  1. I think without trying to contextually pick apart what I was saying the point I was making was that both venues are trying to offer additional non 10-5 events to add value to tickets and drive sales. One's doing a great job at it, one's doing an okay job that could be expanded on.
  2. What about Screamworld and WhiteWater World at night? They're opening the park till late every Friday and Sunday this holiday period. I'd say they're trying just as hard to compete head on but doesn't get the same reception because it's not as good.
  3. Preeeeettyy sure djrappa would know. Just read between the lines a little.
  4. Speaking of Bermuda, I wonder how much of that ride was salvaged? I'd imagine there'd be some cool houses around the Gold Coast with weird looking alien animatronics in them by now.
  5. Quoted for truth. Any business that holds contempt for their customers will either perform at a bare minimum level or fail, but never a great success. I think that's why everyone's so bummed to see the park the way it is. It was, once upon a time, a completely different park with emphasis on quality over profit. Disney learnt this after Eisner left, Cedar Fair learnt this a decade earlier, Six Flags learnt this five years ago, and VRTP have been at the forefront of really understanding that attention to detail and quality drives customer experience which in turns drives sales. They'll discover this and play catch up soon enough. Generally it's when a management shift occurs. And you're right. They don't owe use anything. So buy a pass elsewhere and be thankful that we get world class rides elsewhere. My biggest irk at the moment is that they're like that annoying kid in the schoolyard that's putting their fingers in their ears going "nah nah nah nah not listening to you" when it's obvious to literally everyone but them they're about to be hit square in the nuts by an incoming ball. They're not listening, they don't want to listen, and they don't care. They don't want to talk to us, and it sucks, because i've yet to see any sized business in any industry succeed long term in their approach. Six Flags came within inches of death by doing what they're doing right now, and now they're a better chain for it. Ultimately it comes down to just two really basic business ideaologies - on one hand, you can buy a cheap plane ticket where the airline will try and cut every corner imaginable and upsell you and inconvenience you at every possible hurdle to make a buck, or you can pay a little more and have a great time. Jetstar vs. Singapore Airlines.
  6. Not even remotely, but thanks to your post I did some Googling and found this. http://www.apra-amcos.com.au/MusicConsumers/OnlineMobile/UserGeneratedContentSites.aspx Turns out my frustrations were in total vain. Appreciate the heads up. I'll give them a buzz at some point and see if it's in the ballpark of what I consider reasonable.
  7. Cheers, I had a lapel mic with me, but was time poor at that point. Next time I imagine i'll throw a lapel mic down somewhere towards my feet and strap it down, that way I can get a clean feed without too much direct wind noise. As for cheesy production music, it's surprisingly tough to get tolerable free tracks that you can use with Youtube's monetization setup. If I had the choice, I'd use something like Kanye West's Black Skinhead - it's very dark yet upbeat and very easy to stylize a Top Gear-esque cut to it (Top Gear have used a few Kanye song's from memory, I think last time was the Mclaren review they did?) Infact to further my thoughts - I find it really frustrating how stuck the music, film & tv industries are with the digital age. This is based off no research whatso ever, but I think it would be brilliant if there was a similar radio/music broadcast scheme in place that bars & hotels have but for digital content makers like myself. I'd happily pay 300 bucks a year to be able to make commercial pieces with tracks from Universal/Sony/BMI.
  8. If I were a money man, the 2014 "investment" plan for them probably looks like reversing the Cyclone train, calling it "Cyclone 2" with some sort of different themeing, and calling it a day.
  9. Well if I had my wish, there'd be a B&M Custom-Flyer and an S&S Topple Tower on the island in the middle of the park. Think eery jungle theme.
  10. Just cut this together, it's mainly footage inside the station, it'll give you a good idea of what to expect from the splashdown.
