You can now upload your own avatar. Previously, it didn't work right, because of a FTP permission thing, but now, you can upload an avatar. I will implement Avatar galleries shortly, which will basically allow you to choose pre-loaded generic avatars. You can modify your avatar in Profile. This is only available to registered users - just another perk that comes with registering for free.
