Mick Doohan Motocoaster construction discussion
Gazza replied to AugustVonPolen's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Again, it really comes down to what people define in their own minds as a thrill ride and what the park considers a thrill ride. I don't consider it a thrill ride myself because I have clear ideas in my own mind of what a thrill ride is. I guess for some "family thrill ride" can be a bit of an oxymoron. Yeah, ta for the pics. While I'm sure this will be a very fun ride, I doubt it will "set the standard" though, I think SE has set the bar pretty high for this type of ride despite its flaws, and I cant imagine the MDMC topping it. -

So would anyone agree that it is a bit egotistical to be naming a ride after yourself anyway? -

Mr Greg Shaw, CEO of Macquarie Leisure Trust Group, owners and operators of Dreamworld said: "We believe this ride is fantastic, and reaffirms Dreamworlds commitment to promotional tie ins. This will place the ride among others parks and attractions to leverage off a famous name, such as Tony Hawks Big Spin, Dollywood and of course, Colorado Adventure: The Michael Jackson Thrill Ride. Thanks for that, The bit about the press release was addressed at Richo, I was just asking whether anything was out, though I'm guessing we'll see something soon considering there is an Article on the main page.

I had a look on the ANZ rewards site and couldn't find what you were talking about. Also, all this info floating around suggests there has been a press release....will this be posted in the press release database?

^Doesnt that sort of mean that visitors to DW get less for their money than they did before because a whole area of the park is basically closed off. When the weather got hot it was nice to duck in for a spell to cool off before continuing your day...hey it beats paying a rip off price for an ice cream or drink, or waiting ages in line for Thunder River or the Log Ride.

Was this story on one of those breakfast shows or was it part of a proper news bulletin. Even though this sounds completely unbelievable, it would be pretty funny if this was the actual theme. -
Is this information freely available though? I thought privacy laws were in place, and a private company would not be able to gain access to logs for something like this. But hey, if people want to post stuff, they can go right ahead, IMO they don't need reminding of the rules since they should know them. I personally don't have a problem with it though. That's not to say I'd encourage people to do it or am saying that they should or that I would in the same situation, but if they do spill the beans then there is no reason to be a spolisport or act like a parent I have said this before, but If there is no sign of a ride going up then fair enough to keep it quiet, but once it is at the construction stage then the main secret is out, so talking about the other stuff could hardly be considered harmful.

Lets not forget Richo and his weekly updates of the motorbike coaster though, we've been getting tons of pics that way. Churros re wether it's one or two bowls, just keep an eye on wether a second segment that looks like the blue "corkscrew core" in the 4th pic is unloaded.

Re Psychos comments, I don't see why people "putting off" visits is a bad thing, the park is still getting the same number of visitors regardless, I'd also be inclined to say that putting off a visit till after a ride opening could be a good thing because by then ticket prices would be higher by then. Also, if somebody did visit the park early (eg now) they would see they were building a new ride anyway, I doubt average people would turn around and book a second trip a couple of months after their current one to ride it, so possible advantages from those situations would be non exisitent. Worse still, people on/planning a trip to the GC now might forego a visit to DW completely since there is nothing 'new' at present, if they knew a new ride was coming they could possibly put off their trip, and DW would end up making a sale they wouldn't have made otherwise. Letting the public know about a ride sooner could also lead to reduced lags, Ill quote an article from here to do with WWW: If they had marketed sooner then they could have been paying off sooner. But as you said, other year round parks give out info sooner (Eg Busch with Sheikra) Ill admit though that VRTP are worse offenders, a couple of humorous examples have stuck in my head: I remember when Batwing was going up that there was an article posted up from one of the Qld papers about what was happening at the parks. MWs press officer was quoted as saying "we cant say too much at this stage"...... This was despite the fact hoardings were up at the site bearing the rides name and description ("4Gs of unnatural force") And of course there was the more recent incident when the GC bulletin ran an article on the Surfrider, steve peet wouldn't say anything....even though they had already confirmed the ride: Source: http://www.roller-coaster.com.au/article.php?aid=147

What makes Australia so different to every other country out there? Do you mean to say that Australian parks are different from every other country because they are more indecisive. Basic aspects such as train design and track track layout would surely not change at all? I just think its silly that places like Cedar Point can do sites like this: http://maverick.cedarpoint.com/ months in advance to a ride opening with videos, images, blogs, renderings, interviews and FAQs. Yet here parks wont even say anything and get super defensive when somebody does. That would definitely be interesting to read.

^To clarify, the drop tower incident in the US was caused simply by the cable getting caught on her legs, not by whipping which is what I thought had initially happened to the girl, hence me posting that example.

^They were talking about rides going in at WnW, not WWW. And please, watch your spelling, grammar and punctuation when typing posts. I mean, don't write "wat", it's spelled "what", its like one extra keystroke to spell correctly, and by doing so you make yourself look smarter

^Thank you captain obvious.

