  1. Mixing bushland and motorsport is more something generally reserved for Dreamworld and Mick Doohan though Kenny, isn't it?
  2. I am recognising quite a few names in the winners lists each day for the Dreamworld Tickets of Terror (or whatever they're called)... Today's winners include Mr Tony Teulan, and the other day Mr Ben Roach scored himself one too. You'd think they'd just give them to the top 100 posters on Parkz, wouldn't you? lol.
  3. Except to build a second gate closer to the highway that won't have the same issues with residents and noise.... hang on a minute....
  4. It's also something a little closer to the highway for the WOW factor - kind of like what you get when you pass WWW - right up there and IN YOUR FACE. The traditional parks - DW and MW are set so far back from the road that they don't have the same impact... this would aid in their curb appeal.
  5. And like most fans, you will still go. You won't be interested in doing it, but for those that don't go to the parks specifically for the theming, but just for the thrills, it is an additional experience that MW can offer. How do they relate? Movie stunts? Bungee cords are used for stunts all the time. Aerial flips and such are a staple of action movies, especially in martial arts etc. Using bungee cords, and aerial wires achieves this. It might be a tenuous link, but it is one you could make. As for location - how about near intencity? What about main street over by Ricks? Near the carousel in WB Kids? Superman's piazza? You could put it anywhere, it wouldn't really matter. it's not going to get in the way of anything major, and will add value to a day in the park, make money for the park operator, which in turn leads to more money to spend on other things. I personally won't ride it, but i'm for it - it doesn't affect me in the slightest, and costs the park nothing, so i'm not losing anything, and i only stand to gain from it's presence in the park.... wheres the problem?
  6. Hit the nail on the head Gazza. I read this thread from the beginning and everything you said was what i intended on replying with as well. The point is - the income from a lessor is guaranteed. WVTP are guaranteeing to make a certain amount of money from this venture, it doesn't impact on those that DON'T want to ride it, it provides an additional experience in the park to fill out a day... I also don't see this being permanent. Wonderland brought in Bungee tramps for a while, and put them beside the dodgems. It actually made a fair amount of money in the school holiday \ weekends, and the staff actually worked out a good deal for staff-rides during lunch breaks etc. It also worked well for after work drinks... I recall some staff set a record on rotations while drunk after work. I don't see an issue with this at all. It's not at the expense of a better attraction, and it's a filler to capitalise on vacant space to make more money for the next big attraction... bring it on. (from memory, there were more than 7 separate bungee tramp set ups at the ekka this year. Its obviously popular.) Precisely.
  7. Saw a guy selling the potato twist cutter at Eumundi markets a few weeks ago. $14.95 for a big one, small one, and two magic peeling machines also. I suppose there would be a machine that would do the twist cuts a bit faster and easier, so $3.95 is a VERY reasonable price for such a thing, and I think this would make it the cheapest food in the park, would it not?
  8. Just to clarify, it's Joz doing the updates, and not Richard, right?
  9. Well simple face make up wouldn't prevent facial identification... my costume last year was a simple white-all-over foundation, with black circles around the eyes.... it is quite clear (at least without the wig) that it was me... They don't say anything about wigs either...
  10. Ads - In singapore on sentosa island is a park called MegaZip Adventure park. It is on my to-do list for my trip to singapore at the end of the month. The park charges S$29 (29 Singapore dollars = 23.445698 Australian dollars) for a ride on the megazip. They also have a ropes\climbing course and a parachute free-fall simulator From MegaZip Adventure Park website From what I understand, the Zip line at WnW would be 200\250 metres, so 10 or so aussie dollars would be quite reasonable. What WnW lacks in length, they make up for in the splashdown, because megazip has a tunnel netting landing zone. As for paying $10 for a "simple thrill" - may i point out to you both the cost of our major parks ($69+) for a simple thrill. We could also look at the Ekka: Now some of those are arguably hi-tech thrills and could perhaps justify a higher pricetag from running costs, the bungee trampolines are similar in wear and tear etc... I see $10-$15 as quite reasonable for the zip line, with the potential for the price to drop, or for multi-ride packages after the novelty wears off.
  11. I personally vote for any rides which have height, and cause screaming. Block the residents views, and annoy them with noise all night... now that they've won the court case they should push the boundaries.
  12. Randy, haven't you already mentioned the Shrek replacement? as in more than a month ago?
  13. Henson partnered with Disney to produce muppet-vision. I would say Disney isn't going to be selling that sort of thing off to every two-bit park with a 3d projector.
