Ahh, technically the playstation two is the least powerful of all the modern day consoles. The most powerful by far is the X Box then gamecube which just comes ahead of the PS2. I could go into tremendous detail explaining this however it can easily be seen by that shimmering and flashy stuff that is characteristic of all PS2 games except for those which have trails. Because of the PS2 coming out earliest they grasped the market. Actually they would of grasped it anyway if it came out at the same time as the other consoles, because it is "sony" and the original playstation came with some very good games. However the point is that they are far behind the X-Box in every single way. The two player feature pretty much ruined modern console multiplayer for those people who decided to get one, As it would just be stupid if you had 2 modern day consoles. The 4 player multiplayer capability on XBox, Gamecube and N64 provide players undeniably with extreme fun that reaches beyond the old one and two player in pretty much every console game. Additionally all games that are rated above a 9.0 on playstation you can get on computer anyway, so whats the point. The only thing I can see in that playstation is the huge range of games (of which most are pretty stupid) that would appeal to people with specific tasted in video gaming. Oh yeah and concerning the controller, it is really uncomfortable and the vibrator rotates too fast so it doesnt feel rumbly. In a survey it was actually found to be the controller most likely to give you arthritis. XBox won of course. These are the facts, PS2 is not a powerful machine, it is bad quality, everyone had heard of a PS or PS2 breaking down. With anything else it does happen but not so often. They have bad textures, all shimmery, the only way to get rid of this is to add trails. These are annoying as it makes the game blurry and less clear (GTA3 and GTAVC). I guess the controller is alright, its just too small and you cant get a nice solid grasp on it without your fingers losing reach. Oh God I am preparing myself for the mass of excuses and lies about the benefits of the PS2 in its defence, I better do some resarch. People try not to say that its the best console for you, because I know thats true because of its wide variety of games. I am talking about general stuff.

ok brado, maybe so. But power is only one tiny part of the whole console - game selection is damn important, over all functionality and replay value of the whole console - the thing I believe puts PS2 above the rest - allows the console to specialize in a variety of platforms, while I believe that the Xbox owns the market in shooters, except PS2 has the Gcon, if you want to fork out the $50 for it. Gamecube, as I know you are a tremendous fan, is perhaps a superior console - but the games are still little kid games. Same as n64, this is what's killing the Gamecube - it could well be the superior console, but lacks credibility due to the choice of marketing archetypally Nintendo games, that are a bit cartoony and aimed at the preteen bracket. With this being said, Playstation 2 may lack the power, but it's the most versatile, and is therefore the favourite. PS EDIT: Why the hell aren't you at uni, you loser.

I will accept the fact that PS2 has an unchallenged range of games, it is completely true. However from the games that shoot out of America and Japan hardly any make it big and get rated well. PS2 cannot specialise in anything apart from the huge range of games it has. They may have many platforms of games with heaps of games for each platform however only about one game in each platform is worth buying, thats if it is only available on PS2. If you buy one of those cheap games that shoot out of other countries it is higly likely that it will get seriously boring very quickly. It is a very common experience giving it poor replay value. The functionality of the PS2 is also not to be boasted about: 2 controller ports, highest chance of breakdown, least powerful and I am quite sure that the controller is nothing special. I am not really a tremendous gamecube fan. In fact I think the gamecube has made a large number of mistakes, such as that stupidly small disc which causes gamecube to not be able to have games over 1.5 GB. I am only a die hard multiplayer fan, and it offer the the best multiplayer. Gamecube games are aimed for young ones however it does not mean that they aren't fun as hell. Plus they they have all the EA games and other games from designers which are aimed at the older audience which are available on all consoles and some of those games arent available on computer. My brother was telling me of some new violent Gamecube game called Geist which is MA15+. I know PS2 is winning by far and that they are the favourite, I just can't see why. The only explanation I can see is its excellent brand, wide variety and its early release. PS I couldnt find my damn Business Law book so I missed the train by accident. I really wanted to bring my boots too.

Fair point. I still stand by my PS2, only because I like playing fighting games, and although Xbox and Gamecube are better consoles, PS2 is the ultimate console, with the perfect controller interface for wrestling and fighting games. Although I hear good things about the Wrestlemania series and 'Day of Reckoning' on Gamecube, yet I can't justify buying another platform when there's nothing wrong with the one I've got, and I really like the THQ produced Smackdown series. In reference to the amount of people that can play at any one time, the PS2 does have a mulitlink available, then again it does not come with the console. haha both me and Rod did. I got my Doc Marten 1460's and he has his Colorado hikers.

Yeah I have played SmackDown and stuff on PS2 and they are really good, it is by far the best console for fighting because of Tekken and other ones like. Heaps better than some wrestling games where you ground someone and then when they get up they are to exausted to fight back and then you can just keep doing moves on them while they have no power at all. Gamecube has pretty crap wrestling and fighting games I have to say. You can play 4 player on those smackdowns I think which would be really fun. Damn I wish I didnt miss out on boots club.

