  1. The Emporium has been repainted to remove the bright red, replaced with a better looking brown which gives it a better vibe. Apparently the whole of main street is being repainted to make it look more timeless. I think it looks great, and am happy to see the rest get painted the same. (thanks to Gold Coast Theme Parks on FB)
  2. Not sure when this happened, but it appears the three tiers of Dreamworld annual passes have increased in price. With the Saver Pass $129, Value Pass $139 and the Locals Pass $149. https://www.dreamworld.com.au/tickets
  3. Normally in April Dreamworld runs the Street Food Festival, which I find is a fun event that adds to a pretty good day. I've noticed that they have removed the 'Street Food Festival' from there 'What's on?' page and the website link is dead. It does seem Dreamworld is doubling down on Spring County Fair and Winterfest - maybe the food festival is dead?
  4. With the new Rivertown comes an upgrade to the Billabong Restraurant. The current concept show an upgraded Restaurant, function room and a Taboo room.
  5. Dreamworld Golden Years has just posted a very cryptic teaser on his Facebook page. "Today is a historic day in the future of Dreamworld. Stay tuned, we will have some exciting updates to share later today." He generally isn't into too much hyperbole... so any speculations? Park has been sold?
  6. Premier Steven Miles today launched a boost for Gold Coast tourism operators in the wake of severe weather. The GC Summer FUNds initiative is backed by a government investment of $2.5 million which will see 50,000 $50 vouchers up for grabs. 7. The first attraction maintenance schedules have been published on the Dreamworld website. So far, nothing out of the ordinary.
  8. Does anyone have any pov footage of the Eureka Mountain Mine Ride at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast? If so, it would be greatly appreciated if you could send it to me as I have looked everywhere and only found one very shaky video.
  9. With Dreamworld opening dreamland and River town under construction, It couldn't hurt to start guessing what will come next when they come to invest in the next major CAPEX projects. Below is some ideas I had for what I think could help the parks lineup moving forward. Stage 2 River town: - 2025 MDMC rethemed with new spinning trains to make it more comfortable and to suit the theme of river town. The paddle Wheeler re opens (Super wishful thinking, with the park focusing on going back under that nostalgia route you never know) Then I believe a log flume or Chute the Chutes in the back half of Ocean Parade with a Mack Twist N Splash attraction to fix and bring life to the back half of ocean parade. (This would take up the old trolls and Flow rider land). The Mack Twist N Splash could even go in Wipeouts spot if required, if not needed a flat ride could go there in 2027. - 2026 Following this the park would need another major thrilling flat ride (Maybe a Mondial Ventura). Either in Wipeout's plot, Buzzsaw's plot, or even closer to the old log flume plot. -2027 Large thrilling roller coaster - 2028 Curious what people think or predict might come next?
  10. I thought I would throw this out there as an interesting observation. Every summer since TRRR Dreamworld has held a summer event, a Circus, Monster Trucks (geez these weren't the best...), the jet pack people etc.. This was clearly a way to get people in and it does seem to work. This summer it seems like Dreamworld isn't doing anything 'special' for January. I think this is Dreamworld believing the lineup is strong enough now to bring people in (and Dreamland is opening with new attractions) but I do find this interesting because it means Dreamworld now has school holiday events every break except January. I think it's a premature move personally especially at MW has Hooray for Hollywood but keen on what others think.
  11. You lazy bitch. Wristband system seems relatively easy. If they're going to sit with a pay to play model at night, I wonder if it would be easier to have a code scanner at the entrance - you could purchase online or via a ticket vending machine, and then just scan your code to enter? They had this sort of thing at Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier and it worked pretty well. I didn't expect that they'd open dodgems as well, but I guess its another step towards night operations, and offering more than just food trucks. keen to see how this pans out.
  12. So it was on this day a year ago that Dreamworld made its $60 million announcements of the Dreamland Parents Centre, Dreamworld Flyer, Kenny & Belinda’s Dreamland, Ocean Parade Expansion and Rivertown. I know we’re only halfway through the whole construction process, but with everything’s that’s already open, under construction and any new information we’ve found out over the past year, how does everyone know feel about these announcements now? There were a few people on here that had strong opinions about some of the announcements, but also a lot of people were very excited by it all. Personally at the time, I was unsure about the Dreamworld Flyer and Ocean Parade Expansion. But seeing them complete, I think the Dreamworld Flyer was a good decision as it’s transformed the front of the park for the better. And while I still have the opinion the splash pad should have gone in the existing Ocean Parade area, I do think it works better being close to Dreamland and it still leaves a large area of the park for future developments. I had already expected a Dreamworld redevelopment, but I think Dreamland has turned out to be a nice project, and has allowed the kids area to become more complete. The theming and immersion isn’t quite to the level of Dreamworks, but I still think it’s turned out well. And having seen the overall layout of Rivertown, that’s made me even more excited for its opening.
