  1. Thought it’d be best to start a thread for UTT/ Platinum reviews. Just so we can the spoilers out of the main FN thread.
  2. I am going today to hopefully ride will post it it’s open when I get there this morning 👌
  3. It's been a while since any rumours or news relating to the Entertainment Precinct and this is what I’ve found out to date. On the 28 February 2017, the Council issued a decision notice agreeing to apply a superseded planning scheme to the carrying out of assessable development that is, exempt development (now ‘accepted) The decision made by the Council relates to a proposed Tourist Facility (Theme Park Associated Restaurant and Dining Precinct). WHERE VILLAGE IS AT: Village is now seeking to extend the approval until 9 February 2027 and the request for extension is based on the following grounds. 1. Turbulence in the local and national theme park sector has resulted in delay or reconsideration of future developments occurring within the Theme Park. The six year extension is considered necessary in order to provide the applicant with enough time to monitor the theme park market recovery and to progress the detailed design and construction of the development. 2. Village lodged a development application seeking approval for an overflow car parking facility on land located at 12 Michigan Drive. An appeal in the Planning and Environment Court was lodged against the deemed refusal of this development application. 3. Village worked with the Council to negotiate an appropriate outcome that allows for the delivery of the necessary overflow car park to support ongoing theme park operations. 4. The appeal was finalised and a development permit for the overflow car park facility granted March 2019. The uncertainty created by these protracted negotiations associated with the approval of the proposed overflow car parking facility has meant the Village has been unable to progress the theme park hotel and associated restaurant and dining precinct. Given the overflow car parking facility was recently approved, Village can recommence its internal business case and delivery considerations associated with the theme park hotel and associated restaurant and dining precinct. The work was placed on hold whilst the overflow car park matter was resolve, a substantial extension to the current period is required, to allow for the internal business case and funding to be progress, detailed design, construction and ultimately commencement of the use. WHAT'S IN THE ENTERTAINMENT PRECINCT: The development involves: A 9-storey theme park hotel with a total of 398 suites, with a total building height of 32 metres. The hotel includes the following guest services and facilities: Ground Level: Reception, lobby, administration office, business centre, bar, function centre, café, kitchen, kids club, amenities, gym and hotel back of house facilities; Level 1: Ramp access and elevated walkway providing guest connection to the adjoining restaurant and dining precinct building and theme park entrance; Levels 1 to 8: Common lounge area on each level for indoor guest recreation; and Extensive outdoor swimming facilities, outdoor guest recreation areas and feature landscaping plantings. A 3-storey restaurant and dining precinct building incorporating a ground level café and upper level restaurant/dining room. Guest access to the restaurant and dining precinct is provided via an elevated walkway above the proposed porte-cochere, which will provide a prominent architectural feature. As I noted already Village are conducting an internal business case so what I have listed could change and probably will but it does give you an idea of the size of the precinct.
  4. VRS Holdings Pty Ltd took City of Gold Coast to court to resolve the overflow carpark. Earlier this week the appeal was resolved in favour of the development of the proposed carpark by Movie World on their Kopps Road property. The Court Order regarding the appeal is available on line, however the changes from what was initially proposed include:- - concessions regarding the number of bays (774 now 663); - Sound attenuation - pedestrian bridge access (required before use commencement). - improved landscaping, fencing and signage conditions. - security, lighting and hours of operation. Ultimately after several Alternative Dispute Resolution meetings (and experts providing advice) there were insufficient grounds remaining for the City to successfully defend its refusal.
  5. We are headed back to the Gold Coast in two weeks. We were there last September, I am pretty darn fat, but I was able to fit in every ride at all the theme parks (with some squishing from the attendants) except for The Claw at Dreamworld, but I didn’t test the actual ride, just the tester seat. The Scooby Doo coaster was closed when we went, so was the Doomsday Destroyer, so I didn’t get to try those. I have a feeling I won’t fit on the Scooby doo, but I’ll give it a go. The Hypercoaster was closed when we were there too- much to our disappointment, so I have no idea how I’ll go on that one. Has anyone who hasn’t fit on the Claw fit on the Hypercoaster? Any other experiences?
  6. With this being discussed about in most topics and construction starting soon it might be time to for its own topic. We all know TopGolf is going to take up a lot of land but where will this baby go. From what information we have out there, I believe that TopGolf Australia will be based on the one located in Las Vegas. To get this topic going I have scaled the images together using AutoCAD and tried to position it into likely locations. This is the location I think some people think it will go. Only thought I have on this one is why fence the swamp if you're going to need to pull it down again. This options makes some sense to me but is does mean the number 1 filming tank needs to relocated and it’s not your everyday backyard pool. On the flip side, removing the filming tank could open up the whole area up to MW. Overflow car park. This could be why MW is planning a new car park. I would think MW would want the new car park finished first before any constructed happened in this area. MW saying construction to start this year might be referring to constructing the car park in readiness to resume the current overflow car park. Which leaves current area behind AOS. We know a new show is coming and maybe MW have new plans for the animals. In this location I can still see 6 stables left for MW to use. Maybe AOS new show will only need half the amount of animals in it. @AlexB can I have an image of the new sound stage. This could all be undone by its location.
  7. An interesting article from The Sydney Morning Herald: The article which brought this "feud" to light 5 days ago only refers to the selling of Village Roadshow Pictures, "Village Roadshow's British marketing business, its stake in the American iPic Theatres premium cinema outfit, and its Hollywood holdings" as the closest thing to John Kirby's proposed 'break up' of Village Roadshow which is referred to in the above article. Is that what is meant by "break up"? Or is it the 1st stage of the "break up"? Or would the company split in 1 go forming a new theme park-cinema-studios-only company? Or will nothing happen? Regardless, the above article is interesting enough because of it's theme park-related content.
  8. One thing that I thought was downright pathetic was the Gotham City drinks station being closed in the middle of the day. Want to buy a burger meal with a soft drink, that's all well and good to buy it. But oh wait, you need to go across the road to the bar to fill up your drink cup...Unless it's after 2pm, then you have to go to one of 2 food outlets still open (bakery and newsstand, and wait 20 minutes to be served). Good job guys...
  9. Some interesting points from the results presentation: This was written in the 'Cost Reduction' section of the 'FY19 Outlook'. Could this mean less operational time of the rides in financial year 2018/2019? Also, TopGolf's attendance is stated as 25,000 people in the last financial year. TopGolf was only open for 19 days last financial year so it's average attendance is 1316 people per day so far. Based on the current attendance and revenue, each TopGolf visitor spends $36 per visit. TopGolf's maximum capacity is 540 (90 bays of 6 people) and since bays are booked hourly (over, assuming, a 10 hour period - 9am to 7pm), that means it's maximum daily capacity is 5400. Minimum capacities are 90 (hourly) & 900 (10 hours). People are very likely to be attending as groups as based on the capacities and attendance statistics, if everyone occupied the bays by themselves, TopGolf would be operating over capacity! The larger the groups, the more bays available. It's most likely people attend TopGolf with just 1 other person - in this situation, they are more likely to spend on food and beverage/souvenirs on weekdays, whilst extremely unlikely on Friday/weekends (This is because 1 hour of TopGolf costs more than the $36 cost of an average visit for each person). The larger the group, the more likely you are to spend on food and beverage/souvenirs. If the group is at least 3 people in size, purchasing food & beverage/souvenirs will very likely happen but decreases in likelihood on Fridays/weekends particularly after 2pm (This is, again, because TopGolf's hourly rate increases). In their results presentation, for TopGolf, they mentioned their desire to: Wet 'n' Wild Sydney made it's first loss ever - $1,000,000 - whilst attendance drops again by 21,000 people to 463,000 people per season (approximately 4000 people per day on average). People on average spend 30 cents more at Wet 'n' Wild Sydney than at TopGolf Gold Coast. Let's hope the new owners can fix that park! Gold Coast theme parks' attendance dropped by 378,000 people to 4,582,000 people per year (approximately 12,600 people per day on average). VRTP spent and earned more than last financial year on these theme parks but their profit decreased by $10.1 million. On average, people spent $59.25 per visit to the VRTPs on average. I'm expecting VRTP to be financially recovered around the same time DW also is. This graph is also interesting: However, this is concerning (especially in regards to next year's Viking's Revenge Flume Ride replacement) (from the 'Theme Parks - Outlook' section): In short, don't expect anything extravagant in the next 12 months. Australian Outback Spectacular's "New exciting low capital expenditure..." show to open this financial year: Also, in their preliminary annual report (mainly the media release section): Just my opinion but if your most important ticket category is the season pass, I'd expect the theme park's quality to decline. Another "new low cost" attraction, HyperCoast Walk, is mentioned & is hoped it will increase season pass sales. In the 'Theme Parks Performance Summary' section, TopGolf Gold Coast is mentioned again: It also mentions TopGolf had $2.2 million in one-off pre-opening expenses, which could mean it theoretically only made a profit so far of $100,000 but I wouldn't read too much into that figure yet as it only was open for 19 days last financial year. This may please regular visitors to the parks (from the 'Theme Parks - Outlook' section): Also, this, in how they choose new attractions: Page 29 mentions Village Roadshow's ownership in the Australian TopGolf sites has increased from 66.67% to 96.3% since the 13th of August 2018. The penultimate page mentions the final annual report is released on the 22nd of October 2018 with the annual meeting held on the 23rd of November 2018.
  10. The maze that is taking over the shed where FDTD used to be is Leatherface (2017). As you're going up the lift hill on AA, Look to your right where the shed is and there is a sign that says Sawyer Farm out the front.
  11. Here are the dummies being used for test runs\ The ride looks the same but still can't figure out if this is just maitanance that every other attraction recieves or something is happening with the ride, not often test dummies are used for general maintance.
  12. This part is now no longer fenced off and has got a handicap ramp. If anyone is intrested
  13. Does anyone know if Movieworld still do the unlimited dining option for Rick's Café?
  14. After saying "the Gold Coast theme parks should take note of" Jamberoo's online park map upgrade, it seems it was the other way around but just for one aspect of it - the virtual tour. VRTP since September 2017 have allowed Google to add Street View of their parks. However, integration of this into their online park maps hasn't happened...yet (nor a live chat feature to their websites ). A list of links to access all the main attractions are below, which can be convenient for future reference. Note: If you can't move in a certain direction, refer to Google's map as they do not have Street View everywhere. However, the map's detailed routes can be conflicting with where you actually can go in Street View. Paradise Country Production Drive Parking Farmstay* Entrance Former Warner Brothers. Throwing a basketball at a hoop? It's something people can do at home. It's also in such an open space, making it look tacky. And the advertising is odd - "$5 for 3 balls. Everyone wins a prize". "Everyone"? So essentially it is 'Prize for $5'? Having not visited the Gold Coast theme parks in over 5 years, using Street View really shows how much the parks have changed with the now-targeting towards locals & an over-reliance on carnival games etc. to make revenue in most parks through repeat-visit locals. 15. Want to ask if it's operating today? This is the place... no guarantees you'll get an answer though. If you are at Movie World and can report that it's running, delayed, temporarily closed, how long the queue is or if it's one or two train operation then please share... even if no one asks.
  16. Why is Movie World's website so old and outdated like they can open the best ride in the Southern Hemisphere but they are not capable of creating a reasonable website. Like come on it is so easy these day we even have websites to do it for you.
  17. Managed to get a go on the backwards seats It was very intense and I can definitely see myself doing it again soon
  18. To put it politely, the hyped tour is a clusterfuck on night one. Full review later. I'm confident it will get better as the event goes on though. Please note - It's not all doom and gloom, this was said in the middle of a VIP experience that certainly did not seem enjoyable. In saying that, there's a lot of positives to come from the event which I'm outlining in a post further down the page. Don't give up on the event just because of some night one issues. I want nothing more than to see Fright Nights grow and improve.
  19. Time to share your pics from this year's event. I found this years event a lot harder to photograph. The lighting was a lot harder to work with, but the event seemed a bit brighter. Not really sure how that works, but I guess it poses a challenge at least. And for all my complaining last year about the purple lighting, this image was blue when I started.
  20. Fast track can now be purchased for DC rivals for $15 (one use only)
  21. Early access for annual pass holders can now be booked from the park's website. 8:30am access to the park, running for two weeks from next week and then on the weekends for a few more.
  22. Event just finished, will do a full proper review tomorrow but I will say this Jigsaw is my favourite maze out of all the mazes so far and I think it will be the maze that will please a lot of people UTT Experience is much better than what it was last year Didn’t get the chance to watch any of the shows so I can’t comment on them Zombie Termination was ok, very similar to the offerings at Knott’s but I wouldn’t do it again How I rate the mazes as of the moment 1: Jigsaw 2: Conjuring 2 3: Halloween 4: FDTD IDK but Conjuring 2 and FDTD felt a lot more better tonight than what they were last year
  23. Promotional video for the dc rivals has been released but no set date of the school holidays its opening. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2nWv0YQY9Y&feature=share
