We would know if DW was changing the layout, adding stuff etc because you would see pieces of track somewhere, more materials on site, signs saying something along the lines of "sorry for the inconvenience, we're improving for the future" etc. Not true, how long did Thunderbolt hang around for until they decided to scrap it? Even if you look at overseas experience you can see rides don't always get demolished straight away, I mean Flashback at SFMM is still there even though it hasn't operated for quite a while. My view on all this is that they have discovered one problem with the ride that forced its closure, and that has led them to find out that the whole ride needs overhauling, and from there there isn't enough set aside in the maintenance budget to get it fixed quickly or simply enough reason for them to put much effort into overhauling an ageing ride.

Since nothing has been posted that means not much is going on.

Any chance of getting those pics as jpg's? bmp's are a bit too big and cant be viewed from within the web browser.

Its basically a short wild mouse. Im a bit sketchy, but from the station you turn left, head up an indoor lift hill, make a u turn, and then go down a fast zig zag section typical of a wild mouse, and some of the turns go outside the mountain. Then i think there was a dip, then a section that ran over the roof of the station, then it was back into the mountain for another dip and a u turn into the brakes. It used to have an animatronic of a miner "blowing the mine" right at the start, as well as large turning gears etc that you passed on the zigzag section, but i dont remember seeing them last time (which was late 2005). Spotty can probably correct me on all this though.

How the devil did I do that?

Hmm, I guess though its not as interesting for us as we have been to the park already, It would be good for GoGoBoy as he would have only seen static images of the park. Oh, thanks for reminding me about this, i wouldn't have watched it otherwise. Unfortunately I don't have any sort of recording equipment though. Edit: Just saw it, it showed the park pretty nicely, boourns to not showing the Rip.

Huh? Im confused, when have the seats been yellow? I had a look at a pic from when the ride first opened ( http://www.roller-coaster.com.au/gallery.p...=78&image=4 ) and the seats are orange.

$1 Billion for a major project isn't that much anymore, i mean the Eastlink freeway in Melbourne is costing $2.5 Billion.

LOL sorry, I thought you had said "I don't care about the roller-coasters. I actually like The Claw more than the Giant Drop. So, Cut down!" But I dont blame you, I feel the same way since DWs coasters dont have a whole lot to love about them. Perhaps "downhill" is the wrong choice of words for describing DW, its more that they have "stagnated". I think a lot of people would miss the 90s when rides like GD and TOT were ground breaking for their time, and the park still had good/ well maintained theming, and some of those classic attractions like the bush ranger show and the bush jamboree, and the park was free of a lot of the "junk for sale" and tacky additions like the boats in the main fountain. People seem to hold this hope about the place, saying "once TB goes they can build a ..... or "once they demolish blue lagoon they can...." or "once BB finishes up they could use the space for....". But in reality, what are the odds of any of this happening? I think one thing that gives the park a bit of charm to a lot of people is this untapped potential and that it may eventually flourish into this perfect aussie park (Forumuser123;"I mean if they just gave it a bit of paint, added a couple of rides etc etc etc")...Im a bit more focused on the present though and see how the parks are now.

Big Brother Launch Show Tickets now on sale.
Gazza replied to dreamworld_rulz's topic in Theme Park Discussion
All I was saying is where the info is from so if people want to get it straight from the horses mouth they know where to go. Though, I will say that yes it was the right thing to do by putting it in this thread. Huh??? -

Thanks for that LisaLisa. Though I might add this is on the front page of the BB website anyway, so those interested would be aware of these developments. -
You sure seem to have a lot of interesting things happen to you on rides when you visit.

Giant Drop isn't a roller coaster Though, one thing I might point out, I prefer MW to DW because MW has better roller coasters (and that is a fair enough reason to prefer them IMO), but I wont get sidetracked much further in to that now. I dunno why people keep citing WWW as an addition to DW, its like saying MW is better because of AOS. They are all separate attractions, and It would have been MLTs call to build the water park, not DW. To put it another way, If i were to go and spend $62 on a day pass to DW how would the presence of WWW make my day better? I think the thing that has worried people about DW is that all they have really done in terms of major attractions is put in a flat ride and a kids dark ride, and since then, just temporary/up charge attractions. We haven't seen anything really ground breaking from DW compared to the competition. The extended closure of Eureka has also been a worry. And as spotty has said, there are quality issues with the park that cheapen the experience. Now news of this new Accelerator is definitely positive, and I would have been worried had this not been happening, so now the parks future looks a bit better.

What about Willsy? Well then dont post crap! Also your exaggerating a bit there, I mean its good when he writes trip reports or insights/tips from his knowledge of the parks. I havent said anything for ages. Well, you proved my point just then. You said people might find these extra offers as more junk to put up with, well having them here is just junk all over again. Also, I think this is all a bit hypocritical, someone posted about the Starburst BB competition and the first thing DW rulz said was that "This is old, its already been on behindBB etc...", well right here he is doing the same thing by copying stuff you can easily already get. Well, I'm hoping for something people can relate to fairly easily. Too often you find out zoo animals get given this pretentious sounding exotic name, so something a bit more conventional would be a nice change.

