  1. Are we still on the land given over to studios being unchangable? Because that would in the grand scheme of things be really easy to change again. I mean security gatehouse for the studios used to be where the entrance to Rivals is/where GL's queue crosses the creek.
  2. Sea World had a ride within a ride in the early 80s when they had bumper boats within Flume. #autism
  3. *Standard rant about announcing things too early*
  4. Look even having just finished a rant about a lack of control of details, you'd have to back them in that they can identify a lot of this stuff themselves. While I'm sure the odd useful nugget does get posted, I don't think Parkz is why the Steel Taipan letter got changed to be the right way up. I don't think the sticker on the Wiggles sign was ever meant to be permanent, and the ABC sign wasn't finished when a lot of the conversations were happening. Do you think you've made a point?
  5. Thing is they've gone to the effort of giving the tower it's own design identity. The letters on the tower and the signage in the queue compliment each other and there are design decisions taken all round the place with the ride to give the ride it's own voice. The Generic font doesn't fit with those design choices, and IS shit. You can argue 'It won't affect attendance so who cares?' but you can't argue that it's good. There's also a line that 'plinket' uses in reviews that I think is relevant; 'You probably didn't notice, but your brain did'. In the context of this, it looks cheap and underdone. You wouldn't notice, but when there are loads of things like this around the park you sort of leave going 'Yeah it was fine, the place just seems, I dunno, cheap? And I can't put my finger on why'. It's because the styles on the ride aren't consistent. It's the typo on the sign. It's the awkward wording. All these details add up. Giant Drop now isn't a mishmash of old and new, it's 'This is as we intended it', and what it shows to me is there's an overall lack of control over details. It's not a temporary fence, this is DW at its best. There are plenty of things like that in the park that demonstrate a lack of control of details, some of it old management, but some of it new. (Don't get me started with where they've put Lil Puff). They add up. It's also not entirely unique to DW before anyone thinks 'But Village!' is a valid point here. Yes, the Generic font on GD does look shitty, and is kind of embarrassing. Yes this stuff in isolation doesn't really matter, but it adds up to affect how people perceive the place. Westfield has more of a consistent design identity on its bins than DW does on it's marque ride. That's not good.
  6. 200 feet is imperial 1/2 ToT. It's not right if you need to do any precise engineering but gets the job done in most applications. Though the metric 60meter Rivals is more useful.
  7. See 119meters has no context to me. Like I know a meter. I know 119 but I can't really compare it to anything because I can't visualise what else is that tall. But a 39 story building? Yeah I can picture that. I've been in high rises before, that has useful context to me. Some disclosure though, obviously having this hobby I now visualise the height of most structures in terms of how many 'Tower of Terrors' they are.
  8. Also just read the sign, tallest free-falling ride in Australia. Why not just 'Tallest Ride'. Why make the claim smaller? Also it's 119 meters tall, not 119meters high. Also the 'length' of a high rise. Surely it's the height of a high rise? Omg ok so what is actually going on with that sign?
  9. I don't think you can quantify it TBH. Depends on the park, the attraction mix of the park, and which rides are down ans how many.
  10. If they are really doing good, you COULD run the night markets but require guests to have a Happy Halloween ticket (in the form of a wristband) to leave the Central plaza area? Feel like you'd need like 4 points with temporary barriers with a couple of staff at each to police it, plus one staff out the front of ST checking for wristbands to ride? Am I over simplifying it?
  11. Giant Drop = Really big bottle of wine.
  12. I mean I guess I understand the rage, but also the rage does seem a little bit overblown to me. Also 'lol' to the idea that the reason it's fine is because the 'real' first impression of the park is the digital experience.
  13. Maybe they didn't, maybe it just sort of rolled there when they removed it?
  14. I mean that ride was old when DW bought it. I doubt there's much that original but I seem to recall it was the better part of 20 years old when DW opened. Also loved that ride as a kid, one of my favs for a long time growing up just re-rideable and joyous. I vividly remember going overseas as a kid to a park with a proper wave swinge,r and thinking how much better Zoomer was. Wave swinger was much more impressive and bigger, but somehow to my 7 year old mind, no where near as fun. I haven't been on it for a long time because you know, adult, but my last ride as an adult it surprised me by how fun it still was. Seriously rate it and lots of nostalgia for it. Having said all that, there's not a single part of me that thinks they're doing the wrong here getting rid of it for a proper wave swinger. My brief for the wave swinger at the front was 'Must be charming'. Early signs are management are of that opinion too. Fair play, fairwell Zoomer.
  15. Probably not worth it's own thread but question to anyone in the know; is the navigation beacon no longer needed or did it just happen to not be on tonight? First time driving past DW at night for a long time tonight so don't know if this has been a thing for a while?
  16. Oh absolutely. The fact you can pay millions for a ride that barely works is one of those things in the industry that we accept as just kind of being part of game, when really it's kind of crazy that's part of the deal.
  17. Had considered making that point, but the DW thoosies might take it personally.
  18. Someone get in touch with Cedar Fair and ask the people that picked the ride if this is the case.
  19. I mean hopefully if you're buying tickets online, you're also looking at the page that tells you what's closed, at which point you can still back out. Much harder to back out when you load your family in the car and rock up at the gate though.
  20. If you look at the ticketing there's a bit of a clue, it's all built around people on holidays; 3 day pass, 7 day pass 14 day pass. Then you've got your annual pass on top of that. A 14 day pass is two thirds the price of a year pass sounds about right. But $300 is a big ask for locals, and a deal to locals to keep things ticking over is vital. You can't alienate your locals, but tourists will also pay more to enter. Solution is set your pricing around tourists, and then discount for locals for the ticket that appeals most to them. Back in the days where everyone, tourists and locals got unlimited entry for $99 they left a lot of money on the table.
  21. Ah so what you're saying is if you continue your membership, you'd be getting the your membership for cheaper than what someone else would pay for the equivalent product. Good to know! Again, don't be angry they raised the price, be angry that they kept the price low for so long.
