  1. It was an OK ride, not the best at the mountain, but solid, I got lucky because I was at the ride early so I only waited a short period (to put it another way, the only queueing I did was in the station chutes) The flipping around and the massive elements are cool, but the roughness and the way your legs flap around heaps is a bit of a downer. I actually see more potential in the Intamin Zac Spin Coaster ( http://www.lifthill.net/berichte/zacspin_eng.php ) IMO the best elements on X were the vertical drop, and the first camelback where you do a 360 somersault. The Zac Spin can do these, but a couple of advantages are the lower cost, and the fact the spinning is free, so it would be smooth. They have decent capacity too. Something like that but perhaps with a second lift would be excellent. Yeah, but DW would never build a ride that good.
  2. Well, I didn't know you gave up on going to MW on Monday in the first instance, but as you posted yesterday you didn't go. You specifically mentioned you were going to be in contact with DW_Rulz ("I'll make sure I msg you on all the fun you are missing out on like a good sister I am") I thought perhaps if this were the case you might have mentioned in passing changes to LW, if they had taken place. (Sample message: Havin fun, LW is Kool, more comfortable now : -) ) DW_Rulz, being back in Melbourne and having computer access might then post up what you would have told him. I vote that persons review on the front page gets deleted. Thats nice. The topic had actually shifted to the possibility of new restraints, not complaints about the ones it has now. Now that I have actually ridden a couple of B&M inverted coasters you really do see the difference in quality. People are entitled to their views about rides. If its fine for you, thats great, enjoy yourself. If others find it detracts from the experience, that's their view too. Personally, I prefer rides that don't require a defensive riding strategy. You know what? I am sick of people that expect everyone to love everything.
  3. I disagree, Its right down on the NSW border, so transport, especially if people are arriving late or staying near the parks (GC Holiday Park FTW) is a must. But DW rulz has the right idea, flights are frequent enough meeting wouldn't be that hard.
  4. Im sure with stuff like that people would be nice and pick up people you know from airports etc. If I had a car I would definitley do it for others, its all in the spirit of it all. I also suppose since people could be flying in from interstate then you could work out a time to meet at the airport, and hire a maxi taxi to get where you need to be.
  5. I think that is ridiculous if they force you to do that, by paying the difference they are in effect taking away the discount you had for being a "child" in the months prior, so you would really be paying adult for the whole pass even though you weren't and adult for the whole period! Comb over the terms and conditions, you have already paid, and if the additional charge is not set forth in there they cant charge you extra retrospectively.
  6. It would really depend on whether the structure could deal with the increased loads, but that is something I have thought of as a quick fix too.
  7. Wether or not LW has been fitted with new restraints.
  8. I think with ERT a good ride to settle on could be Batwing, its only a fairly minor attraction, but it is thrilling enough for all of us. Lethal could also fit into this category, though obviously Superman would be my #1 choice. Scooby I think could be out of the question as that would be a very expensive ride to run given its huge scale and large numbers of effects, as well as the staffing requirements. If it was on a coaster, could we organize to take POV footage (I think AlexB once mentioned something about a camera with an optic link, which would be acceptable if common sense was used) As for a behind the scenes tour, SE could be a good choice given the indoor part/motor room are just flat ground. Scooby would only really be viable if we just stuck to the floor area of the mad mouse section, I think going up into the catwalks would be completely unfeasible. If worst came to worst and we couldn't get numbers/special privileges over what we could do ourselves, would we still end up having just a normal meet? And DWrulz might have a point with the cut off, it could actually increase demand for this event given people know there is a scarce supply of places and a rare opportunity. It would also make it a bit more tight knight, the Q&A session would be better in terms of everyone getting to say something, and the behind the scenes part might be more flexible if there weren't huge numbers of people trying to get through these areas. And of course with ERT you would only be waiting a couple of cycles at the most. I think the key is to make this event good enough, so the people who regularly travel to the GC would be willing to plan a trip around this. When we run this event, we have to make sure we take tons of photos of people acting stupid, faking sex with statues and eating copious amounts of junk food, whilst making sure we only cover 3 or so of the attendees. But we must not take any photos of things people would be interested in, such as the rides.
  9. I'd be leaning towards MW given that is the park I would most enjoy, and the fact it has more interesting attractions makes a question and answer session more worthwhile (Hate to say it but a DW Q&A session would probably turn ugly ). What sort of date would you define early 08 as, as you know I wont be in Queensland till late Februrary so Id be hoping for a date after that point (Though you say in off peak, so that sounds like it would be around then anyway) I would have attended our past events in a flash if geographical location wasn't such an issue. I think they key is to get people in early, and collect at least the event fee, that way nothing is in jeopardy if people decide not to turn up. Merchandise sounds cool. This is just me though, but I'd stick with just a lanyard, I reckon I'd feel like I would stick out too much wearing a T-Shirt, and I probably wouldn't wear if after the event anyway. Can I just say I think everybody should get behind this, it costs $20 on top of an Annual pass to get into the Haloween event at MW, So I think $30-40 with all the stuff planned sounds pretty darn reasonable. Edit: Make sure you advertise this event on TPR, im sure they wouldn't mind
  10. But just going by the quality of previous installations we could have gotten something better. Heck they could have probably just plopped down the standard 600m model. And with GoGoBoys comments, I can understand why he personally would be more annoyed by this than most R-C members, Ill leave it to him if he wants to say why. Though I'd lay some of the blame on Bob Tan since he is the special projects manager. There is an important point people seem to be missing the implications of. This is a kids ride, but the park is obviously trying to pass it off as a thrill ride. Essentially what they have done is lower the internal benchmark in terms of what a thrill ride should be. What are the odds of getting a proper thrill ride in the future if this is what they are passing off?
