  1. TGI Friday's in Melbourne does free refills
  2. If you check out the figures, video games pull in far more money in their first 24hrs than Hollywood movies do. I'm fine with them theming rides to games or comics, so long as movies about such things exist.
  3. Am interested to find out what other members do in terms of groups when visiting parks. Do you get friends together or rock up alone? Do you not go unless you can find company? Feel free to comment!
  4. The front row of seats on Superman provide a little more space than the seats further back.
  5. The german version of WWF looks more like a wild west version of Bermuda Triangle, based on where the ride goes into the mountain
  6. I took a look at the Kumbak website, and they have a project shown there on an SLC where they built a new escape system for the chain lift section. Perhaps this is what Kumbak will be bringing to the ride (which would require a site survey I would imagine) whilst Vekoma bring new trains?
  7. Movieworld does seem the kind of park that would celebrate a 21st rather than a 20th. It is Hollywood after all.
  8. Every time I've been in the past they have gates open at 9 or 9:30 with rides open at 10:00
  9. Forget the $5000 - just make it a Plasma
  10. If it were up to me: You would load Lethal from the opposite side to where it is now. It wouldn't be overly difficult to build a ramp up from ground level cutting underneath the corner between station and block brakes. Unload is where load currently is, and have the exit be out the side where the current emergency exit pathway is. I would (depending on what ends up in Batman), have it enter from behind the low sweeping curve of Superman, and exit where the current entry is. This would then give you all of Chinatown to turn into something else, should you wish. If you knock out the old photo shop then you can open out into the area behind Scooby and the Show Stage. I would re-theme the area outside Scooby's exit - it doesn't fit into the western theme, it's just kinda ghost town, and doesn't seem to fit into anything. I'd be getting rid of the middle-of-the-path cemetery, and taking cues from the Intencity, build something more Circus like - rebuild the Show Stage into something with a high enough ceiling you could put trapeze artists and magicians in.
  11. They have a large brake section behind the station for that exact purpose, in the same way they have the brake section at the top of the tower - contingencies for the unlikely. I would imagine the mislaunch is a case of the electromagnets not firing in the right timing to impact on the car, so a bit of a launch but then a slow roll and probably not up the tower at all. Two rides I've had unusual happenings on are Lethal Weapon and Giant Drop - on Lethal, somebody left their thongs on and the operators noticed as we were headed up the lift hill. The stopped the motor, walked up the stairs and got the person's thongs from them. Once the operator was back inside the station we got going again. The other on Giant Drop was somebody grabbing a camera out of their pocket when the high-speed section of the winch had stopped. Observant operators put the winch into reverse and brought us back down, got the camera off the offender and sent us back up again.
  12. It wouldn't take a matter of months, not years, to knock it down and move it. We've just seen how quickly they can install a ride, and given they already have the pieces and one would presume still have the plans from the original build, it would be costly but quick to move it. Lethal Weapon is not always busy either - over the last 3 years it has been a walk-on every time I've been to the park, even on days when Main St is overrun with people.
  13. Would it be worth splitting this off into another thread now that the construction phase is over?
  14. The whole area is sandwiched between Scooby Doo and Superman. It wouldn't be overly difficult to move that exit pathway though. Extend it further forwards, then turn left to go underneath the lift hill, then left again and head back into the park. This means you can get rid of the viewing bay (I don't think people would miss it too much).
  15. I'm all for the re-theme. I think dedicating the front portion of the park to a singular dedicated theme makes a lot of sense. If they are to do this though, they'll need to re-theme the Gotham City Cafe (or whatever it calls itself now) down near Scooby's entry. I've always thought that stuck out a little bit, given the rest of the street is meant to resemble Old Hollywood. The other thing I have noticed, is that it wouldn't take much to move the exit line for Lethal Weapon so that it returned to the DC Comics world. This then frees up a large amount of space in China Town. I seem to recall speculation about a flat ride being installed in this area in the past - perhaps those plans are coming to fruition, just a lot slower than anyone predicted. Any thoughts on what could go here?
  16. Mikk - we've heard that it will have a replacement train of the new style, and a re-theme. We've speculated it will be DC Super Hero themed.
  17. If i remember correctly, that other entrance required the use of stairs, which would not bode well for wheelchair-bound guests wishing to ride, since they would need to somehow alert ride staff that they'd be using the exit path to the station.
  18. It had been a while since my last visit when I turned up at Movieworld yesterday. The entry for Lethal Weapon had been moved since I last visited (it was on the front of the sound stage building beside Superman last time). There was new graffiti art work and a new set of switchbacks inside the building where the old stack of cars used to be. I also found some markings on a few of the support posts - not sure if this symbol is something from the building/engineering industry or if it's a logo for the new ride. Photos are attached.
  19. Was at Sea World yesterday and found this: Also, while on SkyWay, saw this from behind the temporary fencing:
  20. There was a pathway being built near the vehicle access, which leads up to the ride platform. There are plates on the concrete wall for the decking to attach to in order for the deck to attach to the gap in the wall. Probably 2 solid days work.
  21. Was in the park a few hours ago and managed to snap a few pictures. If the park were going for Six Flags level theming, I think the ride would be open already. We might get Six Flags Deluxe theming perhaps - there's only 4 working days left until opening, 3.5 if you allow a half day to remove all the temporary fencing.
  22. I'm hopeful that the timing of the closures has been for a specific purpose - if they have replacement attractions that they want to open concurrently, perhaps they need this time to get them ready for that. Failing that, it's just poor business practice IMO.
