  1. If you're referring to the one being built right behind AOS, it's been referred to several times on the forums already. It's Sound Stage 9, which is being built to accommodate events during the commonwealth games. This also probably didn't need it's own thread and could have been asked in the random \ off topic topic.
  2. I've never seen a park use canvas to shield demolition... but i don't see what you're talking about...
  3. If it were western themed, one could suggest the 'hammers' were 'diggers' ( @OceanGirl's kids would love it!) that were doing some dastardly work in the wild west... But as we've obliterated the western theme, and we're definitely sticking with DC Villains, I'd say the trench is for the footings (footers? the debate continues) for the ride. Looking at pictures of other twin hammers, the base of the ride would need to withstand some pretty gnarly forces - so a big hole will be filled by a big column. (Ok, I really couldn't think of a better term to keep the double entendre going.... @Slick any ideas?)
  4. 9 days? With all these "memerships" ? Guarantee the thing will run for almost a month, peak days only. (thu, fri, sat, sun kinda thing)
  5. I'm liking what i'm seeing here, but i'll agree - this looks more permanent than temporary, and i'm with Slick on the same - the Island is actually a really good idea - it's close to the tiger facilities, it could be constructed without impeding any current guest experience, and it would be like entering another 'world'... rather than this random habitat in the middle of their thrill zone...
  6. Yep - seeing the actual Oz Zoo enclosure I realise my memory was poor. I remembered the height of the glass, but didn't even realise the mesh \ whatever was there on those. The handlers do take the tigers on walks through the park, and for special groups - two guys, both with chain in hand. I realise with a full park it's much different, and you wouldn't want to startle them, but i do hope they find some way to still demonstrate \ show \ view the tigers whilst their home is being renovated.
  7. For a 10-15 minute keeper talk, i think it'd be ok. They probably aren't using it for that, but given the tigers are such a big drawcard at the park, are they planning on not showing them at all during the 9 month downtime? Seems like a no-brainer to try and bring them out so people can still experience \ see them. Can't do a full show in an enclosure like that, but you could exhibit some behaviours relatively safely - so long as there was a safe path for the keepers to take them to back of house, I don't see why not.
  8. I was going (badly) off memory of this image, but my memory of Australia Zoo's enclosure is that the walls don't appear to be much higher that what we're seeing at DW - although again its my bad memory. Sure the walls in the above pic look tall, but the bottom section is water - and they are roughly the same height at land level. TO me these walls (at land level) look about 10 feet, with an inward protrusion. now that i look closely at the DW pic - (the ladder gives a little more scale) it looks to be about 7 or 8 feet tall... so yeah probably "not quite" but one could probably do keeper talks in there for 10-15 minutes - just wouldn't allow them free roam during that time.
  9. I would have thought, given a steam engineer needs suitable experience and qualifications, and a dreamworld ride operator main requirements are breathing and over 18 would mean the engineer would receive some form of 'skilled' pay increase. Sure, I guess when he's driving the diesel it doesn't matter - but on days he operates the steamer, he should be remunerated for the extra care, skill, and let's face it - risk - undertaken by the operator. So in conclusion - either the steam engineer was already on site operating DW X at the time, or the Baldwin didn't enter service until the following day. Either way that answers my questions.
  10. So previously you said it had to be a well themed dark ride in order to claim 'worlds best'. Now that we seem to have gotten through to you that it's a coaster, you now say it has to be a well themed coaster with a dark ride element to be worlds best. Oi vey. I would be interested in a coaster very much thats just a coaster for the sake of vbeing a coaster. As long as some effort is put in to integrate the chosen theme with the surroundings. Green Lantern is a good example of this (which I might add is also a 'movie' theme). Push, you're in the minority. THe park is not setting out to please the minority. They never will. So you're always going to be disappointed. Unfortunately for you - nobody cares... because - well - you're in the minority (and you're annoying and repetitive). I could not have said that any better. Being rude to you is way more fun... besides - it's hard to ignore someone when they keep repeating that same thing over and over and over again.