  11. Oh, B&M could easily make something to fit, these two in particular spring to mind as small footprint B&M's that could fit inside a park like Dreamworld. The problem is Ardent are absolute cheapskates so it nullifies the possibility of them investing wisely, instead investing frugally on "wow" factor that underwhelms like Buzzsaw. As per what Gazza has gone into much detail in some other thread before this one, Gerstlauer could do amazing things to the Mine Ride spot. My money is on that as the next investment. If I had to pick my favourite, I'd say throw a mega-lite in Blue Lagoon. However, given the fact that Movie World have Superman, and they'd need something to differentiate from that type of coaster, i'd do a compact Maverick-style coaster or even an Intamin Plug'n'Play Woodie like Everland's. If you could make that Intamin woodie do a barrel roll like all the other woodies are doing overseas, you'd be onto a winner.
  12. For those who wanted a POV that wasn't just track, some cool kid posted this: And a raw version:
  13. Here's another, this time from Gizmodo - it's not necessarily negative per say, but does highlight what seems to be a typical day experience. http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2014/01/wet-n-wild-sydney-neither-wet-nor-wild/
  14. More love from fair fax - http://m.brisbanetimes.com.au/entertainment/music/stressing-hard-wetnwild-nye-festival-organisers-feeling-the-strain-in-leadup-to-new-years-eve-20140103-308sw.html
  15. Haha ten bucks an hour. Good one.
  16. So i've got passes to all the parks, despite this, I was curious to see what general 1-day admission goes for these days, and I gotta say, "$89.99" for say Movie World is pretty ridiculous when you consider Disneyland California (the staple for premium theme parks) is $103.45, Hong Kong Disneyland (the nearest premium neighbour) is $65.60, hell, even in an economy similar to ours, Universal Studios Japan (a park which is nearly three times Movie World's size) is $70.50. (All prices being Aussie Dollar converted.) Over at Dreamworld, it isn't as bad pricing wise, but we're really talking a few dollars between the two. Despite the obvious want by parks to drive "world/vip passes", the Aussie Dollar being what is, Abbott, a remote, local market etc. etc. (take your pick at intelligent reasons why this is the way it is) it still makes me feel a little dirty knowing that the reality is if you want to do what everyone else around the world does, and that is to come in just for a day, or even if you want your out of town rellies/mates to come spend a day with you in your natural habitat (it's why you're a Parkz Member, right?) it's a damn ripoff by comparison to the rest of the world. But maybe i'm just being incredulous. What does everyone else think?
  17. To the park's credit, they've done a great job handling our sensationalist, over the top media, soccer mums and CUBS (cashed up bogans) alike. How many months has the park been opened for now? Cut the team there some slack. To be hit with capacity numbers in the first weeks of operation doesn't exactly give you time to hone down on the nuts and bolts of the operation. The NYE thing sucks, and it'll unfortunately tarnish the launch of the park. Does it mean they should close the park? Shit no. Does them being at capacity mean they'll turn into Wonderland? Of course not. This will all become a distant memory when school holidays are over. I think the bitterness will be well deserved come next summer and this crap still happens, but knowing VRTP,
  18. At best a quad-copter without a stabilising gimble. The fake screams were a bit cringe-worthy.
  19. Sea World trolled the enthusiasts. Well played.
  20. Uuuhhh... Parkz doesn't directly or officially represent any of the parks, so it's pointless to be posting your complaint here if you're trying to reach Wet 'n' Wild via some alternative method to be heard. If you're here for sympathy votes, attention or something else I can't think of, then you're doing it wrong.
  21. This thread is shit. I'd say movie world, although anywhere that has a dyson hand dryer wins out.
  22. She's technically right too. When all the wood rots there'll be not much left.
  23. Bring it on I say. It would officially put Dreamworld on notice as the thrill capital of the country. It'd be a massive "up yours" to the last title (tallest ride) that Dreamworld had on movie world. Also, I don't understand the logic "but what about batwing?" Are we forgetting Dreamworld built shockwave right next to the claw? If you want to compare "experiences", they're 100000x more similar than what this ride and batwing would be.
