  1. I might dip in to this now that I have ridden a "proper" wooden coaster (Ghostrider). While steel coasters are still probably my favourite (B&M inverts and Intamin Accelerators have sort of cemented that) Woodies are an excellent coaster type and come very close to steel in terms of enjoyment. I think steel sort of wins out simply because they are more flexible, whereas with woodies its just sit down gravity fed rides. But woodies just have a totally different feel to them compared to steel coasters that is impossible to describe and now I really want an Australian park to add one to their line up (IMO every park with a good sized lineup should have a woodie in their somewhere) I don't think they are dated as some people have said, its just a different construction and mechanical method which gives them a unique feel.
  2. Not really actually, MW handles the crowds well on any given day, so you can enjoy everything. Actually, if you go during school holidays there is greater chance SE would be running two trains, and if that's the go then you can potentially wait less then what you would on a quiet day (since they only run one train). But, just go whenever, maybe I'm just a little deluded coming off experiencing large American park crowds, but in the scheme of things MW is fine for the most part. I have been during the summer holidays and got to do lots, this is winter....
  3. With regard to that point about including WWW as part of DW, yeah it would be money focused since the charge for an individual park is potentially greater than what they could add on the current DW admission for adding the water park as an included attraction. Personally I prefer that water parks and theme parks be kept as separate attractions, if it's a cold day I'd prefer not to be subsidising a water park with a higher ticket price covering both water and theme park. The opposite could be said for your ticket subsidising expensive theme park rides on a hot day when all you feel like doing is swimming and sliding.
  4. In case ash was a bit to subtle, it just like to point out that on his website he plans to have an interview with the owners of Jamberoo. Has everybody got that? Yes, ash is having an interview with the owners of Jamberoo. You should show a bit of understanding, organising interviews with the owners of Jamberoo is distracting, it can cause distracted posting and uncontrollable plugging. Just to make sure everybody is clear on this ASH IS INTERVIEWING THE OWNERS OF JAMBEROO! Also, to rub it in peoples faces that ash is having an actual interview, with the owners of Jamberoo of course, I might post a few smilies to show his smugness :) :)
  5. Well according to the calendar in Windows, last Saturday was the 16th of June. In other words, 16th what was the date when did air it what when.
  6. Congratulations Richo! I first came here when I stumbled across Orphan Rocker on rcdb, and a Google search of that led me to the Total Thrills forums, my interest in theme parks had sort of waned a bit, but the presence of an Australian focused site was a breath of fresh air. Now, if you guys want to see how this place started out, have a look at http://web.archive.org/web/20020602133458/...talthrills.com/
  7. Neither, I think it is referring to a fast flowing version of something like Calypso Beach.
  8. I think the razor blade story is just an urban legend and it seems to be associated with nearly every water slide place (I have heard this story with respect to some local water slides in my town) I don't believe them, especially since the workers at these places would probably walk up the slide and conduct a check each morning anyway. Try googling "razors in waterslides".
  9. Well, not an actual coaster but a water slide of the same type as "Super Tubes Hydro Coaster" at WWW.
  10. Yeah, quite a few people were doing that (I opted to wear a top after being sunburned the day before, I hate the feeling of sun rays on burnt skin, luckily pipeline plunge was nice and cool. I think a wetsuit top might not go to well on the slides though, it would cause too much friction. And Andy, just a tip, but just put all your questions about WWW in the original topic you made, rather than making lots of individual topics that are hard to keep track of.
  11. Nah nah, don't apologise, there is no rule against bumping old threads if you are actually doing it for a good reason. Bumping is when you make a post just to get attention. But cheap again! How long could they maintain this for? I guess since they are heading into winter something like this could stimulate pass buying.
  12. Why? Was it an exclusive preview you saw? If not, I wouldn't mind hearing about it since It probably wont be going any more by the time I visit MW again.
  13. I would imagine it being similar to their existing hotel; http://www.nickhotel.com
  14. ^Exactly, I even remember being able to ride tandem, so they used to be even more family friendly, bring that back! (please dont quote "insurance issues, you can do it at the Beachouse in Adelaide) I think all the bigger rides at WnW have dwarfed them, but people dont seem to mind having 4 slow body slides at WWW, the only difference is at WWW they are attached to a water playground. With Joz's idea, I think maybe some enclosed body slides of a similar grade would be fun, twister is the only alternative and it is too intense for a lot of people.
