  1. Unfortunately with a new ride, I don't see Movie World offering discounted ticket prices on shopping dockets for quite a while. I mainly have seen them on shopping dockets, but not long ago I remember getting one when Video Ezy was doing a promotion and gave out Movie World discounts. Of course they all expire conveniently a week or two before Superman.
  2. By the looks of it, Movie World has increased ticket prices by a couple of dollars for 2006 following Superman. Now $62 for adults and $40 for children. Annual pass prices seemed to have increased to to about $155 - what it was previously I can't remember but I didn't think it was that much. Dreamworld I think has also increased prices by the same margin.
  3. The official Movie World website has added Superman to the list of attractions. Most notable is the addition of a couple of ride facts that might not have been previously known, eg that the ride time is 1 minute 40 seconds. Yay, 300th post.
  4. Thanks for the pic - I think the logo looks perfect there. For some reason I assumed that they weren't going to do anything with that blank wall. Anyway, in regards to the supermanescape.com.au website - I noticed a very slight change in the ridecam section - two new pics that are probably Ozcoaster pics that we've all seen before but I thought I'd just mention it. EDIT: It is also now possible to dowload the skysurfer and snowskier commercials from the 'tv commercials' portion of the Movie World website. On a similar note, I also saw the end the otherday of a new commercial for the three park superpass outlining the new attractions at each of the WVTP parks - I heard the part talking about Superman but couldn't see it in time so I'm not sure if they showed any 'actual' footage of the ride or was just bits from the other ads.
  5. Under the current drought and water crisis that's seeing the demolition of the water fountains in King George Square in Brisbane and everything like that being turned off, its actually quite surprising that Dreamworld would get permission to build something that involves so much water - as environmentally friendly as it may make out to be.
  6. I really think this is a waste on Dreamworld's part. It's far too close to Wet'n'Wild to be a feasible investment for Dreamworld. I really don't think that visitor numbers can support that many amusement parks in the one area. This will not in my opinion attract larger numbers to the parks, but merely take visitors away from the existing parks which I don't see as a good idea - maybe for shorter queues but not for continued expansion. However if this water park is to join directly to Dreamworld, and Dreamworld can market both parks together and perhaps offer a special ticket for direct entry between both parks on a one/two day basis then I think this may work out to be very good marketing wise for Dreamworld. It would definately attract the family market if they know they can get Dreamworld entry and entry to the water park for a discounted price.
  7. I counted about 3 to 4 minutes between launches. The fast part itself would have been all over within about a minute, if that.
  8. Today Superman was testing! I was walking out the exit of Batman near the shop and heard an unusual noise and turned to look up and saw the entire train flying over the top of the top hat. I promtly hurried out to the fountain and watched it do the remainder of the track. I stood around for about half an hour plus (it was right at the end of the day) and watched them continuously testing - I must have seen it go around about 8-10 times and all I can saw is wow! It is actually really quiet - after seeing the brake fins lowered, the cable makes a bit of a whiring noise and then the train glides really smoothly up the launch and then makes a slight roaring noise as it goes up the top hat and the rest is very quiet. It just seems to glide around the track - and compared to Lethal this thing looks really smooth. For a rollercoaster fan, this was such an amazing feeling - I had no idea I'd get to see it and I got such a rush of adrenaline just from watching it. I've said it before and I'll say it again - when this opens on December 26, Movie World will control the theme park scene in Australia. Just looking around at how amazed the rest of the crowd gathering around the fountain was, this will definately do great things for Movie World.
  9. Movie World has finally announced Superman on their own website (www.movieworld.com.au). From the site:
  10. I was wondering about what the whole 01002 thing was too. But today I saw on the side of a bus an advertisement that was merely a picture of '01002' stenciled with spraypaint onto cement. Looking at the ads the last thing you would think it was would be a roller coaster.
  11. The ride queue I think will be around the front of the park - perhaps using the old movie magic queue. I think the last set of Ozcoaster photos pointed out a path being added in that region. As for where the path enters the building, I'm not sure - but I believe I can say that the exit is in the Chinatown area leading to Lethal Weapon. When I was there last - the door with the stairs leading up to it was open and they had put up a wall creating a path from the door leading in the lethal direction or the area where the Superman track reenters the building after the breakrun for the station.
  12. Based upon the view from the Lethal Weapon the other day, it appears that exterior theming (at least around the ground-hugging banked curves) involves the ground being covered with a sand-coloured covering - most probably sand. While it sounds a rather simple thing to do, I thought that along with the red and blue ride it looked rather good and works with the palm trees that have been planted.
  13. Thanks for posting the link. Good to see it again and it certainly brings plenty of memories back. It was just the other day when I was walking through the Myer Centre that remembered how I missed seeing it up there.
  14. I just rechecked the www.supermanescape.com.au website and it has been changed! At the moment the website just has the logo but it says the website goes live on Tuesday 15th of November.
  15. Well today I went to Movie World and I was so glad I did! When the bus pulled into Movie World I noticed a yellow train sitting at the top of the first camel hump and almost passed out. Today they were continuing with a slow pull-through of the front two cars of the train, which I'm assuming had been going on for the last day or two. And to indicate slow - at 10am it was at the top of the first camel hump, by closing at 5pm it was sitting in the inside overbank. Luckily though I was there the few times during the day that they slowly moved it. Most of the time it was tied into position on the track and was connected to a crane that slowly let it slide down the hill. Watching it go in through the hole in the building for the overbank for probably the first time ever I guess felt like a bit of an honour for me, though it would have been good to have gone yesterday and perhaps seen it go over the top hat for the first time. But yeah, very exciting to see that they are finally sending the train around - and I guess proper testing should be starting quite soon.
  16. Feeling the TOT going up the side while on the Drop is the best part!
  17. I think a B&M Dive Machine like Sheikra with a watersplash would work perfectly in with the theme of Ocean Parade if it was build on the old Thunderbolt site. But something like a floorless or flyer - something original that hasn't been seen in Australia yet would be great.
  18. I was at Dreamworld on Saturday with a few others from the online community and both sides were working - and all the times I have been to Dreamworld this year (which is usually at least once a month) both have been working.
  19. No I've been on both - the eastern was my first side several years ago - and I have not once had difficulty with either side.
  20. I wondered why the water rides at Dreamworld didn't operate at night - but I just though then that it is probably because it is harder for people to dry out without being under the hot Australian sun and so the seats on other rides would subsequently be wet to the detriment of others.
  21. I think the general public realises that the parks' descriptions of its rides are merely promotional sales talk and are not to be taken literally. Nevertheless, the themeparks still need to be careful of how far they 'exaggerate' the facts of the rides before they become too misleading and deceptive and illegal. I'm not too sure but does the entrance to TOT still claim that it is the tallest/fastest in the world? because I'm sure that would probably not considered to be mere sales talk and a misleading representation of the ride. Also while reading the other day the Trade Practices Act, I noticed that Movie World was probably in breach of section 53 where it is made illegal that things be falsely claimed to be new when really they weren't - here I'm thinking of the 'new' sign next to the Batman Ride entrance (assuming its still there) and also where they had 'new' next to Scooby on their website for several years (though taken away only recently in the last few months.)
  22. I think Big Brother should be allowed to continue and for those who don't like what it shows, simply don't watch it. Afterall, there is much worse stuff on SBS at similar timeslots.
  23. If you stand in a certain part of the house (I think near the opening into the Friday Night Games arena) you can definately see (and I think hear) the Tower of Terror/Giant Drop tower. Lol, I know if I was a contestant on the show I know where I would have spent my time looking. And you probably wouldn't be able to hear it on TV because the sound used would most often come directly from the microphones around the peoples necks - primarily picking up voices and not background noises such as the occassional sound of TOT several hundred metres away.
  24. And your source for this information is what, may I ask? Eg, are you a park employee, etc? Personally I can't really see Dreamworld building one of these things and with a capacity of only three people per ride I don't see the point. No doubt if Dreamworld was to build one of these it would not be included in the admission cost, especially since we know of the capacity issues Dreamworld has with rides like Cyclone that carry 20 something people around at a time, let alone 3 including a simulator. If this is true, Movie World and Superman: Escape need not fear any competition as I can't see it being nearly as popular.
  25. I foresee that a Superman exhibition will replace the Matrix next year to coincide with the release of the film. Movie World could likely obtain many of the props from the Sydney production and also I believe the studios at Movie World will be doing some special effects/miniature work for the movie so I think it is entirely likely and logical that Superman would be the likely replacement to the Matrix.
