  1. The latest reports from USS. No news on the BSG coaster. The Puss in Boots one is almost done and the rest of the park is getting ready for its Halloween nights. http://dejiki.com/2014/08/uss-hhn4-before-dark/ http://seconddrop.blogspot.com.au/2014/09/uss-update-1-september-2014.html
  2. Outback Splash is hiring too, apparently. I like the fact that your website is not dedicated to Gold Coast Theme Parks. Magic scars - ouch!
  3. I had lunch at The Maze today. The Iguana Burger was quite nice.. despite its name. Outback Splash was fenced off and being cleaned in preparation for the coming season. There's currently no sign of phase two. I also popped by the abandoned Atlantis Marine Park earlier in the morning. It's surprising how many people still visit that place (I saw about a dozen paying their respects). My full report is on my blog: http://parks115.blogspot.com.au/2014/08/atlantis-marine-park-and-perths.html
  4. On the contrary, Tim is going for a new level of realism with his simulation. All theme park press releases must have at least one spelling mistake or grammatical error. Bravo Tim. Put in your application to adventure world now.
  5. Many people are comparing it to the first Batman ride where, in actual fact, it replaced the second 'animated' one.
  6. Imagine what would happen if every time you made a mistake you got a warning. There would be dozens on this very thread alone. Alex is right. I actually saw the movie first, then some of the series.. you don't miss much. Some friends of mine saw the original movie and said it was very wrong, but very funny.
  7. Dang it again! That should read 'Warning points.' Maybe I should get a job doing press relations for a theme park.
  8. ^ Dang you changed it - now we don't know how many warning posts you have. You could have changed it to: '1 of 2 people with a warning post.' Cue the thread: 'Warning posts and what they really mean' And back on topic: I'm looking forward to the film. I was pleasantly surprised by the original.
  9. That press release was almost as good as this one from Adventure World: Hmm.. were there any grammatical errors on the cards by any chance?
  10. I can see why Pin142 has warning points.
  11. The Latest from Adventure World's Facebook Page. https://www.facebook.com/AdventureWorldOfficialPage Once again, the only chance to ride Abyss in the dark during the season. A forest of fog (one 'r' people!), freaky pop-up performances, pyrotechnics (but no mention of a fireworks display) and random roaming ghouls. Still no mazes, but Witchypoo will be making an appearance in Kreepy Kingdom?! (What are we bringing all the H.R. Puff N Stuff characters back now? As long as they don't have any crazy talking flutes). The Cabanas are coming along. I think I'm beginning to appreciate the value. It's like Gold Class, but for an amusement park. I wonder how secure they will be: will people be going through your fridge when you're out and about?
  12. ^ Can you prove otherwise? No, I meant if it's the same exhibit as that they had at SeaWorld what are they going to do with the dinosaurs/displays that went indoors?
  13. Maybe they'll show German news on DW TV. They couldn't think of a name that wasn't already in use? Yeah, Event Cinemas has something pretty similar. It's like inhouse radio for department stores. In general, Dreamworld certainly seems to have woken up. I'll be going back again soon.
  14. Thanks Gazza, I think I got there on my own accord - although I didn't call the grass yellow. Just because Perth isn't in the tropics! Good point Alex - it would be a little boring if it was just plonked down on grass. Hopefully they'll make some effort to theme it up. It'll be interesting to see if they get a tent or something for some of the displays. So it'll be more like Dinosaur peninsula than Dinosaur Island..
  15. Yeah, 'Wild' is a little unusual development for a marine park, but it's not unheard of. It also gives them a chance to upcharge for a behind the scenes 'close' encounter, like they do with many of their other attractions.
  16. Hey, welcome Dracozek. Why is everyone presuming that the new attraction is going to be a roller coaster? Are they easier to commission than other rides? I know Sea World has a height limit on its structures and I would have thought they would have to get something that would appeal to their family market. Will Sea World have to wait until Movie World has had its turn at spending the capex? I think Matt is on the money about the fact that the next big Sea World project is over a year away.. and I wouldn't have a problem if that turned out to be 'Wild'.
  17. Thanks Tim. I don't have access to AW -- all photos were taken from outside (there was actually someone driving around the park in a car this morning). From what I could see up the back nothing has changed. The Rampage's beast doesn't appear to be in place yet, but it's hard to tell. Trust me, I'll be there as soon as they open in a little over a month's time.. presumably after they get their season passes sent out. Apparently there was a problem. With regards to Dinosaur Island, I don't know how much room they'll have on the Castle's Island. They would probably have to spend a bit of money on reinstalling safety rails. I never caught Dinosaur Island at Seaworld, but I presume it will take up a bit of land. They have plenty of grass - why wouldn't they set the dinosaurs up on a spare patch?
  18. Popped down to AW today - the castle is still partly there. The place is looking nice. There are pictures on my blog: http://parks115.blogspot.com.au/2014/08/adventure-world-castle-deconstruction.html
  19. Wait.. dude food? Yay - the new scoreboard for the Aqua Super 6 racers should be good. The rest I was kind of expecting. I don't know where they're going to have room for dinosaur island. The cabanas sound pretty pricey. Are they making a second access gate or are they keeping the old one open for more of the season? It certainly was quicker to get in that way (and more so now that they've extended it). I don't know if you guys have 'Jus Burgers' over there, but they're excellent. Adventure World's food is pretty good by theme park standards, so if this makes it better that would be great to see. I suppose consistency of that high standard is the one thing I'm looking for in their burgers.
  20. ^ The film hasn't aged too well - although I thought Helen Hunt as George Segal's kid was good. Yeah, it certainly carries on that grand tradition of disaster movies from the 70s. And getting back to this thread topic - could be good for Tim to see with regards to what theme parks were like back in the 1970s. A bit like that episode of the Brady Bunch when they go to Kings Island.
  21. Captain EO dates back to 1986, but I think it was pretty limited in its inhouse special effects. Totally jealous.. sounds like quite a trip.
  22. ^ Any film that has Steve Guttenberg running in like a mad man is awesomely bad in my books - doesn't mean it's not a guilty pleasure. I love the 70s theme park atmosphere.
  23. $8 million dollars worth of theming and cleaning up Bermuda Triangle? Or did they get confused with a certain other rollercoaster that made its debut last year?
  24. Yeah, it would have been nice if they had said that or the Southern Hemisphere, but they didn't. How hard would have that been to fact check? Probably was an old article or a lazy sub-editor, if they have those people anymore.