I thought I was being reasonable and diplomatic though, its not like I was getting agro or insulting, just giving my thoughts. well one individual is http://www.dreamworld.com.au/content/stand...?name=Copyright Yes because I was showing that people can just read it off the website so it doesnt need to be copied and pasted here as a slab. Why dont you? In the past you have commented on the high cost of living at present, and defended (quite rightly) those in search of discounts. Since the newsletter often contains discounts it would be useful for you to recieve. My logic is that if people dont frequent the DW website and arent signed up to the newsletter, then they wouldn't particularly care about what DWs offers are, hence they wouldnt really be interested in the same stuff being copied onto here either. Well, people have found it annoying, does that count? Thats a bit like saying e-mail spam is ok in your inbox because if you dont like it you dont have to read it. I just dont see why the forums need to be an extension of DW Rulz's email account and we need to get every single thing that arrives in there about BB or DW or whatever copied straight on to here, i mean, write something of your own.
-
Well, this is what is off the DW website, and it is exactly the same. IMO its ok to post this sort of stuff if people are going to talk about ("Hey, i think they should name the tiger cubs ____ and ____") But if its purely for informing others than it is not really necessary since everyone gets the DW newsletter (or can easily sign up if they want to find out about DWs offers etc) or can visit the DW website themselves. I know you mean well, but its not really needed by anyone.

Hmm, I have here the TV guide that comes in the Sunday Herald Sun, and word for word the listing for the great outdoors on the 21st is as follows; 6.30 The Great Outdoors Take an Alpine Pacific Drive through New Zealand's most spectacular scenery. See Australia's latest $60 million theme park - the Gold Coast's White Water World. It seems they had listed stories from both this week and next week. I dont know why people sat through the whole show though, after the opening saying what was being show that episode not mentioning WWW, and no hint of it coming up in the thing before each ad break I gave up.

Yeah, I mean something is wrong if they are looking at small things like using less fog juice to cut costs, why not look at their whole operation and drive profits that way?

It always sort of bugs me when people describe things like this as an "eyesore". I mean its a ferris wheel for goodness sake, what is so ugly about it? Is it the circular bit, or is it the legs that hold it up? Help me out here. Personally, I consider an eyesore something dilapitdated, or something that has been left as a relic while the rest of an area has moved foward, or something totally unsuited to its location. The eye fills none of these categories. However, I think the ride was never going to be permanent even if the GC council had approved it for good, since it is only a transportable ride and is operated by another company. Hopefully the council will allow for a permanent one (hopefully an Intamin since all their wheels tend to be quite good) with better integration into the park (Eg with a nice modern waiting area, perhaps indoors so it is a true all weather attraction)

Because maybe Richo likes having control over his content and doesn't just slap up a 4 line 'news story' without any sort of structure or close editing. Yes people can write articles and submit them to him so he could get as much help as he needs in that respect if people offer it, but again it comes down to the editing process. Often Richos articles arent up straight away, but they tend to have a bit of research put into them and look at the bigger picture, rather than just being the same thing everyone else is saying. And hey, your site doesn't have any DW Sumatran tiger stories so maybe you need to update more. It was obvious the only reason you posted the first comment was to promote your own site.
-
I don't get the point you are trying to make, Joz just posted an article from the GC bulletin, then you abridged/copied chunks/added spelling errors to that article and posted it on your site, then made it sound as if you had "seen" it (how you can see an article you put on your site yourself as news I dont know) Theme park news should copy allittle (sic) less

Yes it is: Remember, the township of Coomera is just south (heck, even the primary school has a nice view of the rip), there are all those gated communities to the east and a community sports park and upper Coomera is over the freeway to the west. That sounds close enough to a residential area to me. But, as for the council decision, I think a solution could be an amendment to the planning scheme to create a clear distinction between rides and other sorts of structures (apartments etc. ) as they dont deserve to be in the same category. And as for the current eye staying, well I thought everyone hated it when parks put in transportable rides as permanent attractions... Id rather see it replaced with a ride like the sun wheel at DCA for something different. Another thing to consider is the fact a wheel twice as high is opening in Melbourne, so whether something like this is really much of an asset to SW is questionable.

I dont think It was a computer crash that caused the said incident, obviously if the cars were stopping in the brakes then the system was doing what it was supposed to. Also, just because the ride has been down for a few hours on a few days doesn't mean it was caused by computer problems. I think Occam's Razor is true in this case and people are right in saying that the frequent stops were caused by a hold up in the station. It has a cascade effect sort of like congestion forming on a freeway. The reason it is such a headache is because once trains start stacking it is very difficult to catch up in the station and get trains out of the way so the ones behind have a clear run. They most likely would have just dispatched a bunch of trains empty to save a bit of time and clear the blocks so they could get back into the rhythm. And to end this debate on how the blocks work, well on the main part of the ride it would wait for the block to be clear before letting a train though, but like on most roller coasters with multiple load and unload platforms then the block rules are bent a little and the train behind just tails the one in front when the one in front is dispatched. Millennium Force actually does this with its seperate load and unload station; when the train that has just been loaded is dispatched the empty one behind follows it with a small gap, rather than waiting for the loading station to be completely clear before moving foward. Its a similar thing happening on scooby doo and not a case of trains being "paired", its just to save a bit of time since its fairly safe to have low speed station blocks occupied by more than one train for a second as they both move foward.

Actually, they are quite different, the one for LW is just one big flat platform that moves up and down vertically and nothing else. For floorless coasters, its made out of metal as DjSupersleuth said, but its split down the middle into two halves that meet to form the floor you can walk on to load in, when the train needs to leave the floor splits and folds down either side of the track into a vertical position out of the way. Here is a set of images taken from www.themeparkreivew.com 's onride video of Daemon that shows it in action.
