  1. A media release in June did make reference to a roller coaster - though no further details were given
  2. Great to see this place finally getting some love
  3. What day were those pics taken with the 'ufo's'? And approximate time?
  4. Aquaman won't be hitting the screens anytime soon with a scheduled release date of 5 October 2018
  5. It's track for the Phobia Phear Coaster at Lake Compounce in the US - which opened in July 2016
  6. With the new Wonder Woman movie due for release in June 2017 - could the new coaster be themed to this?
  7. Not very much detail in any of the reports! http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/queensland/man-80-dies-in-brisbane-crash-20160521-gp0rcl.html http://www.skynews.com.au/news/national/qld/2016/05/22/elderly-man-dies-after-freak-accident.html The Queensland Police site doesn't mention the carnival ride in its report: http://mypolice.qld.gov.au/blog/2016/05/22/fatal-traffic-crash-burbank-2/
  8. this is probably closer to them - sulfur hexafluoride high voltage circuit breakers
  9. An industry colleague of mine is a Senior Disney Executive here in Australia, they have said that Disney have no intention of building a park in Australia in the near future. The population numbers don't justify the capex required for such an investment. They will continue to develop its theatre division (Aladdin opens in August following the success of The Lion King), and continue to promote their US Parks to an Australian audience.
  10. The area south of Elizabeth Drive is proposed for the new Western Sydney Airport. Though it is 14 years away from being operational.
  11. From the OPW201502417 documents, it looks like the Paradise Country area is being upgraded to include cabins and campsites in the future.
  12. Hate to disappoint - the blue railing and mesh fence are in situ from an image I have from January 2015 and September 2014.
  13. I have some silver tokens circa 1988, that were used in the games arcade - Dreamworld logo on the front, 'no cash value' on the reverse.
  14. Port Macquarie's Fantasy Glades has been placed on the market for a cool $560,000 - looks like it will need plenty of work... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2959364/Ever-wanted-theme-park-Sellers-hope-fairy-tale-ending-run-amusement-park-Fantasy-Glades-hits-market-560-000.html
  15. As previous stated, Luna park Melbourne is known as an amusement park. Though it must be said that management in 2001 did refer to the park as "Australia's oldest theme park" in their promotion. Current CEO, Mary Stuart also makes a reference to 'Australia's oldest pleasure park'. The Coney Island Drop was installed in 2010. It's a bit of a long bow to say, as Colleric did, that it was brought in for the Centenary!
  16. The Harvest Bar was quite good - I also liked the pop up restaurant idea too. Fonda Mexican was operating on Tuesday While I enjoyed the day at Melbourne Show, the ride selection was pretty ordinary. I'd like to see a re-think on the layout. I was surprised that Pirates Revenge was relegated to the back of the grounds (again!), next to the Taipan Coaster. I believe the RASV did themselves a disservice reducing the size of the grounds and selling some sections to commercial developers. The original Government Pavilion (and former Dog pavilion) sits just outside the grounds next to the train station. It should have been retained, same with the grounds down to Epsom Road that were used for the carnival. This area was sold off to make way for a shopping village.
  17. Linfox does NOT own the Palais Theatre and surrounding carpark. This is Crown Land owned by the State Government. - the City of Port Phillip is deemed to be the Committee of Management under the Crown Land Act 1978. The Palais and surrounding triangle has been deemed temporarily reserved for public purposes under the Land (St Kilda Triangle) Act 2006. The CoPP have leased the theatre to the Palais Theatre Management P/L - this lease is due to expire in 2015. The CoPP commissioned a comprehensive report in 2012 looking at various upgrades to the theatre and surrounds. This report is informing their ongoing discussion for the site.
  18. It needs to be remembered that the Port Phillip Council paid for the refurbishment of the forecourt, not Luna Park. LPM provided input into its design in conjunction with Heritage Victoria. Work has started on refurbishing the entrance spires
  19. The Russell Street Cinemas are still referred to as Greater Union - Melbourne City Cinemas. The Event Cinemas is the over-arching brand!
  20. Yesterday, Luna Park Melbourne posted an image on its Facebook page showing the G-Force ride being removed from the Park. They have stated that a new (yet un-announced) ride will take its place.
  21. Colliric - Masterchef was not at the Melbourne show last year - you are confusing it with the My Kitchen Rules Live show that was hosted by Karen Martini.
  22. The initial St Kilda Foreshore Urban Design Framework dates back to 2002 (published date and was revised in 2003) and had a budget in the vicinity of $130 million. They acknowledge it would take many years to achieve and as the budget allowed. The upgrade to the LPM Forecourt is only one aspect of the upgrades.
  23. The work is being undertaken by the City of Port Phillip. The following link outlines the work to be done and timeline, as well as some images: http://www.portphillip.vic.gov.au/luna-park-forecourt.htm
  24. The State Library of NSW contains a set of architectral drawings of the original and buildings from Luna Park Melbourne. They also hold drawings from LPS and also LP Glenelg (SA). For at least the last 40 years, LPM has a only had 3 sets of trains, allowing a 2 train operation. The train storage and workshop was at the rear of the river caves. Once upon a time you could see into this area when arriving into the unload area of the station. LPM confirmed to me recently they have 3 trains. Red and green which are currently in service. The blue train is currently being refurbished. In the past, the train colour schemes have varied. At one point, at least 1 of the trains was a mix of red and yellow.
