This isn't going to end well..  😢

It already looks like a lot better job than the roof over the log ride boats. And I doubt the current management will make any of the mistakes the previous management made when it comes to retrofitting on site. I’d suspect the necessary consultants would’ve been engaged before just heading to Bunnings and buying some metal to join together.

Well, there's no whiplash bar so they're already off to a better start than last time.

@themagician I'm thinking of all the rides in the world and wondering, why why does the vintage cars require a roof?   Does the roof obscure your view?   At a guess the roof is to protect people from loose objects coming off JR  but surely there is a better way.

DW can't be doing this because they think it looks good.

Immersive theming.

If they can nail the roof right just like the concept art, with some canvas shading, a spare tyre, Jerry can, shovel, heck even a fake tropical bird… it will really help immerse riders into the ride.

You know they're replica 1911 modal T-Fords and not jeeps?

I thought people were singing from the rafters when DW restored the train station and repainted the facades on main street.  So much work to restore and preserve parts of DW and now I'm ready people want to stick a fake bird on a vintage car.

Whatever your opinion on roofs are I think we can both agree that the end product of the vintage cars show Dreamworld has come a long way with retrofitting roofs on rides.

As for the "they are model t ford's not off road cars" upon a quick google image search of "1920s off road vehicles" i think the cars will look similar enough to what comes up on there. Model t's were also used for off road purposes by the army, so if you think its that, there's a fair bit of historical context that allows it to fit the theme (such as: the explorers purchased some really old vehicles from the army and are taking tours around the jungle in them)

So another one of your great suggestions is Dreamworld forget any add-ons or immersive theming opportunities that families in an theme park would love, and instead just plonk plain looking modal T-Fords into a brand-new jungle themed area?

Maybe I am wrong here, but I would assume the rooves they added to the log ride were a safety addition, not theming like we are seeing on Murrisippi Motors. Worst case scenario they just take the rooves off. We also don't know if the car on track is even the final product, maybe that roof structure is just to test clearances around the track before they bring down the properly themed cars?

Dreamworld restored the train station, but still replaced the original rolling stock and loco with a modern equivalent to suit the requirements of the day.

The funny thing about the model T is that it was the jack of all trades. they were used for everything from town cars to ambulances, freight transport to campervans. Some versions rolled off the factory in a certain fit-out, but others were literally retrofitted by their owners into whatever purpose-built function they were needed for. The best part about the T was that the timber bodies were able to be modified pretty easily in the average workshop using whatever wood was handy.

And spoiler alert, this isn't the first time that Dreamworld Vintage Cars have had a roof on them

I know you know this, but for anyone who may not. When the Vintage Cars first opened (in their original Rivertown location) they didn’t have a roof. I believe in the late 90s (around the time TOT opened) roofs were added to the cars. When the attraction relocated to the back of the park, they still had the roofs, but were removed (in 2019 I believe) when it became ‘Vintage Cars Adventure’ when koalas exhibits were added to the ride.

The current DW bosses are very vocal on de-f#*king this stuff.

According to you the current dreamworld bosses are incapable of running a park they have been employed to run too, but as usual you're only focussed on the narrative that suits.

But given how vocal they are... devil's advocate... perhaps this isn't 'f#*king' it?

Makes no sense this is your defence

Actually it isn't my 'defence', I was just pointing out that the cars have had a roof previously.

My actual 'defence' if that is the phrasing you'd like to go with - is that this is what they've deemed appropriate to suit the attraction theme and style - you know, because they're very vocal on de-f#*king this stuff.

And the fact that model Ts rolled off a factory floor in a certain configuration means nothing to what the owners ingenuity turned them into to serve a purpose or meet a need.

And again *broken record time* You asked why the cars needed a roof. i'm going to wait and see the finished product. My mind immediately went to the effects angle, but the sun-protection angle also makes a lot of sense, and could really be that simple...

Maybe when you goggle you should read more one result, because you know the the model DW copied, didn’t come with a roof?

I’m sure if I also google Caribou planes, DW isn’t using the exact same paint code or wingspan specs or some other configuration they rolled off the production line with…

It’s a theme park with THEMING, not a museum where everything needs to be historically accurate.

Even though I argue that Model T’s CAN have roofs and owners of such CAN bolt stuff onto them to make it look like it’s been off-road through a jungle (some probably did journey through the Amazon back in the early 1900’s).

what you’re forgetting is it’s a THEME park. Nothing has to be accurate, so long as the parents and their kids love it, so if the roof is there so little jimmy doesn’t get sunburnt… GREAT the parents will love it, or if there’s a bird that talks or interacts… Amazing the kids will love it. Or if it’s just some shovels, rope, a spare tyre and Jerry cans, but it makes the whole family feel like they’re about to go through an amazing off-road jungle adventure… PERFECT, the whole family will love it.

And as all data suggests, it’s families that pay the bills for DW. Not enthusiasts or history buffs.

Stop making shit up.  I said WWW needs its own management.  I've said many time, Greg is doing a great job with DW.

We could go back and fourth all day, but I have a plane to catch.  Wishing everybody and their families a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.  Hope the holidays bring everybody plenty of reasons to smile.
