  1. More to the point, I wonder if many members of the GP will write something similar. It would be funny if management got a flood of bad reviews. So come on guys, write some 1/5 reviews so they appear on the main page of r-c?
  2. I dont know what happened to that plan, it was on the other computer which is dead now. Basically the accelerator was wedged in down the side of the park opposite the big dipper station, and flat rides were just crammed in, looking back it was probably a bit unrealistic from memory. I think now though I would have a Eurofighter in the park instead of an Accelerator. From what I have heard, the redevelopment is going ahead, but it is a long process. The place was only $10mil, a steal IMO, one of the other park operators here should have gone for it IMO.
  3. Indeed, it has been advertised as a thrill ride: -Obviously for its inclusion in the "Big 6 THRILL rides" (source: http://www.dreamworld.com.au/content/bigfi...Big5ThrillRides ) -The fact that it is being marketed towards thrill seekers in an edgy manner and clearly not families (check out the style of this page: http://www.dreamworld.com.au/content/motoc...ame=MotoCoaster ) -The fact the press release seems to pump it up as a thrill ride more than anything else. In other words, better than SE. So basically, they are saying its on the same level with these rides Here they are seeking to affirm that it's a thrill ride. Well, it is crap in a way, contrary to what a lot of people might like to think, a ride being new doesn't make it good, it is no longer the late nineties/early naughties where we would have been desperate for anything, now competition is sufficient and standards high enough that we can expect quality. Plus, there are a couple of important claims DW have made that just haven't been met at all: Remember, the media is going to spread all these claims further. It could in a way hurt, obviously word of mouth is important, and ordinary people might come away disappointed (especially rev heads who it is aimed at, who know what true speed is like) given the hype, and therefore tell others it's not worth it. The comfort issue could also scare people off. Also, SE is still fairly young, no matter what people are going to compare with that, SE is still the better of the two, so people would just end up gravitating to MW knowing a better experience is on offer there. I think a big problem (like Supertubes at WWW) is that is rests too strongly on one gimmick, so as a whole the ride experienced suffers. And Richo, you are right about people forming their own opinions, but often I have found that you have thought the same as I have on a lot of rides/parks, I think I can trust your judgement in this case. Hurry up and post a scathing review on the main page
  4. So, with the leg complaints (very common from what I can see) is it just a case of them cramping up because you have them at an angle? Another thing that hasn't come up, is it a smooth ride?
  5. But the difference is one is thrilling, the other isn't. WnW is going from strength to strength at the moment so it is a fair comment (that it will be successful) Unfortunately I can see it being a victim of its success and just get huge queues (maybe introduce a fast pass type system using locker wristbands or something)
  6. Yeah, it looks like a fantastic ride, though it does really highlight the amount of copying that goes on in the ride industry with new innovations, I mean motorbike coasters started off with Vekoma, but Intamin and Zamperla jumped on the bandwagon. Now these vertical lift/ >90 degree drop coasters with tight layouts and short trains from Zeirer and Intamin seem to be stemming from the original Gerustauler Eurofighter.
  7. ^Maybe when it is done with its promotional work they could give it a permanent home beside the entrance to Surfrider, pretty cool though.
  8. Soooo, what was it like to ride? But thanks for the vid, showed of everything I wanted to see, It looks marginally faster than the first vid, but the launch looks a bit slow, as does that kiddie coaster finale to the ride. The guy beside you (or was it you?) summed it up well: "It needs to fire up" Cant say I'm really a fan of the design work around the ride, the station reminds me of the ones at SFMM, and the tents seem more at home in sideshow alley. Still, I wouldn't mind trying it out.

    SW water coaster

Here are a few, what were you after in particular? Cycle time from first station position to first unload position: 1 min 50 sec Total cycle time for one car through entire course: 3 min Theoretical hourly capacity: 1120 pph Elevation Change: 18m Length: 620m Max G force: 3.8g
  10. Drifting, so does that mean if you turn suddenly you will drive sideways? That sounds pretty cool if it is the case , worth revisiting just to see how they are. I vote they name them "Stunt Cars", or if they are interested in a movie tie in "Tokyo Drift" Good also that they came to their senses and dropped the usage charge, at least now they could market it to the public more easily. I think they could have encountered a problem with the fact the ones at DW are free, it could have made DW look like better value, and with people on trips visiting multiple parks, people simply might pass up a chance to ride given they might have just ridden the ones at DW prior. It could also work well to draw people past games, as it was, blazing saddles was a bit of a backwater, the games weren't that visible, and the path was the long way to WWF, now at least they are more visible, if the queue is well designed it will give a good view of the games on offer, perhaps giving people ideas of what to try after the dodgems. They could even put a few quick play skill games in the queue to occupy people that way. And is it just me, or should there be a Tweety bird on the frog hopper ride up in the foliage? Then the ride would make sense as it would give the look of Sylvester going after Tweety.