  14. There we are folks... the kiss of death from the master of theme parks (no sarcasm)... Richard you do tend to be on the pulse of the industry - so i'd have to agree with you that its looking unlikely...
  15. It has already been suggested that Journey would be the likely candidate, so unlikely MW will film their own. As I said before though, I'd love Philharmagic... it isn't something I can see Disney on-selling though.
  16. Water rides ARE popular... but moreso in summer with a lull in winter. Does a splash battle have the staying power to be a year-round attraction?
  17. Sounds like someone has done many a dash to the hardware store, pre-show...?
  18. I really think we're getting to the stage where Randy just needs to be ignored. Like Nightshifter, but without a sense of humor. I'd like to see them achieve a 4d experience in the wave pool actually... but I think they might need to content themselves with 3D, considering unlike Shreak and the old theatrette at Sea World, theres no dark room to hide all the special effects in. And yes, Randy did say this about a month ago, then admit he was lying, and chances are the rumor has flown full circle since then and been believed by others, who now state it as fact... who knows? Wouldn't be the first time, however I do think Shrek's time is up - I just hope, since they haven't announced it like they announced everything else for this year, that they don't just stop showing the film one day, and close the roxy until they're ready to develop a new attraction...
  19. If it is true, and it is leaked, this means that WVTP did not want it to be known (hence the term 'leaked'). This sort of information gets shared internally, but until the park is ready to announce it's plans, any 'leaks' spoil the fanfare. If the park finds out where the leak is coming from, and shuts it down, or if they DON'T find where the leak is, and shut down ALL advance notice to those "in the know" it makes life a lot harder to find out other things in future. And no, it isn't good word of mouth press. All we have at this stage is an unfounded rumor saying the park is losing what has been a good capacity, well anchored attraction, and at this stage, nothing is known about any potential replacement. It may be replaced with something substandard, for all we know, and we wouldn't want to see that happen, and yet until we know\see what it will be replaced with, the rumors will fly which will only serve to sling mud at the park for decisions they haven't announced yet. Most PR departments will say any publicity is good publicity, but if you're not ready to announce your plans, leaks make handling the PR a nightmare.q
  20. Another suspiciously well disguised spam account....
  21. it would be sad to see such a well themed attraction leave, but a replacement is needed soon, as nothing about the experience changes, and it's set after the first movie... there's 3 others since then! It would be a shame to lose it - especially as the 4th movie only just came out recently. Journey sounds like a good one. I'd like to see something like Mickey's Philharmagic though - that one is incredible!
  22. Someone has invented a wonderful new SpamBot tool... Oh and apparently free roulette or something too...
  23. Also known as a pulley gazza... On most larger zips - you are correct - detachable pulleys make for a highly increased capacity, as you can launch the next rider as soon as the last rider is off the cable. In Currumbin (which is Adventure Parc - another of which is at mt Tambourine) the Zip lines actually permit up to 2 people at a time, and there is no control by operators (although slightly more safety gear). I would imagine the pulleys would be kept at bottom, and you would pay, and kit-up at the landing zone. It would then be the rider's responsibility to take the equipment to the top of the hill, and since they've paid for it, it would be likely to get used, and therefore returned to the bottom of the hill at the end of the ride. Hiding a simple electro tag in the harness would prevent people from removing this equipment from the park also. I must say, I do like seeing WnW go outside the box on attractions that aren't "waterpark" so to speak. We've had the "wet" now they're bringing in some more "wild".
  24. I imagine they'd get to the top the same way the maintenance crews would if they needed to attend to the headgear for the winches. I'm pretty sure this, like other drop towers has a central core with ladders\stairs etc. Large attractions have been painted in the past. A quick google search reveals a painting company that contracted to paint lethal weapon a few years ago. I read the article some months back - I can't locate it now but it does happen - Sea Viper was also painted recently - a nice bright orange colour. It is huge, and expensive to paint such attractions, but it is sometimes necessary. Although I imagine it would take less time to paint the tower than it would to paint a coaster. My brother is a master painter, and his crew could knock out a single coat on the tower in 2 days. Having said that, its not just slapping a coat of paint on it - it requires preparation - which would also reduce the likelihood of peeling paint as well. The preparation would probably take about a week on something this large.
  25. Good find Jake. I figured something to that effect... I did say fog\snow\bubble....
