  1. With the 2023/24 season starting off with multiple changes including: - Restricting valuables from rides [Phones, Jewellery etc...] - Lawn replacement of the Rampage. [Rampage seat platform and minotaur being placed behind Inferno] + Rampage queue area converted into an eating/sitting area. - Sign from Goliath taken off the ride's supports and placed on the grass area. - Kraken poster scenery. [Near Tidal Wave] (Not sure if that was added before or not but I don't remember it being there before.) What are some other things about the park that are not mentioned above and does anyone have any information on an 'MI4' ride coming to the park anytime soon?
  2. Something I have noticed that has happened with rides like Toboggans and Go Karts at many parks in out country. The parks have speed limited them so you can’t go racing down the hill at maximum speed without brakes etc on a toboggan, or go very fast on a go kart. I personally don’t like how this has happened, as it takes away the fun aspect of the ride. Let’s take a look at some examples: First, let’s go to Funfields in Whittlesea which has many waterslides and rides for people to enjoy. Some of the rides they have are go karts and a toboggan track that goes down the hill. I went in February with 3 others and went on the toboggan. Even know I was going fast, it felt like I was going very slow, which is because the toboggans were apparently speed limited. I didn’t go on the go karts, but I was looking at them and Dad noticed they were going slow. Next, we will go to Adventure World in Perth that is very similar to Funfields, although they don’t have a toboggan. One of the rides they have are go karts. I haven’t actually been yet but I have heard they were also speed-limited like the ones at Funfields which makes them much less unenjoyable. Personally, I hate the idea of speed limiting attractions of rides where people can control their own speed. Back before it used to be really fun where you could go down a hill really fast on a toboggan, but now they are speed-limited so you can only go up to a certain speed. IMO I would rather a warning where the park states they would not pay for people hurting themselves by going too fast, rather than ruining it for the thrill seekers. My dad also agrees with me and hates that rides are speed-limited so much the fun is taken away. What do you think?
  3. Time to do another "big" poll, this time with one of the most popular ride types in the country. Vote by Sunday.
  4. Thought I would start this up for fun. Each Saturday I list two rides from two different parks, and people vote what is best. Voting will close on Thursdays, and on Fridays the results are revealed. One ride is saved and one is turned into paperclips. For example, it could be Superman Escape v Steel Taipan one week. If ST wins it would be added to the list while Superman would be removed. Clones will be counted as one choice, not two. Also you do not need to have ridden the coaster to vote, but it would be good if you have. Let's start off with... TNT (Gumbuya World) vs. Kenny's Forest Flier (Dreamworld) In my opinion I would pick TNT. It is actually really fun and intense for a family coaster and I am glad Movie World is getting a clone. Also it goes fast the whole length of the ride while KFF seems to go slow in the second half. Remember to put results in by Thursday.
  5. This is the second last coaster poll, and I am doing these so one can be counted. Vote by Thursday.
  6. It is time to vote for a droptower to be in the all-star park. I have picked 5 of the best which will face off in the poll. Please note: Kiddy droptowers (the ones at Funfields, Aussie World, Little Leaper at Adventure World etc.) are not included. Vote by Thursday.
  7. So I was looking through the state records and found these photos on Archives of Adventure World at the State Library of Western Australia and thought I would share them all. It amazing how much the park has changed over the last 35 years. I have found different albums from different years including construction in decent quality pictures, so I thought I would share: (Pictures sourced from http://encore.slwa.wa.gov.au/iii/encore/search/C__SAdventure World__Orightresult__U__X0?lang=eng&suite=def) 30 JUL 1982 (Construction images of the park) 1983: Opening year, not the lack of shade in the opening years. 1984: 1987: This is now the animal section of the park. This is currently were Black Widow currently is. The main castle Before they painted the boat purple. Alpine Mountain, looking way different then it does today. The main Water Mountain slides Currently where Abyss, Rampage and Goliath sit. The main pool with small trees. The old train which now sits as theming in the Gold Rush section. Paddle Boats Along with this video I found show casing some old rides they had including a Cha Cha and a spider.
  8. As some members have suggested, we will make the voting in seperate threads. This week will be Big Dipper v. Abyss. You have until Tuesday to vote.
  9. So something I’ve noticed lately on various theme park podcasts and discussion groups is talk about the difference between regional “action/amusement parks” and theme parks. One notable example is a recent podcast episode I listened to that spoke about Gumbuya World’s new coasters. The hosts claimed that “Gumbuya has transcended it’s action park status and is now a proper theme park” with the addition of these two new attractions. I disagree with this statement. In my view, Gumbuya has always been a well themed park with dedicated “lands” and areas just as any legitimate theme park would and I’ve always classified it as such. I don’t think simply adding one type of ride should suddenly change the entire category the park is labeled under. Meanwhile, I’ve also seen other people claim that Gumbuya needs at least 4 or 5 more major attractions before it can be classed as a true theme park. So that’s got me thinking, what truly makes a “theme park” a proper theme park and at what point does a park like Gumbuya cross-over to become universally regarded as a theme park instead of a simple action park? Is it when a certain level of theming is installed? When a certain amount of rides and attractions are brought in? Does it matter what kinds of attractions the park has? Does layout have anything to do with it? There are parks like Adventure World and Funfields which have fantastic theming and story telling in their rides and tick a lot of the “theme park” boxes for me, yet I’m sure many still see them as action/amusement parks. At the same time, there are other parks that have coasters and big attractions but are widely regarded as simple amusement parks. To give my opinion, I see parks like Adventure World, Adventure Park, Funfields, Gumbuya World, Aussie World, Magic Mountain and Jamberoo as a unique “Australian style” of theme park (similar to how Europe and the US have distinctive styles of theme parks) as let’s face it, it’s what the majority of our parks are like and isn’t really replicated the same way anywhere else (particularly the wide open spaces and mashup of dry rides and water rides sharing the same space). I’m interested to hear your thoughts and opinions on this matter.