Well apart from Counterstrike, FarCry, Stalker, Doom 3, DesertCombat, Full Spectrum Warrior......
I don't play any of these, and yet I play GoldenEye.. I'm not a shooter fan, but I play goldeneye. It's versatile, easy to pick up, and the matches with other ppl are simple in configuration, and suspence filled.

The only games i would play or own: -Granturismo(all in series) -Tekken -GTA3 and Vice Thats why I own a Ps2 and am completely happy with it. It would be hard to say the power of the PS2 matters and then look at Gran Tuismo 4: Prologue. I only know of 2 people who own an xbox. I dont even see games in catalogues I would think about buying. Do you know how many cds i could buy for $100? Im sorry, PS2 is the best for me, im going to shut up now.

Two of the games you mention anyone can easily get on computer. You were probably better off saving the three hundred dollars and buying GTA and GT on computer. Its not that hard to sacrafice one game. I mean everyones got a playstation. Gran Tourismo is better looking on computer than playstation and additionally it may be a fine looking game however it is a modern day console. Compare it too XBox games like Colin Something Rally and other racers and you will see the difference. They are technically the least powerful and therefore its overall graphics wont be as good as XBox or Gamecube. There is no way of wriggling out of it by mentioning games.

Read my previous posts, Power is a statistic, I can show you them if you want but that would be going into too much detail. It is solid fact, it is the most direct indicator on a games graphics and hence playability. You can't say that this game is good graphics just from your opinion. As your opinion isn't a fact now is it. There arent millions of websites on the net saying that the PS2 power level and graphics capability is directly influenced by Rod's opinion now are there. Additionally you have not played Colin Mcrae Rally on XBox, it is heaps better graphics than PS2's games. Not to mention Gamecube games which also have stones to throw on the PS2. If you have played Colin Mcrae on XBox the difference is that there arent as many flat texture panels which only display the graphics on a 2D panel. That is what is common on those GT games on PS2. And by the way the games are not better but more plentiful. All the good games you can get on computer and XBox so there is no point arguing that the games are better on PS2. The games that are rated underneath the standouts are sometimes good, but most of the time they are games you can get on all consoles. By the way I am aware of the irony of this not being fact and therefore my opinion. However this is not biased at all and my words are pretty much those of reviews of consoles. It is the general cognitive realisation of a person not biased towards PS2 or any other console.

You cant just base a good console on power alone though. I mean sure they might have good graphics but that depends on wether the game developers want to put the effort in to make the game use the system to its full potential via more complex graphics engines. Look at one of the first games for 64: Cruisin USA. When comparing this game to any later game on the platform, the graphics sucked. Its the same platform, so why did the graphics suck? Thats why when you read your reviews they have more than one voting criteria, graphics is just one of these criteria.

Yeah, thats a good point I just want to say that a consoles average graphics capability is defined by its technical stats. Often the first games have the worst graphics because the system resources of a console haven't been completely explored and utilized. For example the average graphics of an XBox will be Higher than that of PS2's. Also there was that upgrade thingy on 64 which can counter for some games. However not contrasts like Cruisin USA and Goldeneye.

Some dude said: now I'm afraid i'm going to have to be King to your JR and disagree with you there in a way.. I think in terms of speed and fluidity of the graphics, playstation wins. OMG! Idiot, if you compare two games that were produced at any one time in either consoles 'career' then you'd see the N64 comes out way on top Heres a better comparison: Gex & Banjo Kazooie. Need I say which is better in terms of graphics. Obviously Banjo Kazooie. The playstations maximum frame rate was about 30fps with a low resolution and hardly anything on screen, if you put Banjo Kazooie or perhaps DK64 on a playstation, you'd be playing at about 5 fps. This is a great way to show how inefficient and crap the Playstation was. Unfortunately they gained the upper hand by mass marketing and having a huge library of mostly garbage third party games...

Um that dude was me. Be nice, it's called an opinion. I did my own comparison and in MY OPINION between 'No Mercy' on N64, and "Smackdown 2" for PSX, I believe that the chugginess of N64's effort severly detracted from the GAME. The graphics were smoother, but gameplay was chuggy and predictable because of how slow it was to compensate for being smoother. Read further down, dude. EDIT: This is a poll on the 3rd generation of games, possibly the 2nd for you youngers - PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube - Don't knitpick my post and read it fully before you sling mud in my eyes.

HAhaha sling mud in your eyes, that reminds me, in primary school once i threw dirt in someones face (Lachlan Mcmurdo) to get past them in red rover. It was incredibly cheap but worked like a charm. Back on topic, you guys have to remember that graphics arent everything. I dont think ive ever played a game, simply because it is reputed to have good visuals. It is only one factor. By the way, which consoles are we talking about? Xbox vs Ps2? or N64 vs. Ps1? Im getting confused.

Lachlan deserves it. He wrote the book on "Life Without Ethics: The How-to in Cheating Chumps". In fact it's number 17 on the New York Bestsellers List this week. Yeh I also agree graphics aren't everything. Raw on X Box graphically kicks the Smackdown! series but the interface and gameplay are of the terrible variety. Quett and Brett Newlands sold their X Box with Raw for Smackdown!4 on PS2.
