New Ride at Dreamworld NOT a Thrill Ride
Gazza replied to Dreamworld Ride Op's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Well, it would be nice if they spent their theming budget a little more tastefully in parts, but its necessary IMO, and their newer efforts at landscaping (its not always theming) done by Atomiq have been fairly good. Theming doesn't tend to be a great proportion of final ride budgets. On the Claw for instance I have heard $150,000 thrown around as the figure for the theming budget, which is only 2.5% of the total attraction cost. Worth it IMO, imagine DW without it -
He wasn't talking about the colours of a ride, he was talking about the way all the buildings in Main St are painted in gaudy bright colours that do not suit the colonial style of the buildings.

New Ride at Dreamworld NOT a Thrill Ride
Gazza replied to Dreamworld Ride Op's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I don't think anyone reasonable would have been expecting a "thrill ride" anyway. Most know from the small size of the site and all the rumours flying around that this was going to be a family attraction, if anyone thought otherwise they would be deluding themselves. -
Wait, so you are saying Ride Trade advised them to close it?

Mick Doohan Motocoaster construction discussion

Not necessarily, with Furius Baco the track actually goes downhill directly after the launch into a trench, not to a higher point. In fact, the ride was built without the retracing brake system as seen on other accelerators because of this: I think the way they got around this was to just design the track so it could be completed well below launch speed. I saw a vid of it being launched at 100km/h (35km/h below the normal speed) , and it still flies through the circuit. I bet it will go straight into a turn after the launch in a similiar manner to Rita and Desert Race. -

Nah, that is just for where the storage track is. Another thing to keep in mind is that for a dual station, there needs to be some sort of arrangement for people to enter/exit via the middle, such as a walkway in a trench, of which we can see no evidence of at the moment -
When it comes to the completed park, will it be free of the extra carnival rides you have got in there?

^Conflicting emotions there mate. One thing about the half pipe which I thought was a nice touch was the paint job they have given it. In the shots you can see how the track is darkest at the bottom, then gradually gets lighter, with a white tip. This reflects how a real wave looks:

Carport, Barbecue Canopy, Bus Sheter, whatever. Its a pretty basic structure. Umm, maybe because back in the times when these cars were on the road carports like what they have done didnt really exist, they style of the structure is all wrong. Why didnt they try and theme it? a nice brick pillared building with timber rafters and an uncoloured tin roof, done up like an old service station with old petrol bowsers, antique style signs, mechanics equipment, shelves with oil cans and tools on them, oil lanterns, really giving the feel of being back in the glory days of motoring. However, I think the bush setting is nice, it is good how they went to an effort to not cut down trees. OK, lets flip things around here, what intrinsic qualities make what they have done 'nice'.

Well, at least DW is acknowledging its existence now, this appeared in the business section of today's Herald Sun. Haha true. The funny thing is that if they did bank the track in this case it would actually increase lateral G-forces. -
I'm glad you aren't an Architect or a Landscape Designer.

T-Bone, that is exactly right. Everything looks good when it is brand new simply because its tidy and glossy, the timber is fresh and the concrete is unstained. But the station is bland, a colourbond roof with unpainted supports, (T-Bone summed it up perfectly, it looks like a cheap carport) it does the job but there is nothing noteworthy about it, it lacks the charm of the old station.

LOL, i really dont know, I just googled "coaster construction" and "coaster footers" and that is what turned up, then I just whacked a few random judgements on them even though I had no idea about them. Though the pink one is Crystal Wings at Happy Valley in Beijing. -
Nope, the old one was a figure 8 with a bridge/underpass in it, this one is just some other odd layout.

One of them does Could just be the trains are lighter, or as Skeetafly said because supports are more frequent. Yeah, thats because they have only done the station and launch so far, so of course they aren't going to be high. -
Well, the track through the wooded area looks nice enough, but I think the colour of the roadway and the tyre marks make it look like a running track. The station looks terrible though, looks like they rang up Spanline for that one. I much preferred the barn like station with a shingled roof that was at the old location, this pretty much highlights exactly how the DW of today differs from the original days. Back then they made an effort to make buildings look nice (and in a 1920s style). Now they just spend the bare minimum to keep the rain out.

Edit: no need for me to have this pic up anymore.

Geeze, its not that hard This was a terrible choice for the park, its so boring. This ride will be awesome actually. UTTERLY CRAP RIDE!!!!!!!1111 Don't even talk to me about this one. -
Compared to many coasters out there, not really (Not that I see that as a bad thing as bigger coasters arent always better) . While some Kingda Ka sized is taking it a bit far, people like the idea that MW should build a hyper coaster. How about you read what has been said before asking stupid questions.

I personally am going to hold my judgement since all we can really see so far is a few supports for the boring bits of the coaster. I was never expecting anything too big since its family oriented, but I think the twisting layout and the launch will be what makes it interesting, its all going to come down to the speed it runs at, if its got a fast launch speed its going to belt through those turns and be a nuts experience. IMO you have to experience rides first hand before making any judgement. And hey, since when do family rides suck? SDSC rocks. I think the reason people were expecting more is simply because DW is overdue for a large coaster, especially with SE down the road, and for a long time people have been saying DW is getting this and that, nobody was really expecting this sort of ride.
