It doesn't look like it was added for structural reasons.  It looks more like it was added to fill the big gap at the back of the boat to prevent small people (kids/teenagers) from sitting up on the rear backrest and leaning out the back of the boat while holding onto the frame.

Interestingly, after those original photos were posted here, a few people commented that stupid teenagers would do exactly that... and then the design was changed to add this additional bar.  So, maybe @Richard has a point about the track record thing.

This whole design just wreaks of trying to appease government regulators.

its more ardent are doing what they think they need to do to stop another accident happening on there watch

As the saying goes - if its stupid, and it works, then it aint stupid.

Sure, it's not as elegant as Disney's solution, and of course it's cheap - they can't exactly buy new boats every time a flaw in the old one is identified! Who do you think they are... Disney?

We've seen retrofit in many parks, and on many rides before. Sure, it's inelegant, and cheap, and a clear indication of the contempt with which ardent treats it's theme park customers - but if it does the job it is meant to do, and gets the ride running until perhaps a better alternative can be found within budget - then i'm ok with that.

if its going to course damage to the log boats over time and there are chances its going to course injury. its clear it does not WORK

I still think that Austin Powers is a random character to have in Movie World. I love that he is there but the last movie was released 16 years ago.

I guess it's just one of those characters that you expect to see in the parks?

its more likely just that Austin Powers is a character village roadshow have a licence to use

Or you could comeback now and support them whilst they’re ‘down’...

whilst the GC has plenty of coasters, the only ones basically worth mentioning are at MW. DW doesn’t have a decent coaster... whilst dark ride eludes thoughts of a family friendly offering... it could be a dark coaster... something Mummy-esque...

once again we already have a dark roller coaster i know you like roller coasters but its time to sit back and wait while some more family friendly attractions are added

as for comeing to dreamworld rite now there currently nothing left at the park that i really like - wont to ride

so i will wait and see what happens in the future

You're entitled to that opinion, but it seems like the majority here are Coasters first, other attractions second. And they're entitled to that opinion too. I seek balance and originality. An i-Ride would work well in the Dreamworld Theatre, then a Dark Ride behind it, THEN a Coaster to replace TRRR and Blue Lagoon (RMC Hybrid plskthx DW). MW has the Coaster chasers wrapped up, so an I-Ride is a family-chasing alternative.

as i see it the gold coast has roller coasters its time for some new family friendly rides like i - Ride and a dark ride etc

i have no problem with the majority been coaster first but the gold coast has roller coasters

if dreamworld do take the family ride path to rebuild from the TRRR accident i think it will be  big boost to the parks future

it will help me wont to start comeing back to the park someday

While simulator rides are not my cup of tea, a flying theatre is a fantastic addition to the park and is a good family oriented attraction that Dreamworld is sorely lacking, filling the void left by TRRR. I like the idea of a new dark ride in the future as well - Justice League down the road is, needless to say, a pretty underwhelming attraction, and there should be another dark ride that can one up it.

the possibility of a new dark ride is the best news the gold coast theme parks have had for years for me

so over every new major attraction been a roller coaster

I'm 99% sure there are no plans at this stage. I think there definitely should be,  but there aren't because until this week, they thought they could reuse the mine ride and just build a shed over it.

im willing to think reopening eureka  mountain mine ride was there plan b as its ardents way of always doing things the cheap way

its likely 100% there is now no plans for the future other then the demolition of thunder river rapids

and the likely sale of the park been high - witch could sadly lead to the parks closure if someone won'ts the land for houseing etc

Unsure if this is old news (I feel like I've read it somewhere on Parkz before) but this Facebook comment says DW has been "working on"...something similar to a history talk about DW's old rides etc. that would happen while travelling on the Dreamworld Express.

I guess I should cue Eureka Mountain Mine Ride comments then...

not like the chance of them mentioning the thunder river rapids tho - im sure some would see that as in bad taste after what happened

One thing I will totally agree with is Ardent are blaming lack of investment in their older run down looking centres as to why they have been closed. Heard people blame building ownership for why they haven't invested in the upkeep of facilities but if this was the case then other companies that rent buildings wouldn't spend money on upgrading the look of their properties. When you have a centre like Robina that is kept in top shape and somewhere like Richlands that looks ghetto as fuck you have to wonder what is going on in their heads to not have all locations at the same top level of presentation especially when they are owned by the same company.

Seems to be a common thing with Ardent to not invest then blame everything but the actual reason for a failing all while pumping stupid amounts of cash into their US operation. The really sad thing is I am sure the bowling centres in Australia over the past few years have had more spent capex wise than Dreamworld, the alleged jewel in their crown.

Dreamworld, the alleged jewel in their crown.

Dreamworld has now become the BASKET CASE in there crown SADLY

Next you'll be saying the latest Fast and Furious movies were good. Jurassic World wasn't that bad. There's certainly worse movies than it.

and just think the world is still yet to be subjected to two sure to be terrible sequel's to one of - if not the most over rated movies ever AVATAR

fast and furious sequel's have not been worth the time it takes to watch for a hell of a long time now

But you have to the marketing teams who do such a good job at sucking the world into spending there hard earned $$$ to see the rubbish

Boost at Dreamworld closed at least a month ago. Probably more.

It wasn't doing so well after Thunder River Rapids closed, as few guests venture down that way now. Especially when Buzzsaw is also closed.

this may also have something to do with TRR and the CHAIRLIFT been slated for demolition in the near future

Or they already spent too much on a certain new Hyper?

I share everyone's disappointment on this too but I guess it is what it is. If we now have to wait another year I wouldn't go hedging bets on a Scooby-Doo return. What better way to market a brand new ride opening in 2018?

sadly starting to look like this could be a DC retheme witch im hopeing does not happen

I don't think I've ever been on it. I certainly don't remember it. It looks very ordinary though, to say the least.

They should have just put a bulldozer through it at the same time as the rest of the demolition is done.

They've also had a whole year to plan a fantastic new attraction to replace it.

the problem is if DW did bulldoze the whole thing they would then replace it with nothing in true ardent style

i would be happy there is a chance of a new dark ride been made out of the mine ride site

With this new Universal connection,  I wonder if there is potential for a Jurassic World area within Dreamworld.

Could make fantastic use of this in all sorts of ways!

I said a potential Jurassic WORLD  area.

why would we wont a area based on one of the worst movies ever made there is only one word to explain JURASSIC WORLD = CRAP

You really have to be found negligent to be held accountable as far as fines go. But that doesn't mean negligence occurring in this particular incident, it could be previous actions, procedures or operations too that fostered an environment where something like this could happen. It opens up the people in charge of the maintenance department to being charged too, along with whoever inspected the ride that day, and maybe even engineers who had performed previous inspections and passed the ride if it turns out that there was a design flaw/modification that was even partially responsible. It's not something you can even make an educated guess on if there is no report being made available, because people could be facing not only fines, but real jail time depending on the findings.

yes but its sadly looking like it was not just a freak accident witch I'm sure a not the outcome we were hopeing for
