  1. I know at Dreamworld (and i presume MW would be quite similar), No personal material can be confiscated, regardless of the nature of it (to a certain degree anyway). You can be asked to dispose of the footage in presence of a staff member, but if you refuse it is instantly referred to security, who in conjunction with the duty manager may request that you leave the premises. This happens every now and then, particularly when people get caught taking on ride footage of rides like tower and drop. Drop is particularly stringent with checking of hands and pockets prior to dispatching the ride. Same policy applies to people taking photos of ride photo preview screens. Operators are supposed to prevent it, but if it happens and they arent able to stop the person, the photo is given to security who then deal with it. Many annual passes have been confiscated due to breaches of these policies.
  2. For Staff? I doubt it. Parking where the staff currently have to park is inconvienient enough, let alone sending them all the way down to the BB overflow. Not to mention that area of the park is already set up for overflow admission, acts as a suitable entry point for guests, as well as helping with dispersion of people. Putting staff down there would easily add 10 mins to the travel time of staff, which doesnt sound like much, but that 10 mins makes a huge difference when you have to line up for uniforms/floats/sign on etc.
  3. Good question. They have been doing a lot of clearing and levelling on the outside of the park, Which can be seen as you drive in between the first and second roundabouts.. Maybe this is why that area is being cleared.
  4. Well after today, Dreamworld is now back in line with the VR Parks, with $69 adult, and $45 child admission. But yes, the second day passes sell like crazy, as do the WWW upgrades.
  5. Yeah Turbo_x, thats what I said in my last post about the Imax Showing 5 sessions a day, 2 used to be Australia, land beyond time, which they no longer show. As far as I know, OceanAir is still the company operating helicopter flights out of Dreamworld, they closed down for a few days, and came back with the green 'James Technologies' chopper, and new uniforms.
  6. Well Hardly the only ride people buy annual passes for, theres a group of 'regulars' aka the flowpests who are in without fail week in week out, but they hardly amount to anything in the grand scheme of annual pass holders. But there was talk a while ago about getting a second FR unit, possibly something just slightly different, but havent heard anything of that since all of the tightening of the belt kicked in. The World Gate move was in my opinion a very smart move, Trying to negotiate the amount of people moving back and forward last september-christmas (when it started getting hot), through the tiny little gates in the flowrider shop was a pain in the rectal region. Also moving the gate will assist in the flow of people if the expansion ever goes ahead. Quickly back on the subject of CEO's, Stephen Gregg left his position as CEO for personal reasons, and will still stay on in an Advisory position for MLO on a part time basis. I think it was a very dignified step down and He did quite a good job as CEO over his 4 years in the position. Edit: Stephen Gregg will see out the remainder of the year (after a month off) as CEO before he leaves to take up his MLO position, So i dont think we will hear much about a new CEO just yet.
  7. Well I can definitely confirm its true that he 'stepped down' as CEO, as he was also the Director of Development for MLO, it will be interesting to see who steps up to fill the void. Contrary to Dan, I dont think Kevin Bradley would have been a good CEO, he was ok at what he did as COO, but I think he was too alike Stephen Gregg to allow for much growth or movement. This change in management might be the shakeup dreamworld is very much needing. Fingers Crossed for someone who can influence some much needed spending!
  8. Skeetafly, I felt that way at first too, then I really looked around and there are panels in the wall and holes everywhere, not all in really obvious places, and a lot of those "nothing hallways" are spots for the actors to follow people, intimidate them, climb up the walls next to them. Its all going to depend on how many actors are in there, and as they all rotate, i guess it also depends on which actors you get. Knowing quite a few of them, its easy to see there are vast differences in both enthusiasm, talent and character. Its one of those attractions you have to do a few times, and on different days if youre able to, to really get the gist of it. Although clearly, that could be the biggest downfall of it. In general though, I have to agree, well done to the majority of the actors, but I think youre selling the set short.
  9. Ok, So i managed to go through it today, not long after the second session started. And to be honest, I wasnt that impressed. Its not bad, although IMO its a step down from nightmares. It is a completely different style of attraction really, so it wasnt easy to make comparison. There are a lot of similar noises and tactics that were used in nightmares, but the set itself is so much more impressive and elaborate, there are so many potential places for scarers to be hiding that it keeps you on edge, and im sure they move around quite often to keep it fresh. Although I couldnt help but laugh at the random 'scary' dude who ran up behind us, stared me and my mate in the face and just said "death!" and ran away, it was just pitiful. Throughout the attraction there's also the occaisonal 'good guys' who push you on, encourage you and all that jazz just by using small phrases like "that way", and "quick, keep going!". Some of the scarers also do some really really cool things that just make you sorta look and go, wow! I wont go on and spoil any of the good details for you all, but yeah, Definitely worth a look if you get the chance.
  10. Its Down at the 'Dream Room', on the site of the Old Blue Lagoon and on the way to big brother.
  11. Yeah that seems to be what they are advertising, although both Nightmares and Tomb Raider ran extended seasons, so depends on its popularity I guess. They have put signs up everywhere advertising the attraction, and it runs two sessions, 11-1, and 2:15-5:00. Everything Ive heard about the attraction is positive, so im looking forward to going through myself on thursday.
  12. I worked in theatres for a few years doing Lighting Design/Operation, Stage Managing and FOH management. In total about 5 years of solid lighting, although im sure thats not a lot compared to some around here. I was also the only decent technician at my high school by the time I finished. I dont have much time for it anymore though, Its dissapointing.
  13. Well because its only one attraction, not two like nightmares I daresay it will run all day, maybe as It gets a little quieter after september hols they will cut back on staff and throw a 1 hour break or something in the middle of the day, but who knows. jjupt, It opens on the 8th and Screamworld is on the 12th. It doesnt say anywhere that Ive read that its opening exclusively on the night, its always said "be one of the first to experience". To quote from the Screamworld Website: As for the boredom, I think having live actors in the attraction gives them the flexibility to move around and blah blah, maybe scare one group and skip the next. And its all dark. I think its variable enough to be different every single time you go through. For example, I went though the Freezer in 06/07 Something like 18 times, and every single time it was different, and I got a bit of a scare. Just because the actors were never in the same place twice. Sure it lost its charm a little, but it was still good. I reckon im gonna give this one a chance and see how it goes before I write it off as boring. In response to the early entry thingo, Unless you purchase your ticket through RACQ/RACV etc, You still have to pay the $10 to gain access to the early entry, Max Action Pass Holders Included.
  14. Found out a couple more minor details today.. The attraction will have an established storyline, and therefore the storyline will play out as you make your way through the attraction. The Mummy live has 30 actors, all in elaborate and far varying costumes. The attraction will last for approximately 7 mins. It opens officially on Monday the 8th.
  15. Yes but of those 5 sessions, 2 were the other show, Australia: Land Beyond time. It was nice having two shows, which they no longer have. As for the helicopter, As far as I know the current contract with OceanAir is finished. Whether it is redeveloped and then another company sourced out, or another contract between Dreamworld and OceanAir is created, is another story, and at this stage who knows.
  16. Im surprised this one hasnt been spoken about. Although its not huge news, As of friday last week, Wiggles Farmyard Friends is closed for 'redevelopment'.. Couple of things I noted today, Yesterday appeared to be the last day of OceanAir Helicopter flights from gold rush country, they no longer seem to be operating, but never fear, you can head up to Imax and watch one of the now five (yes, 5!) sessions of space station that shows daily. On a more positive note though, all of the gardens around the park have been refurbished, and are actually looking really good, no more trampled plants or dead flowers, although give it a few months of douchebags trampling over them and we will see how they look.
  17. You can forget that one. Tower enforces the No Loose items policy, the only thing you take with you is all footwear. All other loose items must be passed to the Senior Operator/Put in the boxes provided.
  18. This requires a supervisor, not an operator, as do all breakdowns, trips, e-stops etc. It requires a full reset of the ride computers, just putting it into manual wont help considering the Computers have no idea where the pod is. Luckily several years ago Dreamworld installed a trip computer, which measures the distance between the Pod and the station at all times, and helps to initialise the drawback procedure in the event of a drive trip. Also, to be fair, it is a winch, its a magnetic winch
  19. When are you using your second WP day, before or after the extra day that you want? I dont think it really matters, unless Guest Services wants to see your reciept, But in any case, im pretty sure they do it.
  20. Hard to tell. It depends a lot on popularity and stuff like that. I know last year nightmares was supposed to only run from september/october through til after the christmas holidays, but due to its popularity, it was extended until after the easter holidays. So who knows.I dont think an official period has been released, but I could be wrong.
  21. An e-stop is A LOT Faster Stopping than four swings. An autostop is roughly 4 swings, its the equivalent of a normal stop. This is the most common operator stop on the claw. An e-stop is like having the ride rapidly slowed in mid air, then jerk, jerk, jerk back to its original position, meanwhile floors are locked, harnesses locked and gate locked. The e-stop on claw is only used in emergencies or where there is imminent risk of danger to guests, staff or equipment, In all other cases (like idiots with cameras on rides.. or rocks) the autostop is used.
  22. Not saying there wasnt something wierd happening, but if It was a genuine issue which caused a fault or something similar, or if the operator had made the decision to autostop or e-stop the ride on account of something other than a fault (loose articles or anything like that), then you would have known about it, especially an e-stop, they just look painful, id hate to be on one.
  23. Well Judging by the props and bits and pieces ive seen around, I daresay someones telling you dodgy stories. Or you were half asleep. Whatever works.
  24. Well For the few months before its Annual Maintenance it was quite a regular occurance, so quite a large number of people would have experienced it. What was different throughout the ride that made you think something was wrong? Unless the ride came to a sudden stop, or stopped in less time than it usually does the ride cycle is generally unaffected. As far as Im aware, when the floors dont come up (harnesses and gate dont release etc.) its either a result of an Operator E-stop, a sensor fault, or poor alignment of the gondola over the sensors at the bottom. In all of these cases, it requires the engineers to come and correct the situation (edit:) and in most cases a supervisor to oversee.
  25. Since when did it become tomb raider? As far as I am aware its still The Mummy Live.