  15. [10 year old come back] It is so. [/10 year old come back] No, it not, especially considering by the time you had posted it somebody else had edited it out (I had to look at the page history to see what you were talking about) All you end up doing is draw attention to people who vandalise Wikipedia, encouraging other people to do it.
  16. ^LOL good point, I forgot about the rings you can float in...I guess what I was saying is that tubes aren't necessary to use the Cave of Waves, you can just swim around, but you can use tubes if you want to.
  17. This is Wikipedia we are talking about here, anybody can go along and write stupid stuff, its not really worth starting a topic about.
  18. ^I vote for a topic merge. While I know they have been demolished, the website did say they are reopening in September, so we can hope they are reassembled by then. If not
  19. Woah, it's sounding pretty major if they are fully closing a ride for 3-4 months. I hope that they don't get rid of the WW mountain flumes though, despite the park having more sophisticated rides I still really like the flumes; confusing layouts, a nice tropical setting and plenty of sloshing around. I am sort of imagining that they will build the new slides above the old ones, there would be no reason why they couldn't.
  20. Hey, On the rides that use 4 person "cloverleaf" rafts ('The Rip' and 'The Green Room') you can ride in a group of 2, 3, or 4 so you would be fine. Sometimes though a single rider may be put in with your group of 3. On a side note, when you go in a group of three if often happens that the person sitting with nobody opposite ends up going down backwards The 'Super Tubes Hydrocoaster' uses a 3 person Boat which can run with 2 or 3 people. On the "Temple of Huey" you have the choice of using a single person ring or a two person raft, these slides are smaller than the rest, hence they don't need the big rafts. Have fun, after your visit could you post up what you thought of the place? Its always interesting to hear about peoples experiences with WWW. Nope, things such as the BRO racer, Pipeline plunge, Cave of Waves and Wiggle Bay dont even use tubes. The parks offical website: http://www.whitewaterworld.com.au has heaps of info about the place, and is a good place to start for any other things you may want to know.
  21. Thats pretty much what I think too, flat rides are OK, but just "OK" if you get what I mean. I find particularly with the rides that involve horizontal spinning that they are fun for the first minute or so, and then you just feel sick. Normally they provide back up to key attractions at a park (Eg at DW with the flat rides in Ocean Parade) but at LP they comprise pretty much all the line up. Its funny how at both LPs the only real memorable rides are the old ones, the newer ones are just stock standard stuff. I would be happy if they just kept the mouse, rotor and coney island, and replaced the rest with higher quality rides with an authentic old time carnival theme (you would look closely at the way LP was in the past) Since the neighbours dont like outdoor coasters, perhaps they could rebuild things like the Ghost Train and the River Caves, which would be quiet. And build proper rides in Maloneys corner. But if they could somehow do a coaster, I would look at the compact types manufactuers such as Maurer Sohne and Gerstlauer are coming out with. Actually, I think Tony was on to something with the DCA idea, but I would base it more around the paradise pier part of the park, and not other Disney rides, to get that 1930s amusement park feel. And this is partially off topic, but all this LP talk made me inclined to have a look at some pics of Big Dipper (well, pic since rcdb has only one) and this is bordering on coaster nerdery, but if you have a look at this pic: http://www.rcdb.com/ig1141.htm?picture=1 you can see that when the ride was still at LP there were actually catwalks where the first set of block brakes would go, for some reason these never made it to DW. Maybe when it was at LP they actually ran two trains??? Edit: Oh wait, there wasn't a transfer table so having 2 trains would have been impossible.
  22. Sorry, I dont understand what you are saying with LIMs or lifthills or whatever, what has that got to do with anything? All I meant before was that you would have a queue leading in to the loading platform for the halfpipe ride like normal. Then instead of just walking down an exit ramp like a normal ride, there would be a short waterslide replacing the exit ramp. Since some people seem a bit annoyed it isn't a true water ride, just tack one on the end.
  23. This is just a random idea, but why not replace the exit ramp of the ride with a short waterslide? It could make the whole experience a bit more wet.