    SW water coaster

I had a bit of free time today, So I decided to knock up an Aquatrax for SW. Using Google earth I measured out a pretty precise area sandwiched in between Corkscrew and Bermuda Triangle and sought to see what I could come up with making sure I didnt encroach on roadways or the monorail, very tough as there is a narrow section of the site I had to try and fit stuff through. The queue for this ride would be where the corkscrew viewing area now is. Of course, you cant get water flume sections, so dark blue coloured track, transport sections and some terraformed water had to do the job. Attached is the image I worked off, each square is 5x5m SWwatercoasterfinal.zip
  12. Cool design, more thrilling than what they have come up withthough I have doubts about that helix over the water, I dont think I'd want to say goodbye to the paddlewheeler for that. Here are the two images from the previous post, but without such a ridiculous file size (I'm surprised people still persist with bmp.s, remember, when saving it wont work to type "jpg" at the end, you must pick jpg from the drop down menu)
  13. WIN a trip to a better theme park than the one you are in!
  14. Did you not look at the pictures? They aren't even of Superman.
  15. But then you are back to square one, if you extend the track then the ride will just end up being slow at the end. Its a toss up really, you either have a quick ride with a fast finish like SE, or you flesh out the ride time, and end up with a dull as dishwater finale. I guess the only real solution is to have a faster launch, but then you run into the problem of lack of space. To be fair though, runaway reptar is 35 seconds from the top of the lift to the brakes. A short ride time is a consequence of having a launch. Still, its looking to be pretty dull, and it will rest pretty heavily on the launch and train design.
  16. Stop me if I'm wrong, but often the parks open a ride to the public in the arvo after the media launch, If you felt like travelling down with the off chance the ride could open then you could go for it.
  17. AlexB has a point, Whenever I have been at parks there never seems to be any rhyme or reason to the sorts of people going on rides, Once you get beyond the stuff aimed squarely at children it just seems like open slather as to who goes on what and comes down to what people are comfortable with. I always find it a bit funny how enthusiasts see themselves as good observers of different demographics, and put everyone into boxes (Eg teenagers only ride thrill rides, only people under the age of 10 would go on road runner etc etc) Thanks for the figures by the way, though I cant help but feel they seem a bit pulled out of the air.
  18. Brian from Ozcoaster has done an update on the ride. http://ozcoaster.net/index.php?option=com_...5&Itemid=27 In the 8th photo there appears to be a billiard table riding. The ride looks all shiny and new, though personally I would jazz up the 2 ride control booths to something a bit more catchy than plain white, to me they look like a perfect blank canvas for a surfboard artist to do something creative. And something else I just worked out a minute ago, I think they made the track go beyond vertical at the top so the ride vehicle actually ends up at true vertical when it gets up there, intelligent thinking there by Ride Trade.
  19. It has already been sold (normally they do this sort of stuff through a 2nd hand amusement ride dealer) It is now called Zoomerang, and operates at a park in the US called Alabama Adventure: http://www.rcdb.com/m/id2953.htm
  20. But this line in the press release almost seems to be in response to Superman's presence: Its seems as if the park has convinced itself that this is a suitable response. I'd be interested in seeing rider counts backing up this claim, over to you Superman7774.
  21. Now all he needs to do is give us some behind the scenes stuff from Superman Escape .
  22. ^Yeah, but why should the 14 other riders have to suffer because of the 2 smaller ones on board? To me that seems like a very roundabout way to design a family ride.
  23. ^I'd imagine so, he's posting up heaps of these behind the scenes shots, I think he's bragging about just the sorts of cool places he gets in to I'm still confused as to why he posted that pic of Scooby here anyway
  24. Just an update, DW appear to be trialing a second train design in light of their observations during testing:
