Bugger! And the proposal actually seemed like it was a real goer this time (Compared to say African Safari World)...So is this just the death of the Aussie World site proposal, or the death of the whole concept of a Sunshine Coast park? Furthermore, does this mean Adventura Water Park is back in play now?

VRL considers that when compared with other opportunities available, the potential returns do not justify the level of investment
That has me interested though, lets hope they are talking about opportunities here rather than abroad though. Edited by Gazza

Furthermore, does this mean Adventura Water Park is back in play now?
From the Sunshine Coast Daily 24th Oct 2009
Consortium abandons water park plans THE consortium behind the proposed $110 million Adventura Water Park at Caloundra has abandoned the problematic project after five frustrating years. Northern Star THE consortium behind the proposed $110 million Adventura Water Park at Caloundra has abandoned the problematic project after five frustrating years. Consortium spokesman Damien Brown said yesterday that despite planning changes having made it easier to get the project up and running, and Village Roadshow scrapping plans for a rival water park behind Ettamogah Pub at Palmview, he and his partners had decided to sell the 75-hectare site. “We are disappointed not to be able to deliver a water park for the region after five years of blood, sweat and tears,” he said. “While we have been overwhelmed with tremendous public support for what we were proposing to do, our group has decided to let others take up the fight.” Mr Brown said three factors contributed to the group's decision to sell the site, which is directly opposite Corbould Park. While amendments to the South-East Queensland Regional Plan last December meant getting approval for this type of project was now easier, the changes also meant his syndicate would have had to resubmit its material change of use application with Sunshine Coast council, he said. Mr Brown said having Village Roadshow looking “over our shoulder” for so long also contributed greatly to the group's decision to abandon the project. The decision was reached before Village Roadshow announced in September that it had abandoned its plan for a water park at Aussie World. Another factor leading to the project's demise was the global financial crisis, which made it more difficult to get funding for such a project, Mr Brown said. “Given the regional plan support from the state government, the site has enormous potential for someone to either pick up the water park baton and make it a success or explore a number of other uses, including short-term accommodation such as a caravan park, a major entertainment destination or even a Magic Millions sales venue,” he said. The site will be sold via an offers-to-purchase campaign through Jerry O'Reilly at Savills Sunshine Coast. The site was recognised as one of the Coast's best land holdings, Mr O'Reilly said. It was currently zoned rural, with sport and recreation a permissible use, he said. “It's a highly strategic parcel of land and is in a high-exposure traffic corridor.”