  10. Adventure World held the first of its four AW Nights for January on Saturday Night from 6.30-11 pm. Entry was through the prepaid ticket gate off the main car park. There were a couple of greeter characters, like my friend Magnus Danger Magnus and some dancing girls. The band from last year returned as well as a guy playing the steel drums. They had a lady with glow in the dark hula hoops, a juggler and a fire twirler on a Segway. There were a number of food trucks, a pop up bar and the usual food outlets open. Kahuna Cafe actually did table service. It was a pretty quiet night as these events tend to get more popular as they go on. Most of the rides were open with the exception of the Dragons Kingdom kids’ area.
  11. @Tim Dasco and I paid a visit to Adventure World, today. There are no new rides. Quite a few things have had a fresh coat of paint, but lots of things haven’t. Tim was impressed with how the grass looked. There is large fencing around the haunt/maze area. Inferno is still testing. The animal part was closed, despite Aimee, the keeper, being inside and the place looking okay. Yarli’s Safaris has new paint/decals. Buccaneer Battle seems to be cracking down on any loose items(including hats and glasses). The crowds slowly built up over the day. The queue for the Grand Prix looked to be about 30 minutes.
  12. First of all, if this post belongs under another topic please close this. In true Amy fashion, I have decided to do a spur of the moment trip to Perth on Thursday - just to visit Adventure World. I’m also planning on going to their Fright Nights event on Thursday night (tickets already booked 😊). I’ve never been to Adventure World before let alone Perth, so I was hoping someone might give me some tips eg: do I need a locker or are there storage bins on the rides, etc I’m super excited about finally getting to visit as I’ve been trying to get there for over a year and a half and it just didn’t happen. Thanks in advance! Amy
  13. So at the park today with @ABYSS and noticed a few things: Sprinklers have been added to the Rampage queue which was something they were asked to do last week. Inferno tower is back up and should be opening in the coming days. Goliath merchandise Will be available next season. More crow statues have been added to Goliath area.
  14. So I found this article that confirms MI4 and the MI attractions continuing every 2 years. Fun Park rides on 40 Million investment: by https://www.businessnews.com.au/article/Fun-park-rides-on-40m-investment?destination=node/384958 Key points: $40 Million spent on the park over the last 7 years. They plan on continuing its major capital spends every two years and is considering a number of options for its next one. They have seen a massive growth in attendance. They plan on keep improving. So what do people think MI4 will be? I still think a lazy river or another Proslide.
  15. So I was looking on Adventure World's Website and they have posted some information regarding their Easter Event that takes place during the day. I think its good to see the park adding all these events to it line up to try and post attendance throughout non peek season.
  16. I thought I would make a thread to talk about the recently announced AW Nights events.
  17. Now that it has been said that MI3 is coming to AW in 2017 I think we should move it into its own thread and outside of the Kraken thread. Also put general AW chat in here. Lets begin the speculation on what the attraction is. I also want to add that Mark said that its not quite up there with a B&M or indoor coaster. But he has never ruled out a smaller coaster or family coaster. Hmmm nice wording.
  18. If anyone's interested, I have just posted a POV video on You Tube of Abyss at Adventure World with the maintenance lights on in 2013 just after it opened. https://youtu.be/0LrmircPc2E The Video is not the best quality while on ride at speed outside, as it was shot on a small handheld compact camera (Sony HX-30V). It was taken after the park had closed and it does show pretty well what is inside the building which is normally in pitch black when the ride is open. Pete.
  19. Today on Perth news (Channel 9), Adventure World was featured for a not-so-positive reason. Unfortunately a 16 year old male has broken his leg whilst on Kraken, Adventure World’s Proslide Tornado 60. The Facebook comments on the video all take different sides. Here is the link to the segment;
  20. So AW's facebook page has been updated with the following information posted about their annual Halloween event called Fright Nights. Interesting to note that this year will feature 2 events. A family friendly event on the Sunday and 2 Nights of for the 12+ group. So this year they will also have old scary moves playing in the chill out zone. Should be a fun night and looking forward to it.
  21. I saw people debating within another topic which was a better ride. This gave me an idea. Here you can nominate two different rides from different parks. The idea is the rides you nominate are competing for the same guest. For example and this is just for @reanimated35 Big Red Car @ DW vs Superman Escape @ MW are not competing for the same guest and would not battle. I will start and keep it simple for the first one. Mick Doohan's Motocoaster @ DW vs Jet Rescue @ SW If you don't agree with the nominated rides competing than call it out. It would also be cool if all the battles were not all main stream parks. I should also note this is for rides within Australia only.