  11. Remember of course too that this development isn't just a ride, or a building. This is a habitat. They have to be careful that there are no materials used that the tigers are exposed to which could make them sick, so some things may have to be done differently to cater to that. These walls shown in Ninja's picture above - they almost look tall enough to accommodate the adult tigers... possibility?
  12. My understanding was that the diesel had been operating that day and broke down at main street station during operations, not during morning checks. If i'm wrong then fair enough - my logic was that it'd take time to: try and fix DW X realise you won't get it done quickly call the engineer in perform boiler inspection and pre-start checks fire it up shunt DW X off the track and park it bring out the steamer. If i'm wrong, then its obviously no issue (and it isn't if i'm right anyway i'm just curious) but from what i'd heard, the diesel WAS operating during park hours, and then broke down... if thats the case, the 7 dot points above would likely have happened, which is a lot of effort for the park to go to at short notice
  13. No matter what the ride is - or any future one for that matter - it will spread the crowds and for that, we should all be thankful.
  14. ^and Green Lantern continues to stack in the brakes with guests on board... # @Noxegon
  15. I know with a days warning they can - my question goes to the day the diesel broke down, and how they got the steamer fired up so quickly - Surely the engineer isn't on site every day...?
  16. we used to have the sarcasm tags. @Richardcan we have a @skeetafly poll added to the thread for people to vote on whether we should introduce these tags into the forums? I think they would be quite useful.
  17. I'm not so sure thats the best idea - TBH if the old boot hill is going to be DC Villains, I can see a very well put together DC "good guy vs bad guy" stage show being put on in show stage. It would be easy (the universe exists and the backstories are solid) - a solid stunt type show - ala Action Man would fit perfectly. TBH - I hope they DO use Show Stage for this purpose.
  18. I thought the whole purpose of them moving to diesel was so any old ride operator could drive it, thereby eliminating the need to pay a very expensive qualified engineer...?
  19. Regardless of what travels around the country - the ride is still a much needed filler for this park. Filler attractions are by definition - to fill space. they don't all have to be unique one of a kind thrill rides... Seriously guys? We're going to bitch about them not putting in a family attraction when literally the last thing they did in every park was a junior attraction??? Movie World installed Junior Driving School Sea World rebuilt Nickelodeon Land and installed several new rides Wet N Wild installed WnW Jr. We can't expect them to do multiple attractions in the same year. The CapEx budget just doesn't stretch that far. Just goes to show (as we've said here before) it doesn't matter what the parks do - people are always going to find reasons to complain. Do you even read the thread before commenting?
  20. I've seen street vendors selling new cameras if you want them to take photos of the park... they normally come topped with butter, bacon and cheese.
  21. I'm curious though - It sounds like they got the baldwin moving very quickly. I wouldn't have thought they'd need a steam driver on a day they hadn't planned to operate it... how did they get it in service so fast?
  22. Its a cub kindy. the cubs aren't going to stay cubs forever. of course it's temporary.
  23. One hopes that, with the establishment of a super-villain area, and the existence of a super-villain ride (Arkham) already, that they will eventually link the two areas together with a path, precinct or attraction that stretches from showstage, behind scooby to the Arkham courtyard. The 2017 coaster could potentially do just that... I am glad to see MW investing in what sounds like a good quality flat ride - it's what they've been sorely needing for a while now. I'm mildly disappointed that they've again gone with something DC, and make a quick mental note of how stuffed they're going to be if they ever lose the DC license. I'll reserve judgment of the ride and the theme until such time as I see it actually on site, and see how good the ride is, how well the theme is integrated, and whether the popularity of the character in the upcoming film justifies the theme of an entire ride. these characters are all in movies, or will be soon. What's your point?
  24. ^probably more comfortable too - theres more leg room in a shopping trolley.