  13. Under the accessibility page on their website, Dreamworld have created a document called ‘The Dreamworld Visual Story’. They describe it as carefully-curated guide for our guests from how to get here, where to park, right through to what to expect on our rides and who to ask for help if needed. They have two versions of the document, a full version and a more brief version. I have read through both versions of these documents and it’s fantastic to see the park invest time into creating these. On the scheme of things, it’s something small they have done, but I can see it making a massive difference for a lot of guests that need this kind of information. It’s been very well written and I congratulate the park on doing this. The Visual Story can be found here: https://www.dreamworld.com.au/park-information/accessibility-information
  14. The title describes the thing. Dreamworld has launched a new online Merch store. Shop from five different outlets in the park including the Main Street Emporium, Tiger Island Bazaar, Fairytale Treasures, and the Lego certified Store (though the lego store redirects to a different site, the remaining in-park outlets are all hosted on the same site). Dreamworld Merch Shop
  15. Not sure if there is already a thread like this but do you think they will incorporate Motocoaster into Rivertown? If so, some possible ideas on what they could do and hopefully at minimal cost. I’ve put some ideas here, just a track recolour, Quad trains, one piece of theming (an Aztec/Mayan gate over a portion of ride) and recolour of the shades on the launch and queue. It’s a rough job done on my phone, but hopefully brings an idea. Do you think they will do anything with this ride to bring into the theme of Rivertown or Gold Rush, or just wait until it’s retirement?
  16. Ardent Leisure Group has created 3 new business names. Ardent has also applied to trademark the new names. Is this Ardent Leisure morphing into another company or something else? Maybe trying to shed some of the stink, tied to the Ardent name?
  17. IP Australia has given us early information on Dreamworld's future plans in the past and now we have a new application for a new Trademark. Habitat by Dreamworld. Dreamworld are linking 2 classes to the application. Goods & Services Class 41: Wildlife sanctuaries; Animal parks and reserves (zoos); Animal exhibitions; Theme park services; Amusement park services; Leisure park services; Entertainment services; Provision of entertainment facilities; Holiday camp services (entertainment) Class 43: Hospitality services (accommodation); Arranging of accommodation for tourists; Provision of tourist accommodation; Reservation of tourist accommodation; Resort accommodation; Arranging holiday accommodation; Rental of holiday accommodation; Inn keeping (bar, restaurant and accommodation); Restaurant services; Restaurant services for the provision of fast food; Booking of hotel accommodation; Hotel accommodation services; Provision of hotel accommodation; Hotels; Resort hotel services; Holiday camp services (lodging); Holiday camp services (temporary accommodation) I wonder if this is Dreamworld is having another stab of providing accommodation after the last attempt went down the drain.
  18. Dreamworld has tendered out the first stage of the tiger island redevelopment. I'm not going to post every image as much of the work is back of house all minor upgrades like added roofs.
  19. In recent years there has been discussion about how Dreamworld's ride count significantly decreasing due to extensive attraction retirements. But with all the recent additions and refubishments, I thought I'd devise a full list of the parks rides to see how it has changed over the years. For the purpose of the list, I am only noting rides that are categoriesed as 'rides' as per the parks website. I have also selected the 2023 (present), early 2016 and late 2006. Where an attraction has replaced another, they are shown in the same row. When a ride has been demolished, but the land remains empty, the corosponding column is left blank. 2023 2016 2006 Steel Taipan River Rapids River Rapids - - Mine Ride - BuzzSaw - Giant Drop Giant Drop Giant Drop The Claw The Claw The Claw Gold Coaster Hot Wheels Cyclone Serpent Slayer Pandamonium Angry Beavers Tail Spin Tail Spin Reef Diver Motocoaster Motocoaster - Sky Voyager - - Vintage Cars Vintage Cars Motocoaster Dreamworld Express Dreamworld Express Dreamworld Express Kenny's Forest Flyer Escape Coaster Runaway Reptar Shockwave Shockwave - Deep Sea Dodgems Skadoosh Bumper Beach Humpty-Go-Round Gingy's Glider - Belinda's Tree House Jungle Jam Rainforest Rampage Seabed Splash - - Tea Cup's Tea Cup's Tea Cup's Big Red Boat Big Red Boat Big Red Boat Play School Wheel - - Banana's Carousel Shrek's Caousel Nick O-Round Banana's Fun Maze - - Big Red Planes Dronkey's Flyers Dora's Sea Planes - Wipeout Wipeout - Tower of Terror Tower of Terror - Log Ride Log Ride - Big Red Car Big Red Car - Hop & Hoot - - Sword Swing Swinger Zinger - - Vortex - - Paddle Wheeler - - Blues Skidoo So as of today, there are 22 rides. In 2016, there was 25 rides. And in 2006, there was 24 rides. By the end of 2024, with the additon of Big Red Boat Coaster, Dreamworld Flyer and Jungle Rush (but the closure of Tea Cups and Boat Ride) there will be 23 rides. (If the list doesn't display well on your phone, rotate it to landscape or view on a larger screen)
  20. Ardent Leisure is claiming it's moving ahead with re-zoning the land where Dreamworld is located. I've searched and can't find any application to re-zone the land. Ardent's presentation gives very limited information on the details of the new zones to be created, but once the application is available for viewing, I'll post the details of each new zone to be created. But for now, a mixed zone purpose in the code is for the use of a mix of activities, including business, retail, tourist accommodation. associated services and low impact industrial use.