Well look I don't really care, ultimately the moderators on this forum decide what is and isn't acceptable, yeah people might post up information, be it true or false, but Shaunernator, it isn't really in your job description to go policing websites telling people what not to say. If people want to post stuff, that's their choice, and ultimately their job on the line. It seems like we have had an avalanche of people joining up, claiming to be in various places in the company and saying all kinds of stuff about this that and the other. Its a bit beyond a joke actually. On a side note, and this isn't aimed at anyone, I always think its a bit pathetic how parks here tend to be so hush hush about new rides even when it is blatantly clear what they are doing/building, especially considering overseas parks release all details and images of new rides months in advance.

Adult Prices: 98- $44 99- $44 00- $49.80 01- $* 02- $* 03- $* 04- $* 05-$60 06-$62 07-$64 *Not in Web Archive PS, I couldn't be bothered trawling through ABS website for CPI data for each year to compare with that. Main point of what I saying is that people often counter the statement "DW never builds anything big" by saying "They just built WWW!" even though the two parks are separate entities. -
The debate about taking cameras on rides has gone on for ages. I think the chances of it hitting somebody on SE are pretty low to be honest since half the ride is in a fenced off area, and the section in the guest area is a G force turn, so items would actually be forced back into a train rather than flying out and hitting somebody. I think its funny that on California screamin you are able to take loose items on with you, yet at MW they come down on you like a ton of bricks, even though both rides are fairly similar in their features. Richo has said this in the past, but the harshness of the MW loose item policy is part saftey, part guest convenience and part revenue raising, and I am inclined to agree. Mytbusters did actually test the concept of being hit by coins and it turns out that coins travelling at terminal velocity (that's faster than the speed you stated anyway) cant even break the skin. While Mytbusters can be a bit dubious they did do this one pretty convincingly so I dont believe for a second what you are saying I dont think that items falling out of rides actually have the potential to become these 'projectiles' people say anyway. If it did manage to slip out of your pocket, it would have to work its way past the saftey bar, and then after that it would most likely drop into the footwell. Thats a lot of things it would have to bang into, at any rate its not going to be able to come out cleanly at 100km/h, thats just nutty. On a side note, at SFMM I rode all the coasters with all my stuff in my pockets (even X), didn't even come close to falling out.

But kids and mums ride the thrill rides anyway at DW so it doesnt make a difference. This has been discussed to death, if they really wanted to build a big coaster there would be nothing stopping them, Blue Lagoon would be a good starting point though...I wont get into this topic here, but it is entirely possible. I just want a ride that is good, it doesn't have to be aimed at kids or thrill seekers whatever, just an actual decent ride. Being intense is not a be all and end all to me. Its just that your post before made it sound as if you thought because it is aimed at familes it automatically wont be that good. I actually think of a "family ride" in the same context as a "family restaurant". Family restaurants arent just for children, but for everyone, and careful positioning in the market means it caters well to all and are generally quite popular. -

So basically, what you are saying is that for the ride to be any good, every other age group should not find it enjoyable -
Well, you volunteered, lets see how you go ;) -Will the rides launch be hydraulic or magnetic? -What speed will it run at? -How strong will the G forces be? -How many passengers per train? -What sort of thematic elements can we expect? -Do you have to be below a certain height to go in the sidecar, and do you have a choice as to wether you sit in the saddle seats, or the sidecar? -What company is building the ride? (if you get that question wrong .... )

Wow, looks pretty realistic and very nice actually. Just another bit of advice, you can use a "generic" stall that is just a plain counter, and doesn't look like an oversized food item. Use these instead inside buildings since it is more realistic (and looks better), and you can set the item to be sold to whatever you want anyway. Plus you can set the colour of the counter to whatever you want, making things look even better.

You're missing the point though. Yes they just spent $65 mil on a water park, but that isn't included with admission to DW so its not a new ride at Dreamworld. It would be like saying Superman Escape is a new ride at Wet 'n' Wild. How does White Water World being next door make your day at Dreamworld more fun? It doesn't since it is a separate theme park. (WWW is still great though) And what GoGoBoy meant by "finally" is that this is the first big ride in a while to be built at Dreamworld, the last one was the Claw. Nobody has really cared about Wiggles world since we're all a bit old for that. Also, what he meant by "finally" was because down the road at Movie World they have been putting in big rides like Superman and Batwing, and it has taken till now for Dreamworld to "fight back" and build something decent. You dont need to work at DW to know that they have put in new attraction. Oh, and Richo, great shots...good thinking in "seeing the light" that the Paddle Steamer might give a good vantage point I can basically guess the layout since I have pretty much thought it would be a double figure 8 type thing, but the middle section of the site is a bit of a grey area as it is hard to work out which line of footers matches up with which, any chance of posting up a MS paint doodle of how it all comes together? And geeze, its bigger than what I thought it would be, this should be a pretty nice ride. -
I have never really understood why people say things like that. I did a quick world count, its like the equivalent of like 2 or 3 pages from a novel, not exactly a marathon. Parks withdraw information from the public all the time, when I was at USH is was asked to take a guest survey, where they withdrew some information from me about my opinions of rides and service. Witholding information on the other hand....
