  1. I've been to both numerous times. Perhaps it's just childhood nostalgia, but Magic Mountain was so much better. The Beach House never seems to be anywhere near as popular as Magic Mountain ever was. On paper the offerings are very similar but in reality Magic Mountain had a much better version of each ride imo. I remember there being more attractions than what The Beach House offers, and I also remember the slides being longer?, but my memory might be letting me down on any/all of these. I only visited Magic Mountain 2 or 3 times when I was fairly young. The Beach house is actually 5 levels. But only 2 really of them are part of the attractions. Lower Ground is an Underground Car park. First and Second levels are arcades, water slide ends & the various other attractions. Level 3 holds a private function room looking over Glenelg and Level 4 is the top of the slides. Dump of other random fun facts: They restored and kept the Carousel from The Mountain for The Beach House Magic Mountain had it's own Tokens you used to pay for the Arcades & Rides. When the Mountain opened in 1982 the Water Slides were the longest in the Southern Hemisphere. There was an old popular urban myth school kids used to spread to scare each other, that a group of misfits liked to sneak into the Mountain when it was closed and stick Razor Blades to the water slides with Blu-Tak. Made some of the younger kids particularly scared of the slides. Was obviously never true. The Ferris Wheel at Beach House barely runs nowadays. The local council normally set-up a much larger temporary Wheel at the start of the Jetty during busy periods which is much nicer. The Mountain was demolished for silly political/council zoning reasons and is generally considered a bad decision in hindsight. (Although it depends who you ask). Due to redevelopments in the area there wasn't enough "Free Park Space" and so the Council owned Mountain had to be demolished to free up some space. The mountain was meant to be covered in more greenery but this never happened. It was canned because of sub par performance I believe. Beach House seems to do well enough to stay afloat but it's never been quite as Busy as Magic Mountain used to be. Bonus pic (not mine) of Magic Mountain from the beach side looking from the Glenelg Jetty.
  2. Our curve supposedly more closely matches that of Italy, just a few weeks behind. Unfortunately not enough being done here until it's too late. A school in my State had a teacher who tested positive so they shut it down for two days to clean, during that time a pupil of that teacher also tested positive. and yet they still went ahead with reopening the school? The measures being put in place WRT state borders closing should have happened a month ago. It's going to be a very isolated winter by the looks.
  3. So how did the conveyer even stop then? The ride op claimed to have pressed the button 2 or 3 times, did he press the wrong one? EDIT - Found it towards the end: How awful for him, ridiculous that this wasn't foreseen given that the Main panels conveyer stop button takes 8 seconds, which is controlled by a primary ride op who has their attention constantly switching between loading guests and controlling the entire ride.
  4. So at what point did the main operator actually hit the primary E-Stop? The documents timeline doesn't specify and also seems to imply it wasn't pressed until after the rafts collided?
  5. I went Ferrari World a couple of years ago now. Turbo Track is fun but lacklustre especially when you've ridden it's older brother! But Ferrari World also has Formula Rossa (Fastest coaster in the world) and Flying Aces (A Hyper with the tallest non inverting loop). So anything is going to be lacklustre compared to those!
  6. Yeah those over the shoulder seatbelts on the Shockwave are atrocious. I can't imagine how slow load/unload must be during busy times. Very little value added in terms of safety too really.
  7. Not sure why this thread doesn't have more attention? This is very exciting news imo. This shows that Ardent are truly committed to fixing Dreamworld and they want to do it right. You would think that someone like Greg wouldn't join unless he was promised the funds and control required to turn the place around. Why leave Village otherwise? But perhaps i'm being naive in my optimism....
  8. Hopefully it's just a quick removal of the ride rather than the whole area, would be nice for them to reuse the wave, shack/station and old surfboards that went missing a while back in the seating area. If you're not going to give us anything new then a reminder of what once was is better than nothing
  9. When I went in June I had this exact issue at the end of the day. Not enough for a final run so we missed out.
  10. I would have thought given the 20 person minimum for Wipeout they're just trying to stagger guests across the cycles. If you have 30 guests lined up and the park isn't very busy, it's better to put 20 on and leave the rest to help fill up the next cycle rather than have guests waiting around forever for the minimum to fill up. I remember when i went earlier this year Wipeout took the longest to get on, purely because of the 20 rider minimum. I didn't realise until I arrived in Brisbane but my trip to the parks this year was the same week as the inquest. Was very unsettling driving to DW while the morning radio reports went over the previous days inquest findings. Although a smarter man would have just switched the station.
  11. Like they did with Lethal Weapon/Arkham Asylum?
  12. After my Trip to Dreamworld on Monday I don't think i'll be rushing back until management changes. Too many rides down but most importantly I couldn't believe the state TOT2 was in. Issues all morning, saw them testing it throughout the day. Went for a ride on it later in the afternoon when it opened and it was an incredibly rough ride back into the load/unload station, felt similar to a manual car bunnyhopping. After that it overshot the station and they had to back it up and retry 5 times before it parked correctly. They continued operating it after this so I assume it's a known and common problem which isn't a risk. It might be a minor issue in the grand scheme of things, but ride staff said NOTHING to us during or after any of these problems, i was fairly confident it was just a parking issue but other riders were obviously distressed and worried as it clearly wasn't standard procedure.
  13. Yeah it sits in the maintenance bay which is visible from the queue
  14. The Adelaide Mad Mouse was a death trap from memory. I was only young when it was removed. My dad took me on a ride in it's final year of operation. I still remember seeing the track lift off while waiting in line. Scary to think it lives on overseas.
  15. I totally forgot about Parque Warner! That's why i had Movie Park Germany on the list too. Unfortunately though, all closed during the week in November At least I'm building a good list for my next trip!
  16. Yeah, it really makes you stop and think how lucky we are down here. On the plus side, now i have an excuse to come back via the Goldy and give Rivals a go
  17. Thanks for all that @CaptainLazerGuns, although upon further inspection it seems Germany & UK shut their parks for Winter. So looks like just about everything's gonna be closed. That sucks. At least Efteling is open.
  18. Hey Guys, I'm heading over to Europe in a month with friends and i've decided to stay on for a week or so by myself to check out some parks! I've never really keep up to date with the theme park industry outside of AUS. I thought this would be a good place to ask what I should check out. We're already doing Disneyland in Paris for a few days. All I really know outside of that is Movie Park and Europa Park in Germany. I've heard of a couple in Switzerland and the UK. But i'd rather recommendations if anyones done a similar trip Im way more a Thrillseeker than a general park lover. So i'd be more interested in parks with bigger and more interesting rides/rollercoasters. Please merge or move this thread if i've posted in the wrong place. I wasn't quite sure where to put it. Thanks!
  19. It died because it was a poorly executed novelty which wore off quick. The noise of Dazzleland drive shoppers out just as quickly. So it was binned. Also, people shop horizontally, not vertically. They still struggle to get people onto anything past the first floor. The article mentions the 4th and 5th floors are currently closed, but even the 3rd floor is full of a VFX School & Gym. So it's really only the Underground, Ground and first two floors in use by shops these days. I think Myer still goes to the 4th floor maybe? I have some very fond memories of Dazzleland as The "Jazz Junction" was my first Rollercoaster. But after the launch hype I don't remember Dazzleland being anything spectacular. Bit of a shame really.
  20. Was it an exec or was that @The Original Belinda Brown? It's a real shame she left.
  21. That's sick. But my only gripe.... "The most advanced roller-coaster in the world" "The biggest, the fastest, the greatest thrill ride EVER built" "The world's BEST" Really? The blatant lies just make me cringe.
  22. Haha, not quite I was thinking more the installation of the joker head as part of a launch ceremony. Something like crowning it complete? Perhaps not though, also depends how quickly it can be installed & how quickly they can run it afterwards.
  23. Right before school holidays. I think the Joker Head has something to do with the launch
  24. Well if the track & supports are made & installed to spec it would be fine in theory. You would notice pretty quickly during construction if something didn't line up. Although we had that exact scenario with the Stengel Dive support? I thought the pull through was to check clearances anyway?
  25. Looks awesome, would be interesting to ride and see how it compares to it's older brother. AW has been growing a decent lineup of rides too. Might be time for a trip to Perth next year 🤔