  21. A battle is brewing for control of Dreamworld theme park owner Ardent Leisure with activist investor David Kingston requisitioning the company’s share register to drum up discontent over what he claims is poor performance by management. Mr Kingston has written to Ardent shareholders demanding that the company return its $141 million of idle cash via a buyback to support its ailing stock price, or alternatively, a straight capital return. He also wants Ardent to actively pursue merger and acquisition options, or a sale of key assets including its land. Ardent issued a profit upgrade on July 10, which Mr Kingston said happened after he requisitioned the share register. In that update, Ardent said it would deliver its best performance since financial year 2016, when four people were killed on one of the key attractions at Dreamworld. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation excluding one-offs would roughly be at breakeven for the full year. But Mr Kingston said the visitation was only 1.2 million visitors in financial year 2023 – half the visitors recorded in 2016. “In financial year 2016, Ardent’s theme parks were successful with attendances of 2.4 million visitors, which provided the necessary revenue to deliver EBITDA of $35 million,” he said. “For a relatively high fixed cost business, the failure to recover anywhere near financial year 2016 attendance levels is a major problem.” Mr Kingston said Ardent’s $230 million market capitalisation implied its parks and surplus land are valued at only $57 million, after deducting the $141 million in cash and a $32 million valuation on its Skypoint Tower, and adding back the $50 million in capital expenditure management have committed to putting into the business. He said the current management team had failed to deliver on promises made to turn the company around when they took over in 2017. “Six years later, that cited opportunity has failed to materialise by a massive margin – maybe the chairman’s 2017 plan itself comes from a ‘dream world’,” Mr Kingston said. Ardent hit back, saying Mr Kingston and Charles Kingston’s K Capital own less than half a per cent of its shares, many of which were accumulated over the past month. It will continue to assess options to return capital to shareholders, as well as work with the Queensland government on park development opportunities. Ardent chief executive Greg Yong said there was no need to rush any M&A ahead of securing the approvals. “Our view is that’s the first step in us unlocking that value. We want to do that as expeditiously as we can, but we’re not in a hurry to rush out and sell off land. The land is not getting any less valuable in this part of the world,” Mr Yong said. In his letter, Mr Kingston compares Dreamworld’s performance with that of Movie World and Sea World owner Village Roadshow, which was acquired by private equity outfit BGH Capital in 2020 and subsequently delisted. Parts of the land on which the Village parks sit were sold and leased back to unlock value for investors. “[It is] bizarre that in the second half of 2023, Ardent delivered zero EBITDA, which is burning cash post-maintenance capex and head office costs, when its peer Village Roadshow parks is performing strongly,” Mr Kingston said. But Mr Yong, who previously worked at Village, said it was difficult to substantiate any comparison to the now-unlisted competitor, which has not published accounts. Mr Kingston emphasised his role in having helped to broker BGH’s acquisition of Village Roadshow, saying other private equity outfits including Blackstone and Pacific Equity Partners saw value in the theme parks sector. Former Village Roadshow executive John Kirby is also on the Ardent register. Mr Kirby sold some of his holding in Village Roadshow after its acquisition, and has not been a part of its operations since he was sidelined when his nephew Clark Kirby took up the role as chief executive after a bitter family feud in 2019. (Ayesha de Kretser Financial Review) Is the the start of the end for Ardent Leisure?
  22. Just was at dreamworld and saw the corroboree theatre had a construction wall and saw that that there were workers on site. Dunno what was happening but here are some pics.
  23. It's taken me years but by chance I found it in a bag in the garage. I was moving house very slowly for a long period of time and it's literally the last thing I found 10 minutes ago. This has a POV on the tape but I no longer have a way to even see what's on these tapes to extract it. I am 50 now and was in my early 20's when this was filmed. It's video Hi-8 It's analog and the tape was in a sealed Coles cooler bag, so even though the bag was filthy the tape honestly has no dust on it and should work completely fine. I mean it's been in the shade, in a zipped cooler bag. The blurred text was not me trying to hide my name LOL, that's just how old the tape is. If anyone in Melbourne has a Hi 8 Cam they are willing to lend, that would be a start and the only thing I can think of for now. Any other ideas are welcome. Note, I am leaving in 9 days to go OS for a 7 week coaster trip, but maybe when I get back? If anyone can help out before I leave, I will do what needs to be done to get this incredibly rare POV on YouTube within the next few days. I do have a car and can drive. I am pretty sure there will be other personal stuff on there I don't want people to see, otherwise I'd just drop the tape off to the nearest person who has a way to access it, but no, I have to go through it myself, sorry. I found all 3 tapes, that is a pic of one, so I have to go through all of them to find the right one which was with my friend Mark when we took the POV and that was a trip where we had driven from Melbourne to QLD in an EB Falcon. i.e. a long time ago. But yes these are definitely the tapes I have been searching for for over 2 years. Will wait for your thoughts.