  11. You should have gone to guest services and explained that you had taken the effort to call to find out whether it was operating, thats gotta be worth a free pass or something.
  12. Since Motocoaster has opened, now do people see why we dislike DW?
  13. ^I think if Intamin had been left to it we would have seen something quite similar to Rita or the second half of Piraten, the ride just looks so unlike their normal design style in terms of elements and track shaping. Pretty much the main downer in this is the lack of airtime, even Vekoma managed that. The ride has a suprisingly large site, so lack of space cant be used as an excuse. Its not just the poor ride experience, but the huge opportunity cost of this that is disappointing.
  14. So, did either of you two contact each other and finally solve this?
  15. Here is another one to add to the list, 107 flips on a Top Spin:
  16. So is anyone else so completely overcome with dissapointment knowing for a 30% bigger budget we could have gotten this. I bet DW are pleased with their $10 million set of helices.
  17. IMO its more to do with the fact the Green Room runs with Cloverleaves and Tornado runs with Whirlywheels. The extra momentum of the cloverleaf rafts means it doesn't slow as much when you crash through the water at the bottom, so you oscillate up the walls a bit more. I guess the starting bit of the Green Room makes it a little bit better since it's pitch black in there (rather than the translucent colours used on Tornado) plus its a bit longer. When you get down to it they are still pretty much the same ride experience, If WnW ran cloverleaves then they would be pretty much equal.
  18. Actually at the Warner Village owned parks, there are signs at ride entrances with warning triangles showing the specific sensations of the ride (eg speed, height, heat, darkness, wetness) then beside the triangle is a gauge showing how intense these sensations are. PS why cant people just watch the ride to see what they are in for? Edit: Sorry, but this all seems so feeble. When you try a ride for the first time are you honestly going to be thinking back to this thread, and thinking to yourself, "oh well roxon said there are some strong g's on the drop, and coasterboy8 said that you pull 1g at the 3rd corner, and Gazza said there are negative gs on the hills, and Richo said if you sit in the 3rd seat the g's are 10% stronger and Churros said the 2nd drop has some weightlessness, but only when E=mc^2" I mean the worst thing that can happen on a ride is throwing up, and none of the rides at MW make you close to that so really what is the concern? Why dont you just ride the thing?
  19. Ads086 is exactly right, just harden up and do it for yourself, why do you need someone to tell you personally its not bad, of course it's not going to be bad or else the ride wouldn't be open to the public. Don't live your life through others. I just think its funny that there are supposed' theme park enthusiasts' out there that wont go on stuff, they seem to want our parks to build all these new rides like B&Ms or whatever, yet they would be to soft to ride them themselves. But hey, if people want to spend $62 and only go on roadrunner that's their call, I'm sure they are getting so much out of their day. Also, people need to use a bit of common sense, if a ride is going fast towards the ground there is good chance (And by that I mean 99.9%) you will feel weightless, or close to it. Why even visit a theme park if you don't like this sensation, G-force is the whole basis of a ride, the more the better I say. Churros has the right idea for you guys, take a ride in a Taxi or a train, there is no risk of excitement whatsoever on these so they would be perfect.
  20. What was the point of this topic again? Methinks there are too many ride wusses on this forum IMO anybody old enough to be in secondary school should be riding everything. Anyway, Superman would be on the list, though its not really true weightlessness. The airtime is on the hills and on the top hat.
  21. Did you end up posting up the updates and any videos? All that talk of wooden coasters in the other topic has given me a desire to watch videos of a few.
  22. Thanks for the info! ^And during this 15 minutes, does the whole ride have to be stopped, or can you continue circulating the other train? If it takes just 15 minutes then why dont they bring the second train on immediatley once the queues hit a certain critical point (say 45 minutes) I just think if the system can easily deal with 2 trains then they should run 2 trains on most days, unless of course one train is in strip down, it might increase operational costs a bit, but hey that's what people are paying $62 for.
  23. Just a question to the expert, but how quickly can you get a second train online? Often people have reported that queues can reach 45 minutes to 1 hour and yet they still run with one train. Is it feasible to put the second train on to deal with the long queue? Also, why do you have to mess around with metal plates to fool the sensors? Is this only needed when one train has been completely been removed? (Eg for a full dissasembly) I would have thought there would be a provision in the computer system to allow staff to tell it there is only 1 train in the system.
  24. You would crash off the end of the track at the bottom of the lift, and the second lift cabin would be coming down, so it would crush the heads of the riders, releasing the sweet jelly within and resulting in a horrible painful death for all involved. For this reason nobody should ever ride Scooby Doo. *Note, there is a slight chance Superman will sense your danger, and propel you out of the ride at 100km/h *Another thing that might happen if the second car doesn't make it into the lift is that the second car will become frustrated, and will proceed to repeatedly press the up button until the lift comes back down for it.
