  1. From what i know about Intamin systems, this really doesnt sit right with me. I still have my money on operator stops. Not to mention i think people are reading into it a little more than they should. If it keeps up though, who knows, we totally might have another golden call like the fire detecting eye sensors.
  2. No, Giant Drop Will not be included. The Lo-Q hardware systems were (and always would be if installed) too adversely affected by the presence of the drops magnets. Instead Reptar has been included in the list. The devices will be allowed to stay on guests as a 'loose item'. In saying this, each Q-bot comes with a hook to clip on to your belt, and a piece of fabric that will allow it to reach a pocket. Most of the Q4U entrances are now complete. The Claw has had an access gate put in the opposite side to the normal queue, right beside the number 2 operator. The wipeout has had a wooden fence put up around the edge of the queue line near the entry door, and the queue line has been altered to allow a second access. Cyclone, Reptar, Rapids and Log Ride will all use the ride exits as a Q4U entry point. EDIT: Also, must apologise for my earlier remarks about the system being a pay per ride. Obviously misunderstood what i was being told. Pay per rider is what was actually being said. Sorry for the slip up!
  3. Noel is actually a really lovely gent from what i can gather. Im really quite interested to see what direction he takes the parks in. As ive said previously, A nice step up would be really helpful about now.
  4. The SplashCash system at DW/WWW has been in use since about 3 weeks after the park opened, so yeah its been a while. A little more on the Q-bots.. There will be 130 units available daily, and the system will be in use on 8 rides. The system should be completely set up by friday this week, while staff training is happening, ready for a soft run on the 15th and a launch on the 16th.
  5. This last week, With the Giant Drop having motor problems in conjuction with running only one side, and the park being steadily busy (lots of school groups!) queue lines have been getting close to 90mins quite frequently, but at no point in the last 8-10 months have the queue lines for drop been any more than that. I dont think weather is so much of an issue in that respect, If weather looks like it is going to be set in or hanging around for a while and they have to cease operation, and your second operator/DH will head straight down to the ride entry to advise people, while the number 1 operator advises the existing queue line. 3 Hour waits are totally unrealistic. In all my time around the park, I have never seen a 3 hour wait. Never. As much as you may all complain about dreamworlds operating inneficiencies.. if a queue line gets that big, they pull relief operators/supervisors to those rides to assist in moving people.
  6. Its all being kept wrapped up pretty tight, So what ive heard could be wrong.. but its the word on the street.
  7. Very few people know at the moment, give it another week. And Im sure more info will be available. From what I understand, there will be a deposit required for use of the device, which is refunded at the end of the day when you return it, then users will pay per ride, with discounts for families/groups etc. Could be interesting.
  8. I daresay if anything It was noticed on a monitor somewhere by an operator, who in turn would have e-stopped if they saw it as being a risk, or if thats a policy for the operation of that ride. I highly doubt the unclipping of a belt would have actually caused the ride to stop, considering safety belts are generally only there in case the OS/Lap Bar restraint systems somehow fail. You did say the whole ride shut off though, Is it possible it was just a general ride fault which caused the ride to stop? Maybe the stop had nothing to do with the unclipping of a belt what-so-ever. EDIT: And in response to your question about the ride restart.. Im not sure how SE works, but most other intamin rides that I know of require engineering or tech services to come and reset the ride, starting it in Manual operation so that the train/gondola can be moved back to a suitable position to commence operation.
  9. The "shed" has been having extensive work done, the whole area was basically stripped down to the foundations and rebuilt, as it used to be part of the parks warehouse. Im hoping they have done a nice job on the inside, even though the attraction is only small, it would still be nice to see it presented well.
  10. Its the same pricing as the existing V8 Simulators on site. If people are interested in the attraction they will pay to do it, where others wont. I just dont understand why they are installing them, considering the current V8 simulators dont seem to do too well money, or attendance wise.
  11. Im with Joz. Sure its not a great attraction, but at least its something. Its just a shame Dreamworld is following the trend of consistently producing dissapointing attractions that help them just scrape through. Also, its great to see dreamworld admin staff on the forums participating, not just sitting back and watching.
  12. Which day did you go? Wednesday? Wednesday was the horrible rainy day, The only queue line that peaked over 25minutes was tower, purely because of the rain. I was around nick central all day and I can assure you it wasnt busy. Drop was running both sides, only because the staff werent needed anywhere else but had to have hours. I dunno, sounds like you found a bad day.
