the main show building, which sits outside the berm. You used to be able to see the show building from the car park but that has changed since DCA opened. Similar story with the Haunted Mansion, the elevator takes you down so that you can go under the railway line out to the back of the park.

    Los Angeles

SFMM is a fun park, however it's operations are pretty poor, it can be quite dirty and lines can be very slow moving on a busy day. On a quiet day it's quite bearable and I'd recommend a visit there to see if you like it yourself. Some people hate it, others love it. It just depends how much crap you can put up with. However you could skip SFMM and go to Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey while you are in the New York area. I'm not exactly sure how long it would take to get there from NY but I don't think it would be too long. Anyone know? Yep, the only way to experience Disney parks is to be staying close by. I wouldn't do it any other way.

    Los Angeles

I spent a couple of weeks at LA area parks last August. It really depends what type of park you are more interested in as to where you should go. I am far more into the themed experience so, for me, Disney parks are always the number 1 parks to attend. I would recommend at least 3 days at Disneyland/DCA. (you could get by with 2 depending on crowds) Universal Studios is a nice park but you'll find that it's not really a "full day park" (unless you hit a really crowded day). Its still a great park with some cool rides & excellent Tram Tour. In past years I have always enjoyed myself at Knotts, however, last visit I found it to be quite lacking in cleanliness & staff attitude. (again not really a "full day park"). They have some great rides (I would be more inclined to go now that Silver Bullet is open) but I found by 3pm I was done with pretty much everything there was to see/do, unless you want to re-ride the coasters over & over. SFMM has some excellent coasters, but park management/operations are pretty bad. If you are a coaster geek I would definitely recommend going there, you can easily fill in a whole day there. So really it comes down to your personal preferance. If you can, try to go to all of them. You should do at least 2 days at Disneyland/DCA, then you should be fine with just 1 day at the rest of the parks.

    Disney Rides

I suggest you do some research Disneyland Paris is adding new rides in the coming year/s. And, as joz said, other Disney parks are constantly looking at/adding new rides... http://laughingplace.com/default.asp?WCI=M...resh=0122171156 http://www.westcoaster.net/community/index...showtopic=12824

    Port Macquarie

Yeah the Rock hasn't been Leyland Brothers World for quite a long time now. Most of the grounds are used for the Aussie bush kids camp thing. Fantasy Glades? Did they have actual Disney stuff in the park, or imitations? I'm confused. I'd never heard of it until now.

Just watched it, nice work. It's a shame about the over-exposure but it's still a great video nonetheless.

    Movie World Trip Review

Nice TR so far, cool pic! Look forward to hearing more
  19. I remember going there when I was a kid. The dragon coaster was pretty tame now that I think about it, but I loved it back then.

    Disney Studios

Nice TR man, thanks alot. Yeah it was me who wanted to know what Phantom Manor is like. I'm a huge Haunted Mansion fan & wanted to know how different the Phantom Manor is to the other park's versions, but I guess if you haven't been on any of the others it's hard to compare. Anyway glad to hear you had a great day!

Well sorry Mr Maturity, tell us what we should be watching instead, Four Corners perhaps? I watch/like South Park & I am 24, guess I'm immature as well.

    Im going to Disneyland!

Yeah I've been doing some research, will definitely have to maximise Fast Pass usage . Scott, very nice TR, glad you enjoyed yourself. Nighttime is my favourite time at Disney parks as well. It's too bad about Phantom Manor tho, the Haunted Mansions are probably my favourtite attractions at Disney parks.

    Im going to Disneyland!

I echo everything Richard has said, please don't go to a Disney park & only ride the rides. Sure they are fantastic, and the theming is phenomenal, but there is so much more to a Disney park than just the rides. It's about the whole experience, even people watching whilst soaking up the atmosphere is a great way to pass some time if you get tired. Don't hurry, rushing from ride to ride, take time to enjoy your surrounds. You'll find the day so much more enjoyable if you do. And above all do not dismiss a ride as "too kiddy" (Rich said this as well), you'll find alot of the dark rides to be so much fun. Oh & tell me all abut the Phantom Manor, I'm dying to ride it, as I've heard the story is quite different to the other Disney park versions (Haunted Mansion). There's no other parks that compare to the Disney experience so enjoy it! ps, I am going to Tokyo Disney Resort in about 4 months. *excited* I'm such a Disney geek...