  13. Im pretty sure christmas day is the only day that all of the parks are actually closed. If youre looking for a nice quiet day to go to a park, Christmas Eve is always quiet, as is the 1-2 days before it. Boxing Day onwards starts to get pretty busy.
  14. There has been a hell of a lot of them around, whoever is doing school group bookings these days is working their butt off! Wipeout is in its usual post-maintenance phase, where nothing works. All of last week it was going too slow to force the gondola to go upside-down, and if it was anything less than a full load the ride seemed to just give up and die, always on the most inconsiderate angle it could manage. But it does this every year, so im not entirely surprised. As for the cyclone... its the cyclone. Enough said really. Were there riders stuck half way up the conveyor?
  15. Personally, Im glad to see it go. Ive been around for the last two Odyssey Events at DW, neither of which were much chop. Trashed people attempting to get on rides, causing mayhem for security, Urinating on any still object particularly shop fronts and sign posts etc., starting huge fights, Its just messy and chaotic. I think dreamworld will do just as well with their own NYE event, and will only have to deal with half the issues.
  16. Sure, they could have done more, but in all honesty I was quite impressed when I went on wednesday (29th), it doesnt look much but the atmosphere was great. I also found Batwing to be running rediculously slow, the queue line was barely around the first corner, and it still took 25 mins to be done with the ride. I didnt even bother waiting the 40mins that It took my friends to get on Superman. Scooby was doing really really well though. No longer than 20mins all night. Overall well done to them. I really enjoyed the park at night, I think it would be cool for them to do a few more night-time events in the year.
  17. BAM! Im getting a little tired of reading the dribble that is continually posted by doc brown. Seriously, tone down the immaturity a little and please dont post for the sake of posting. Im sure im not the only one who is a little annoyed by it. Anyway, if anyone does find out for sure whether they are available on the night, let us know if you get a chance. Theres a group of people from work going, and im not sure what im doing yet so if i dont manage to pre-purchase it would be nice to know.
  18. Technically not, because Disabled guests are usually assessed at the Point of Entry as to their suitability to get on rides. The general condition is that you must be able to get yourself to and from, or in and out of the ride envelope/gondola/raft with minimal to no assistance. This is purely in case of emergencies where the ride has to be evacuated, you must be able to get yourself off of the ride. In general though, park conditions are pretty clear: (from http://dreamworld.com.au/content/drw_2008_...ntryConditions) Edit: A little unclear on disabiities, but the general conditions sort of set it out anyway. And as I said, disabled persons are usually assessed at the gate as they recieve a discounted entry based on their ability to participate on certain things, so its normally not a problem.
  19. There is quite a bit of chatter about this going around. Im with the park on this one, because I know from experience, staff always do their best to accommodate and help in these situations, and nine times out of ten, a solid compromise can be met. As Gazza said it does make it difficult having only one slidey at the top, but they have phones and two ways, they are trained to call for assistance if there are any problems. Pleasing one person isnt worth compromising the safety of people or rides. If it was really that much of an issue for him, Im sure he could have found a way to ride, because many many other people with prosthetic limbs manage to do it without kicking up a stink. Obviously its a bit of a diffult situation, but for him to go to the media crying discrimination, I think is just petty. He needs to grow up, read the terms and conditions of park entry before entering, especially if there might be even the slightest chance of an issue, or ask someone on the way through guest services, thats why they are there.
  20. Great find. This park is looking better and better as time goes on. Edit: Removed Reference to deleted post.
  21. It needs the three weeks its getting for some serious maintenance, Hasnt exactly been running the best lately. A nice makeover would be a lovely addition.
  22. Ive heard so many different things its not funny. There was talk of moving/losing stingray and vortex, possibly moving Reef Diver into the area down near Vintage Cars, extending the Flowrider Recreation area and allowing for the slides to breach across the fence, although still splashing down in the WWW side. The FR unit was at one point going in where vortex is, then in WWW. I dont even know if they have made up their mind. And again, this is all just hearsay. We'll just have to wait and see how much of that area of DW is affected when they start the next stage of WWW. Edit: Also, just continuing on with all the rumour, Nick Central was supposed to be getting a bit of a shake up, With things like moving the Nick Pix photo outlet over into the top level of the Nick Stuff Shop and using that building as a character house, clearing out a little bit of the nature strip in behind the claw and next to wild thornberries and moving stingray down into that area. All depends on how much money they are willing to spend I guess.
  23. Rumours of these sorts of changes have been going around both inside and outside of dreamworld, ever since the talk of the second flowrider unit, which still hasnt happened. Its going to be interesting to see what they actually choose to do with the area when they get around to expanding WWW.
